  • Which wood is the Kerfing made out?

Its interessting to see how easy you can bend this wood...? And I want to build now my second guitar. And I don't know which wood I should select for every piece. My Soundboard will be some kind of Spruce, Sides and Back out of cherry (untypical I know :-) ) Fretboard will be ebony. I will use pegs instead of steelmechaniks. But out of which wood are this Kerfing?? Hope you will answer me soon :-)

  • @Schlafanzugmen To be honest, I'm not sure what the kerfing is made of. I believe it to be rosewood and spruce, but that's just a guess. Sorry I couldn't be more specific!

  • I love the album playing in the background and must know what it is!!

  • Who are the guitar players in the soundtrack??

  • my granfather before he passed away was a guitar maker (i regret now not continuing his legacy) and i remember him doing what you r doing in the begining of the video but by hand cutting all thouse small wood parts and gluing them together, but it was worth it, as a guitar player i have never heard any guitar that sounded like his, !

  • dude got skills

  • wow 9:01 looked a bit scary to me:)

  • hey! I live and Portugal and I am trying to make my own guitar :)

Few months ago I went to a Master Class of guitar and I met a old talented guy that makes guitars. I met him because he was borrowing his guitar for us to play and the guitar had the best I EVER heard. Me, my friends and my teachers were like "WTF!?". One big difference I notice was the back of the guitar, it has a oval shape if now what I mean and of course the guitar has got lot of more secrets that I didn't pay much attention.

  • You shouldn't be cutting all the rosewood of for the endpiece. you will loose a bit of structural integrity. Do at as an inlay next time. It's probably going to be allright though :)

  • when you hand plain the rose wood sides, it seems to cut easily. is it because it is a soft wood or is it just razor sharp? because my hand plainer does not cut so easily

  • what tool are were you using to sand, or remove shavings of wood, from the bottom of the guitar body (making the tail)

  • @Cerybros It's commonly referred to as either a 'card scraper' or a 'cabinet scraper'. Basically, a very thin piece of metal with a finely honed burr on the edge.

  • thanks, been watching your videos recently because im going to make an acoustic for my year 12 major work for Industrial Technology :D

  • Great video.I was looking up info about Kerfing. The speed of the video made it an easy to follow process. Will to ever do a video of the spanish style peones.I hope i got the spelling correct. The kerfing with individual pieces to stabilize the top.Thank you for the excellent videos.Great work!

  • @theonnoeht

Doubtful. I'll probably stick with the style of guitar you saw in this video, and it'll probably be awhile until the next one, due to the volume of projects my wife has for me now!
