  • Some people tell u not to bend strings. Do whatever the hell you want dude.

I bet u someone told Yngwie, "hey Yngwie dude, classical music doesn't go with heavy metal beats" and I'm almost sure Yngwie said "fuck off dude!"

I might have heard Di Meola do something similar to what you're doing.

  • podrias decirme donde conseguir el backing track? :)

  • @magentamagica13

  • Hola, estoy aprendiendo guitarra y quisiera preguntarte algo

  • sounds awesome, i wanna learn this scale...well im trying too. i actually self learned it by mistake...just dont know EVERY note on it

No seas gede.

  • hi nice playing... can you please tell me where i can find th backing track.

  • Buena Tecnica!

  • pretty good! like the backing track sounds fun just to mess about with

  • Fuckin Coooooool!!...love this scale, im a metal player im gonna use this more now!!...thanks man!!

  • hey cool solo! and your tone's flawless. where'd u get this backing track from by the way?

  • he man very nice. Did you make this backing track yourself? Can I use it for practice ?

  • very nice on the ear

  • looool.... fucking arabs think that flamenco is their... they are sayin that its..... (falahun minkum) not flamenco which means a farmer from you hhhhhhh

they are so stuiped..looool and this guy is tryin to prove this shit

  • who realy gives a fuck whether its arabic phrygian flamemco etc.......

    sounds cool.

  • He's just playing a phrygian dominant in in B and describing it as sounding "Arabic". He may have sharped the 7th occasionally as in the Byzantine scale. A combination of the two is best - really just a phrygian dominant with a passing flatted 1st thrown in sometimes. Fun stuff

  • @whatulikebra the phrygian-dominant scale is commonly known as the "arabic scale" as well

  • @whatulikebra as well as double harmonic minor

  • @ANiceDog

what is double harmonic minor? would appreciate (spelling) if u told me without stating me as a dumbass or anything :)

  • @pabcq Example : A harmonic double minor is A - B - C - D# - E - F - G# - Back to A , u could try also same notes Starting With E to E . Gives u What most of people call Arabian scale , wish this would help

  • @Moonbox1119

so its a harmonic minor with a raised 4th. thanks that helped alot :)

  • @pabcq i use B phrygian and it sounds pretty cool

  • My point with the first comment was, to quote you first.

"this is not a true arabic scale. for a true arabic scale on a guitar it needs to be fretless.

    but good nonetheless :) "

Any scale that comes from an Arabic country is a true Arabic scale. But imo it's not where the guy who came up with the scale where when he came up with it that matters, as long as it sounds Arabic. Classical or pop.

  • this is not a true arabic scale. for a true arabic scale on a guitar it needs to be fretless.

    but good nonetheless :)

  • @glorplaxy If you can't play Arabic music on this guitar. Then you can't play western music either on a 12-tet because it comes from China? And you can't play Russian folk music on a synth, because they didn't have synths back then.

  • You are absolutely clueless.

You can't play true classical Arabic music on a guitar because the guitar is fretted to a chromatic scale. The scale used in classical Arabic music cannot be played on a chromatic scale because it uses microtones, which a fretted guitar is incapable of playing.

Hence, why I said you'd need a fretless guitar to play this. If the guitar was fretless, you could play the microtones required of true Arabic music.

    Understand?

  • You can still play diatonic scales within a chromatic scale.

You can play classical Arabic scales without using microtones.

You can play microtones on a fretted guitar.

    You are truly retarded sir.

  • -Arabic music does not use diatonic scale. It does not use fixed intervals like Western music.

-No, you cannot. It's not truly classical Arabic music if it is without microtones. Arabic music's sound is heavily dependent upon quarter tones

-No, you cannot play microtones on a guitar unless you bend the note, in which case you would be starting with a chromatic note and it would ruin a classical Arabic maqam

-I think it's you who is truly retarded

  • -Yes it can do, Arabic music can use fixed intervals such as a 19- or 24-tet.

-I never said that semitones is the most optimal for oriental music, however you can play octaves, powerchords, Zamzama chords, etc which can be used in both cases.

-You can adjust the intonation, refrett or just tune one of the strings a quarter-tone lower/higher on a guitar.

    -Good day.

  • -No. Perhaps you are referring to folk or pop music but classical Arabic makam cannot used fixed intervals.

-Semitones IS the most optimal for Arabic maqam. Arabic maqam by defintion MUST include semitones.

-REFRET. Yes, if you go through the entire process of refretting the strings, yes you can play semitones, but if you tune the entire string down or up a quarter, then all of the other frets will be out of tune. Arabic music requires full tones AND semitones, including quarter tones and 1/2ton

  • @skruvmaejsel You need to look up "Arabian Maqam" on wikipedia because you have no idea what you are talking about and it will educate you.

Chords are NEVER used in Arabic maqam. EVER. Arabic music is MONOPHONIC, meaning chords are NOT USED. Powerchords, zamzama chords....what a retard you are.

  • I must clear things up for you.

    From wikipedia:

"In most cases a jins is made up of 4 consecutive notes (a tetraCHORD), although ajnas of 3 consecutive notes (a triCHORD) or a 5 consecutive notes (a pentaCHORD) also exist."

"...These are constructed from major, medium, and minor seconds (SEE THE ARAB TONE SYSTEM)."

Don't trhow rocks in your own glass house.

    You say:

-Arabic (not specefic maquam) music is not played by a chromatic scale

    -

  • @skruvmaejsel jins is not made up of chords like a guitar, it is only considered chords because the notes match together in a harmonic way, .they are not played at the same time. they CANNOT be played at teh same time like on a fretted guitar because the OUD does NOT HAVE FRETS.

jins is not true harmonic chord like guitar. arabic music is MONOPHONIC, not POLYPHONIC

  • Clearing things up for your little head.

    You say:

-Arabic (not specefic maquam) music is not played by a chromatic scale.

-Arabic (not specefic maquam) music is not played by a diatonic scale.

-Semitones is the key of arabic music.

-Semitones is NOT the key of arabic music, Microtones are.

    I say:

-You don't have to use microtones in arabic scales. Just like you don't have to play semitones in western music.

  • @skruvmaejsel If you don't play the microtones in arabic scales, then it's not a true arabic scale! You don't have to play semitones in Western music because western music is not based on formulas like makam! Do you know what makam is? It is a set pattern of notes with which you must use to improvise or create a suite. You MUST use the notes prescribed by a makam in order to play true classical arabic music. it's not hard to understand. If you use a chromatic scale like a guitar, it is not arab

  • Diminished scales are the key to learning this :]

  • Great song

  • where did you get that track?? GREAT

  • didnt offspring do this as a hidden track?. no,. not quite this ,.. but damn close

  • this is not arabic

if you want to hear something arabic

Copy and paste this on Youtube search bar:

    نصير شمة عود

  • wow,can you share the backing track?

  • whats the name of that escale? ( formally )

    thank you

  • @jackson0027

to me it sounds like a whole/half scale all the way.. something like harmonic minor with a tritone...?

  • suena la raja ;D

  • sounds more of a westernised version of arabic music . But good playing mate !

  • Como hace para que suene asi :D

    Coool!

  • very nice, interesting. reminds me of seventies flamenco influences... by the way, where did you get that flamenco backing track? I would neem something similar too.

  • Geniaaaal!!! Fantáaaaastico! :)

  • It would be cool if you could do something on the bottom 3 strings.

But some of it was rather boring huh?

  • awesome! you havethe Marty friedman kinda vibe going.nice Jackson too

  • I've started learning some flamenco too and tried to blend this in with some arabic sounding improvisation. They complement each other so well. I'll have to look up the P2P backing tracks as you mentioned earlier, or we could just make our own.

I love to know any tips you have on making it sound more arabic and exotic

  • The arabic scale being used here is the hijaz scale (one of the few that sound arabic enough but are playable on a guitar). It's basically phrygian with a raised third note.

It's also a very common scale in Turkey, Greece, and eastern europe. You can even find it in indian music. And yes, this scale is also very often used in flamenco where it is blended with normal phrygian. The only thing which differs is the spirit behind the playing.

  • That was legendary! I'd give you ten stars!

  • excelente... 5 starts¡¡¡

  • this is not the arabic scale. Its actually the phyrigian scale.

Created as one of the many medieval modes and an alternative to major and minor scales.

  • @Trivialnights yes.. definitely a phrygian scale.. and i haven't heard anything about arabic scale in a flamenco arrangement, something new? hmmm.. but i guess he's trying really hard to NOT to blend with the flamenco with doing "arabic" scale, but then again, he's still in blend with flamenco, no arabic or heptatonic phrygian whatsoever.

    :D

  • @UnforgivingCritic

aaw dude you have to hear the Gypsy Hungarian minor scale.

You wanna hear it preferably on guitar and violin. I tried looking for videos on youtube of people playing it but I couldn't find any good ones.

The only one I could find is an old folk russian song that uses the Gypsy Hungarian Minor Scale.

    Youtube search: Dark Eyes

  • @Trivialnights woah, thanks!

  • @UnforgivingCritic wicked music scale, ain't it? :]

  • Nice solo..

  • That was awesome!!!

  • Great. Where you get the backing track? Anyone

  • @litonm

there are backing tracks for spanish guitar at worldmusictracks . com

  • anybody know where I can find cool flamenco and arabic backing tracks?

  • @Shadow456376

yes i do! worldmusictracks . com

  • it sounds like a harmonic minor. i love that eastern sound.

  • great combination I wish i can play like that

  • isnt that the phrygian dominant scale?

  • Yeah which is not an exotic scale or anything close to actual arabic music. Western scales are not exotic.

  • wait, so which one is he using? phrygian dominant or arabic?

  • Phrygian dominant. The chord progression screams it.

  • oh, i thought so. i guess he mustve confused it with the actual arabic scale cause it kind of has that exotic feel to it, although its not an really "exotic" scale as you say

  • Probably, a lot of people do. It has a "hollywood" arabian sound, but if you listen to actual arabian music it sounds nothing like this at all.

  • Western scales are Major based

  • No kidding. What was the point of your comment? You going to try and tell me a mode of harmonic minor is not western based? A scale that is not even used in eastern music.....

  • No just giving you some much needed advice as I am a pro , just spreading my knowledge to you mere mortal beings and especially you as I have a soft spot for your mum..I shred faster than Satan and she loves it - she has convulsions when I play arabic scales for her too. Pussy spasms are the best tho..That only happens when I play the blues scale mixed in wit some pentatonic licks..Good times..

  • That would have been funny, if you weren't from the UK, and didn't have a Jeff Dunham video on your favorites.

  • The moment someone says "I am pro" it translates to "I'm worse then a retarded monkey at it".

    Fact.

  • Ill give you a fact - its called humour lmao ya know that thing called humour..You sound like the retard no offence..

  • Sorry, humour is lost on me when it's not funny enough to laugh at. :)

  • this video is perfect. this is exactly how i want to sound when i play guitar
