This is certainly a fantastic song, but as far as Christmas spirit is concerned, "Christmas Time is Here" by Steve Vai captures the Christmas feeling better
Satriani kind of did get carried away with this tune. No doubt he does some serious guitar licks, but I think it's a wee bit too much for Silent Night. Joe's so damn good on the ax he forgot it was Silent Night. Go Joe!!! You're still the best!!!
I'm a HUGE fan of Joe, but I gotta say, I kinda hate his version of this song. Great playing, great tone, but five minutes of lydian mode jamming with a "silent night" intro/outro does not a christmas song make.
Somewhat predictably, I think Setzer really kicked everyone else's ass on this CD. But then, I guess that when it comes to the bizarre "Christmas guitar rock" genre, he's kinda got an unfair "experience" advantage on anybody else(!)
You are all privileged to have Joe in our time. After he is gone, he will still be seen as a revolutionary just as Jimi Hendrix is now. Hail the KING............
@SirGougeAlot Born in 1991, I sometimes wonder if I really shouldn't have been in the 50s or so. I would've loved to have seen the King (ya know, Elvis) perform live (and other musicians that were popular back in the days), but with all this technology I have access to great old music and some less popular new musicians so easily. Satriani truly is a King of instrumental (rock) music. It baffles me he hasn't been called the King before.
This song (Silent night/Holy night Jam) is on the album Merry Axemas: A Guitar Christmas. Other artist's performing on the album, besides Joe Satriani, is Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Joe Perry, Brian Setzer, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Steve Morse, Alex Lifeson, Richie Sambora, Hotei and Jeff Beck, all playing classical Christmas songs! It was released in 1997, and reissued 2005!
I listened to this 4 years ago in a guitar shop around xmas time. and even now, I still hold this song and it's sound very close to my heart. Go Satriani!
"Rare and Unreleased" I found my copy on eBay. There are 21 soungs on this album/ CD
Many fun covers with Joe's spin and some original. He covers Hendrix and Somewhere over the rainbow and the Top Gun theme and Little wing and the flintstones theme even! A must get for the True Satriani fan!
wooow that is so beautiful. did you notice when you sat there, you kinda felt like you were there watching him, getting mesmerize. What made me LOL was sitting there getting mesmerized and then the last bit he goes back finishing silent night. you kinda forget what the name of the song is! oh well thats me any way. Primo
Just amazing-one of the best You Tube postings as I've never heard this before.Does anyone know how you can go about getting it?Did it come with a guitar magazine or was it posted over his website-whatever,thank you audreybabydoll.
