The USA messed up with Guatemalan rights and politics, not because they wanted to helpe but because of the same reasons they go and invade small countries:becase they have an interest!!!
I´m from Guatemala, and Mr. Arbenz was a comunist!! he was determined to destroy the private property by the "Reforma Agraria" a law which the goverment determined wich land wasn´t used by the rightfull owners, and expropiated, then the guerrilla began when mr. castro from cuba, financed this terrorist groups, because Guatemala colaborated with the anti castro invasion, funded by the CIA. the tragic history of my country is because a matter of revange fo mr. Castro.
Arbenz was elected by Guatamalans, just as hard line Socialists were elected in Chile as well, whether the land was rightfully the land owners was decided by voters there fore democratically they seesed to own it.
The war described here was to protect land owners from landless. The war was sold as defense against communism but in reality was about protecting the right of some few of us to charge the rest of us for access to our own planet. The reason the US lost this war is because the human need for access to land is not about communism but about the simple life urge to survive. The US was/is on the wrong side of life: like trying to stop weeds from growing up through concrete. Time to share the earth.
You people make me absolutely sick to my stomach. Freedom comes at a high price and it is not always fair. Either live freely and let us deal with the "dirty work" or move to another country and see how you like it. Even though I think most of you are idiots I will still go and die for your freedom!
Strong words from the ideologically indoctrinated marine. Ever think that you might actually be on the wrong side? Or does the corps let you think for yourself? Even the Nazis thought that God was on their side.
Where the hell does this brit commentator get off pronouncing our heroe's -GUATEMALA!- first name wrong? He pronounces the "J", and following vowel, as if it were English.
Antes de tener el derecho de pronunciar el sagrado nombre de Jacobo Arbenz, aprende a pronunciarlo malvado ingles!
VIVA ARBENZ! VIVA GUATE!
You fail to mention, oh brit, that the Guatemalan revolution lives on.
For sure, Arbenz was not a communist. But he failed to detect the United Fruit real intentions and make some deal with them. His nerves also failed when dealing with the invasion, (a little more organisation and it could be a second Pigs Bay or Playa Giron) and a disaster for further CIA operations in the region..
The mistake from El Che was his violent message: HE WANTED 10O0 VIETNAMS...
Do you want 1000 Iraks or 1000 Afganisthans today?
I have an opinion about Arbenz (a good one, indeed). But I'm seeing about the future (tears are for consolation). A peaceful one.
I understood what El Che wanted to say. To export the revolution. But to transform Latin America in a guerilla barrack is no solution. The solution is to invest in education and health. About USA, is a country that needs changes, to be lead by more intelligent and better people.

As does Arbenz, as does El Che.
We will never forget, nor shall we forgive.

How dare you say that Arbenz failed in any way whatsoever?
Who are you?
What is your connection with Guatemala?
Only having Guatemalan blood running through your veins allows you the honor of having an opinion about Arbenz.
Otherwise, you are in dark terroritory kid, and damn not welcome.
And do I want 1000 vietnams?
If it means the end, painful..oh so very painful, hopefully...of the united states, then yes. HELL YES!
And it doesn't surprise me that you missed El Che's meaning.

Invalid point. Soviets didn't fund the civil war in Guatemala.

Great video. The U.S. has so much blood on its hands. It is disgusting.

And so did also the Soviet Regime, KGB, Stasi, and their supporters. They also had also training fields of guerrilla warfare, didn't they?

Is anyone denying that? Does that justify the atrocities strongly supported by the US?
