Gm has a piss pore track record for reliability so i would run not walk RUN FROM THIS CAR!!!! wait and see if it will hold up in the long term...my last to GMs where good when new but they did not hold up in the long term.....problems...problems...PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!! This is why there resale value sucks!!!
@z24supercharged dude. the cobalt and cavalier failed for a reason. they had no build quality and offered literally nothing competitive to honda or toyota other than a little sport, cobalt SS being the only one worth mentioning at all. this car competes with the best compacts and arguably beats them in every aspect. build-quality and features being the most important and what it excels in. plus there's obviously room to add a twin turbo and cold air intake, which is what i'm doing. great car
The 2011 Jetta may be better but the drawback is that the crappy 5cyl gasoline engine gets poor fuel economy. Maybe if they stuck with the 4 cyl it would have been better. European economy 4 cyl gas engines always suck for mileage and they have no power. They should just stick to diesel. The new Jetta doesn't even have a 4cyl turbo option.
@hoddie100, Emissions Control Optimisation TEChnology (ECOTEC). they are also the succesors of the GM Quad 4 [later called the Twin Cam in '95]. The Cobalts had the Family II ECOTECS, I believe these are the Family I ECOTECS in the Cruze.
@Anton4223, yes, more standard safety features & features in general than Civic or Corolla. Also has 5yr/ 100K warranty on the powertrian. From what I was tols, starting in the GM 2011 model year at the time of new car purchase depending on what you are willing to pay you can extend you bumper to bumper warranty to 5yr/ 100K also. In the past you could only extend it to 5yr/ 75K. As far as pricing goes it is a good bang for your buck. To know more ask you salesman @ you local GM dealer.
@suburbanator91 thank you for the info, im very interested in a chevrolet, haha, my current choices are a used BMW 3 series, a new Chevrolet Cruze, and a used infiniti g35 coupe, im going to look into this a bit more, and test drive it. thank you (:
2011 vw jetta is way better has standerd power windows and mirrors and cost less then the cruz who would buy american when they could have german for less even if
it is built in mexico im shure the cruz is to gm still sucks and they riped off honda and mazda and the cruz is really a korean car so it blows so pay more and get a pussy korean car or pay less and get a german car your choice
@mitchaeldean: Why? Because German is not always better. The Jetta might be cheaper, but there are cars out there that are slightly better thats in the same price range. The chevy Malibu happens to be one of them. Its more fuel efficient with the same hp and has a better interior. You cant argue the Jetta's price though, you get what you pay for.
@01imprezawrx, yes, there is a 6 speed manual, but they have manual mode on the 6 spd automatics; you can get the control of a manual trannt w/o the BS you gt w/ a manual. The manual is not even for sale yet. In answer to yuor other question, there is no SS oe atl least not yet, but there is an RS package.
@01imprezawrx Yes there is a manual. It's a 6 speed and is only available on the base model LS, which has the 1.8L N/A 138 HP I4, NOT the 138 HP 1.4L Turbo, which isn't available with the manual or on the base model.
GM is focusing on economy out of these cars, so I highly doubt an SS variant is on the way. IF one does show up though, It would no sooner than the 2012 or 2013 model year.
ha! u took my name, i was going to be suburbanator91 but it said, sorry username has been taken. anyways nice review, i really like that car, gm does the best on cars, trucks, and suv's.
@c0uchsl0uch, sure is and good riddence. I bought my Cobalt new and did nothing but reair it. Granted, the Cobalt was better than that P.O.S Cavalier, but this Cruze is a far better bang for your buck. The sales man told me to not even think about comparing it to the Cobalt; even the salesman agrees that the Cobalt was just another piece of shit. The Cruze will also do a better job holding its resale value.
This is one area were size doesn't matter. Less cubes with a turbo gets you better fuel efficiency. Plus same power as the Cobalt it replaces. Just blame the government for smaller engines...
@ibanez720rg, true, but still, it is awsome how 138 HP can be achieved out of just a 1.4 liter engine. It actaually has a little less power, but then again, it can make that power at a much lower RPM. Finally factor in that that power band is divided by 6 speeds instead of just 4 or 5. So in the end the acceleration is just as good.
I'd rather have the golf cart thats next to this piece of shit. Government Motors sucks.
