its easier to drill wholes into the side and use a puller with a screw tip that you enter as if it were a regular screw and when done use some auto filler.
The reason you are using a hammer is to release the tension from the hardened areas as you remove the dent. Body filler mixing, applying sanding no masks, priming without a respirator and this is a college.. Dissapointed
Speaker at 2:10 ...so anytime theres a dent it usually...it usually goes in and comes out someplace else. Sooooo what youre saying is.....if you have a dent in the left rear door and you pull it out.....it usually makes a dent in the right rear door? LOL
Im ICAR GOLD , I don't see that being used here ! Use 40 to take paint away not a grinder , you bunch of butchers , LOL he's using a board file for such a small spot lol, This is a video of what not to do !
@cacope1 Its only a base coat bud ! and ya when in a booth it will be blown off again and tacked before a clear coat , especially with today's water based paints that have to be blow dried . I'm not a painter but I am a licensed 20 collision repairer , This is first yr stuff .
@MarryDoYouWanna my point being if you blow air on anything being paint or clear, the solvants will be taken out of them too quickly on the top and could create problems by making a "crust".. and with waterbase its all about the volume of air being blown over it
haha i was about to rip this video apart, then read all of the other comments and they pretty much said what i was thinking... i just have to laugh at :22 when the kid is eating the panel with an 8 inch grinder it looks like with 24 grit at a 45 degree angle haha! ouch
OH my where to start?? this MUST BE a very old video!! metel on new cars is way to thin to be grinding with a 24 grit like they show here. there should be very few if any sparks at all un;ess your cutting or gringing on the frame it's self, they were pulling way too hard on those nails and too far apart make them closer and a little tap here and go to the next one and next then go back to the start do it again.
2 you dont sand body filler in a back and fourth X patternand the sanding board was used on its edge you can use a DA to do body work but it only gets it smooth and does anybody use red oxide primer anymore im only 4 years into this trade and i know most of this shit on this video is wrong
I was really sad when I look at this crap, no protections??? This is very dangerus stuff they working with. Im been a carpainter in 20 years, even back then we got better protection. :P
this is not even close to bodywork. they mention icar. icar does not promote this video. the repair procedure is all in correct. how this is allowed is beyond me. its all wrong. i would be ashamed if i was to do this on a video
explain yourself please. what was so wrong about what they did I have seen body work done in professional shops done so many different ways what part about the video that you did not agree with? I know the kids looked like novises
but using the stud welder looked right and hammering the surrounding metal to relieve the pressure looked right. Maybee you are talking about the way they did not remove the door handle.
henderson is right you do not sand body filler with a orbital sander....your dont even use a orbital sander at all in body work...a dual action random orbital sander is what you use...you dont ever under any circumstances spray anything without at least a dual cartridge charcol respirator...icar would have nothing to do with this video im not sure how they can even mention icar in this
are we watching the same vid here? He was using a dual action sander, the speaker even mentions it and explains what it does. And you can see clearly the boy is wearing a dual cartridge respirator.
well... i wouldnt try to get filler stright with an orbital sander but if you get a bad spread with body filler you can use one or a "mud hog" with 36 or preferable 80 grit to shape it a bit...
hey if those 2 bitches wanna work for me on hiring I got body shop and I'm ready to go

That is a good example of how it was done 15 years ago. It's no wonder there is a shortage of quality technicians.

maybe he's talking about the old school way where you drill out the holes. it looks legit to me. i dont know any body shop that doesnt do it that way
