omg look at how shitty the defense was holly fuck the defeseman at 7 seconds went to another redwing with out the puck while he was covering stevie who had the puck and decided to let him walk to the net good god
I think he was pretty lucky more than skillful on this goal. If you look at 0:14 you see that the 2 Hawks kinda ease off on him and he takes the opening. And all of a sudden, he has plenty of room to move.
I'm a die-hard Hawk fan and that is one of my favorite goals to watch time and time again. I had the VHS tape this was taken from. I also remember him torching the Hawks many a night.
No doubt that that was a very good play by Stevie Y practically ALL ON HIS OWN...
But, that surely was also one of the worst playing of team-defence in relatively recent NHL history by the entire Blackhawks' squad who were on the ice at this point on this entire play.
I guess those 2 defenders who were on him were very much expecting a pass from Stevie Y to his team's defenceman just behind him by the blueline... But, that was the worst ever coordination between those two 'hawk defenders.
@nikebauer1993 ovechkins goal was cool but a little lucky and the goalie wasn't expecting it after he seen him fall.but the goalie seen steve coming for 2 minutes..lol and still could do anything.
What was the idiot Hawk player doing (can't see the number) when they bailed on him and focused on a pointman to let Yzerman waltz right in? My god, great goal but what a horrible defensive lapse. Like Doug Houda was going to do something, hahaha.
@GHound420 You kidding me? Just because he had his glory days in his 90's and early 2000's doesn't mean he would be any worse. He is one of the best players to ever take the ice.
@packers256 you may not realise it but the competitive level has blown up in the NHL, he would keep up but he would get owned I guarantee it. How do you think Gretzky sniped so many ginos? The goalies didn't know wtf they were doing.
Just because the league has gotten better doesn't diminsh how great Stevie and other greats from his era were. They'd still be among the very best. They just wouldn't put up such gaudy offensive stats that are basically untouchable in this era.
Guys like Ovie, Stamkos, and Crosby are great but their offense isn't any better than players from Steve's generation. The defense/goaltending has gotten better which is why the latter three have no chance of putting up those numbers.
AWESOME!!! what a goal!!!!

Rule #1-Don't leave the centre of your zone a wide open lane when the other teams star centre has the puck.
Awesome goal, completely faked them out.
