  • does it take time lapse photos?

  • hi . whats the best settings for shooting lightning ? you can PM me , thanks alot !

  • sweet, i'm thinking of getting this. you guys think it's a good start off camera? i'v been wanting to get an slr, but don't have to much money (i'd have to save up) any ideas anyone?

    :)

  • @dholland21

Yes, I got this one and is a good camera. I like it better than Canon or Nikon as it has better colors and the lens are sharper, you get very good pictures with this.

Plus you have CF support, which is the best card, pixel mapping, best dust cleaning system and a very complex menu that will help you get into photography on the long run. All this without braking the bank.

  • can someone please tell me if this records hd video, or video in general?

  • @fbspin no :)

  • I love this camera, just because of the 420.

  • Do you reckon more megapixels makes a significant difference? My current camera has 10.2 whereas this is 10.0

  • Hi im 13 and ive got my grand dads old pentax k1000 but since the cost of film and to get them printed out is getting quite exspensive i want a dslr my uncle has a sony alpha 330 and i love it im asking my mum for one on my 14th birthday what should i get the maxium price i would say is £300 but i will still need lenses. Thanks.

  • Great review Gordon! I cant support you since I live outside the range of your sponsor shops, but you really are the best camera reviewer in YouTube.

  • Love the Shutter SOund :D

  • hey, Gordon. I'm just getting into photograph, a little street and some nature photography. would this camera be okay at this even though it has no image stabilization?

  • Hello Gordon I love your videos very much. I will like to ask you which SLR camera would you recomend me if you are a beginner in this field i love photography very much and my budget is between 400-to-600 Dollars thank you in advance

  • @luisramonmanzano Check the best buys section at cameralabs . com.

  • Good day to advertise - makes the stoners go out and buy an Olympus 420

  • My next camera!

  • Hi Gordon, Wich card de you reccomend for this camera?, XD m+ or Compact Flash, i havent find any info about wich one its better.

    Thx in advice.

  • @chino011189 CF - xD always seems slow in comparison.

  • @cameralabs Thank you, im recently bought a DSLR (first one) and your tutorials are great, i live in méxico so i cant help you buying accesories in your page, but im spreading the word for those who can do it in the borderline.

  • Great little camera. Just picked one up from Wally mart online with 14-42 kit lens for $350 bucks.

  • How does the E-420 shoot action shots, like skateboarders or motocross riders

  • please dont kill me for asking this, but

can i put a nikkor lense on an olympus body?

  • maybe with a adapter, but most likely no

  • no i don't think so, they normally never make any different labels comparative.

  • if the mount is the same

  • does anybody know how to remove (yes, remove!) the annoying strap lugs from the camera body? Can i unscrew them??

  • you could rip and or hammer them off =D

  • I was hoping for a less radical solution...

  • hi gordon, would you say that having no image stabilization is much of a compromise?

  • Only you can answer that! If you shake a lot or take photos under low light without a tripod a lot, then yes, I'd say it is a limitation.

  • hi gordon if i buy this camera can i make Movie capture with sound??

  • No, none of the Olympus DSLRs offer video yet. If they did, I'd have mentioned it in the video here!

  • i'm confused..so there is no vibration reduction at all ?? does the lens that comes with this in a kit have it built in ?

  • No, the body doesn't have it, and the supplied lens doesn't have it. If you want it, you'll need to buy a different lens with stabilisation. Or more sensibly, buy newer the E-620 which has it built-in.

  • Hello Gordon,

at 5:36 ywhen you zoom in to 10X to focus, is it possible to take a photo at 10X, or is that just for the focusing. Thankyou,

    -Sam

  • No, it's just for a focusing check, but you'd get the same result if you took the photo and just cropped it heavily.

  • ah, okay. Thanks for your help Gordon!, appreciated.

  • haha, I love how he points out the functionality of the blue labeling for people who are color-blind...colorblind photographer?? sounds like an oxymoron...sweet camera tho!

  • what is the lowest shutter speed for this camera ? plz

  • 60sec (and bulb mode, upto 8min)

  • OMG IMMAH BUY ONE!

  • I bought the E-420 SE with 17,5-45mm lense, just today.

As it comes without memory card, I decided to get the SanDisk Compact Flash Card Extreme III with 8GB.

Only thing I'm missing is the Lens Hood LH-61C.

Anyway, for me it's the most beautiful DSLR camera on the market at the moment ... because it's the only one which has a sleek grip for the right hand !

  • thank you learnt a little bit more bout my camera...great review was like a mini tutorial cheers

  • nice review

  • thank u so much u really helped me

  • thats a lot of information to take in!!!

  • Will do... Thanks Gordie

  • Nice review. So what should be my first SLR, Olympus E-420, Sony A200 or Canon 400D? Help!!

  • Check out the verdict pages for each of those reviews at cameralabs . com!

  • Pro review. Thanks!

  • Hi Gordon,

Is the E420 better built than the E410? (Superior plastics etc..) I ask because I saw you gave it 18/20 as Build Quality score while only 16/20 for the E410.

The CF/xD card door on my E410 is getting a little loose after 1 month's use..

    Thanks in advance!

    Tony

  • Hi Tony, the body is identical to the E-410 apart from s slight change in the grip. The score was different becuase the E-420 is compared to 2008 budget DSLRs.

  • Hi Gordon. At cameralabs i saw, that one of the CONS for E-420 was that E-520 will be more tempting alternative because of in-body IS. Maybe you know something about E-520 sensor? The dimensions are not the same as E-420 sensor's. They are the same as E-3 sensor's. If it is so, then E-520 will be really more tempting alternative :)

  • I've been told the E-520 has the same sensor as the E-420, but until I get hold of one to review, I can't say for sure!

  • It's obvious that Mr. Gordon is the best camera reviewer on the web. Good job! Keep up the good work!

  • Excellent review. Thanks.

  • Hey,

Do you have a PC permanently opened up to demonstrate Live View? lol

  • Ha ha! Nah, these are older hard disk or motherboards that I use in the demos...

  • Good review Gordon,

    Keep them coming!

    Regards,

    Jack

  • ThX Gordon ,it's long waiting and It's worth to wait .

    Thanks again !.

  • solid review, like normal.

  • Yay 1st comment. Great review as always!
