  • we started out as bacteria??? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha what a loser.

  • If it hadn't been for Cotton Eye Joe...

  • Wow. This is magnificent. I wish I were taught these things when I was a child.

  • Evolution can't answer why, only what. Even if we scientifically understand every split second in the history of evolution, it still ignores the greater question of why gravity exists, why the laws of natural selection worked, why every moment of the 14 billion years before humanity perfectly led to a species that can contemplate the past and future, or truth and lies, or joy and suffering. Science will never find or replace God, only show us how awesome sheer human/universal existence is.

  • Richard Dawkins ftw!

  • A little trivia for you, .. did you know Richard Dawkins wife Lallia Ward used to be Doctor Who's assistant in the late 70's TV show.

  • If science has the answer to everything we need, then why hasn't it solved all the problems in the world? When in fact we are draining the planets resources to fund our frankenstien creature comforts....We are 100% dependant on scieence to get us out of the mess it's got us into.

  • @TheJohnskinner

Science is a constantly expanding body of knowledge. What people choose to do with that knowledge is at times is unfortunate. At other times it's fantastic.

So do we just cross our fingers and hope current and future leaders will use it for the best interests of the planet in general so we can survive long enough to inhabit other worlds before the Earth is used up? I don't know... I'm not sure I know what else to do :X

  • all of us have been the animals of the past. ppl that believe in evolution act as if they arent a part of the process... we all spent almost a billion years living and dying in animal bodies. its the only thing that can be true. we have evolved to this point in history where we can know the real truth. we are smart enough now, so get past the fear and wake up to reality people. when dinosaurs went extinct, we went extinct as dinosaurs. do you get it? think about it

  • Our public schools must be cesspools of mediocrity when it comes to science teachers, if there are still THIS MANY people who don't understand even the most rudimentary fundamentals of evolution or geologic time.

I'm not talking about belief, one way or the other. Just a simple understanding of what we're talking about.

  • He is preaching his god,Evolution with zeal of the first Apostles but I need one proof that it exists:explanation of life-cycle a butterfly.A caterpillar - a butterfly -2 completely different creatures in one life-cycle.And what was first?

  • @679861 Maybe you're right. Maybe the best explanation of life cycles is not that which has been studied and detailed ad nauseum by biologists all over the world. Maybe the best explanation is supernatural magic.

    (facepalm)

Just because YOU don't understand something, doesn't mean it's NOT ABLE to be understood, and thus the realm of superstition.

"One proof", you ask? Things are different now, compared to the past. Things have changed. Things have "evolved". Do you not understand the word?

  • The theoretical understanding of the world, which is the aim of philosophy, is not a matter of great practical importance to animals, or to savages, or even to most civilised men.

    Bertrand Russell

  • Maybe it was bacteria and nothing alse! Bacteria is the creater of all things! And now bacteria is trying to wipe us out! Bacteria is our god!!! Maybe???

  • @Jestery1974

I ask those same questions Jestery...

If it were bacteria then where do you think the bacteria came from? :(

  • @Xchrstian4Agnostism Even bacteria are still incredibly complex things. There were a great many changes that had to occur before them. Proto-cells, ribonucleic micelles, etc. Evolution is a satisfactory explanation all the way down to the realm of rudimentary molecular chemistry. From there, you abandon the study of evolution and take on the question of chemical abiogenesis vs supernatural creation. I suspect from your username, that is where you are now. :-)

  • Well, what I don't get is if evolution made an impact to who who we are today, why just us why has all other living creatures stayed to what they are?? The big bang theory makes alot of sense to me but yet again before it happened what existed before it happened? Was it just space, darkness? Nothing could live this way surely! So WTF existed before our galaxies came to light?????

  • @Jestery1974 asked "what I don't get is if evolution made an impact to who we are today, why just us? Why has all other living creatures stayed to what they are?"

You have an incorrect understanding of evolution. EVERYTHING that lives and reproduces genetically is subject to evolution. It happens incrementally with every single replication, but often at very different rates. Sometimes in great surges of change, sometimes not at all for ages.

Also, evolution has NOTHING to do with creation.

  • it is not up for debate anymore, if you denie evolution and have seen the evidence, you ARE a complete fool

  • today i'm visiting pupils..."

    what a fag.

    lol jk

  • 4000,000,000 years! No fucking way can anyone be certain of that time scale. Richard Dawkins is a toffee nosed cunt and very very far from the real facts!

Here he is, feeding these kids utter bullshit which can't be proved. This sounds crazy compared to god, and that is also bollocks too. Bacteria my arse!

  • the only problem with evolution is that people dissociate themselves from the process. were all of our consciousness created just for this one life as human? logic doesnt agree with that. you cannot be aware of being dead so logic should tell you that you evolved as life evolved. you didnt just start out at the top of the food chain. you clawed your way to the top. it's all self evident if you're the least bit open minded

  • Yeah ok,bacteria Bullshit!!!!!!!

  • @5tonyvvvv so you believe someone was like Alakazam and made people out of nothing now thats complete bullshit or how do you think we came to be

  • "I didn't actually realize that my relatives were bacteria."

    There's consciousness-raising for you!

  • nice idea for new generation.... thanks!

  • "I didn't actually realize that my relatives were bacteria"

I really like the way this kid says that line!

It is really bizarre (not that that's a bad thing) to really comprehend that we evolved out of some sort of 'primordial soup'. But I can't believe that Dawkins failed to mention that Scaroth assisted in out evolution!

  • oh and is this a theory and then so you adapt the best theory , the one that makes most sense to your reasoning , i can sorta understand that butt then there are so many gaps in this theory also so look at the concepts and yes they draw pretty pictures to make it look as if they have all the evidence when in fact they fall way short

  • this is pure nonsense a direct attack on a creation view instead of using a proper formatt it uses a direct attack of the christain veiw , very distasteful

butt then you wouldnt know about the meaning of life unless the glorious light of the gospel should shine on you

  • @PUSHUP2YA ur on crack lol gospels are fairytales and if trying to use them to explain the meaning of life then ur delusional lol

  • google Doe's Account

  • i think all ppl who believe in evolution butt rapes monkeys, we were put her on earth like a science project. our eyes see light particals which make us seem like a computer game. maybe thats why we love technology .

  • does this mean we are going to evolve into something even bigger.every millenium we evolve. well i guess we wont be here to see the change. noone will ever know.

  • @1311107 well what i believe is if 2012 does come true that humans will be destroyed and room will be made for the next dominate species cuz look at the dinosaurs as soon as they were gone mammals filled in so when we are gone i just wonder whats next but the way we are living that is going to be sea life dominating next.

  • Some common misconceptions that cloud the truth about our past:

    1. We did not evolve from modern cells. Modern cells are very complicated and are just as evolved as we are. And we didn't evolve from Chimps either, we just have a common ancestor.

    2. Creationists typically have no grasp whatsoever of what 4 billion years means.

They have this sort of vague feeling that according to Evolution things happened much faster and dogs gave birth to cats, and nonsense like that.

  • when he said cleverer and cleverer, does this mean that monkeys are smarter than dogs?

  • lol who wants to be jesus christ?

  • 1:17 "lets have a girl for Jesus Christ shall we?" lol. no bias there.

  • How would he know. I don't think any of us know exactly. The way he just says so decisively, Evolution is why we are here. Self appointed experts just peeve me sometimes.

  • Evolution has been unrefuted to this day and remains the only explanation with evidence to back its claim. Its pretty much safe to say that we came from simpler organisms without certain doubt.

  • I'm not christian, but I do beleive consciousness is energy and can niether be created nor destroyed. Am I right? Maybe/maybe not.. Which brings me to my point. Is he right? Maybe/maybe not. And thats why it peeves me when they speak so certainly about something they are probably just scratching the surface on. And no, it's not unrefuted, I refute it as being gospel truth. I think he just likes to put life in that structure and order himself for his own sense of belonging.

  • i didn't quite understand what you said there...what is conscious energy?

  • Life, living, or some would call it the soul. I believe we transform at birth and death. Look up "Abraham Hicks The meaning of life"

  • Well perhaps anything less than decisive wont get the message out to the children.

  • because its the truth u twat

  • I do hope not, Rev, I do hope not.

  • awsome

متي سيكف المتدينون عن إزعاجنا بخرافاتهم الغبية عن كيف خلق الله المزعوم هذ الكون. سحقا لهم

    i love you Dawkins

  • i could quite happily spend the next million years listening to Richard Dawkins as opposed to a nano-second listening to someone quoting the bible,!

  • When will the religious realise...THEY'VE LOST!!!!!

  • Only after they have taken us down with them.

  • Ignorant ignorant ignorant......

And you wonder why rational thinking people call Christians ignorant and delusional?

I'll tell you why. Because of your insidious leaders feeding you horseshite about a man who died on a cross to "save" us.

Open your eyes, ears and mind to the world and you'll see that your God couldnt have made the world.

Religion is the cancer of society. And until it is gotten rid of people will be at a disadvantage.

  • because apes are evolved into animals who could survive in the environment they live in. Now for the humans. Scientist saw that our ancestors lived a nomadic live so our ancestors whith good brains could adapt themselves in the changing environments. that's why there are apes and humans

  • "If we were related from apes, why there still are apes."

Pssst! Go to TalkOrigins (dot) org. Type in your question in the search feature on there. Seek out; search for the answers. The internet is a marvelous tool to LEARN all sorts of things. Ignorance is not something to be proud of. If you wish some more references for reading material, just message me.

  • "A lot of bullcrap, nobody know were we come from. If we were related from apes, why there still are apes."

If modern dogs came from wolves, why are there still wolves?

  • cose wolfs and dog can both suve in there envirment

  • I realise that. I was responding to Brightingsky2009, who has since removed his original comment.

  • that's like asking why is there still classical music still being composed when there are other genres like rock, pop, hip-hop and rap today. Well...classical music is the root of many types of music today. Its kept going in a straight line while other types of music came branching off as they evolved over time.

  • "lets have a girl for Jesus Christ..." love it.

  • I love listening to Dawkins - so intelligent and rather charismatic as well!

  • Jesus is NOT a God

  • when watching this, how can people call him arrogant?

    he seems very nice

  • how delightfully ignorant you sound. tell me, do you know anything about evolution at all?

  • that`ll be a No

  • That'd be a nice day; punting down the river with Richard Dawkins getting him to tell me interesting things.

  • Some of my relatives are bacteria, matter of fact, down right scum :(

  • If only you could do this in public schools in america...

  • callistos:

Don't expect people just let you mouth off about Christ knows what, just 'cos you feel like it.

You didn't have a 'point', you were just being superior for some reason of your own. You made yourself look like an asshole.

What, after all, were you saying? "Don't go on about Atheism, it's no big deal, be like ME, the boy who's a step ahead of you."

    Lame.

  • I hate elitists atheists who flaunt their atheisim by going out of their way to argue with people of religious conviction. I swear to god, Its makes you all look like you just had the epiphany of atheism just the day before and therefore makes you all look like idiots for not have realizing that we live in a godless world any sooner.

  • You go on like this, with these pointless attacks, because you have no good arguments of your own. Sad.

  • Aww, pooo little babys so Sad because I'm not gonna make an argument much needed by you to further cement your weakly held conviction of atheisim. You don't know me asshole. How dare you say I don't have any arguements of my""own""(cause there all basicly the same)

Look, for good reason I believe the same exact thing you do, i suppose, but my "point" is don't be a lame ass about it. This ain't no big deal and aint no question of the ages. Don't criticize me for being a step ahead of you.

  • So... by "weakly held conviction", you are STATING, that mmartini50 has only a noodle-grip on his own beliefs, while you have an iron one?

    THAT is assuming. you don't know mmartini50, so /you/ can't criticize /him/.

    THINK before you SPEAK

If you don't, you just come across as a loud-mouthed idiot yourself.

    Good. Day.

  • Get used to the facts, just like how the world is round and not flat, and get on with your god damn lives because You remind me of a bunch of kids who just learned how to tie their shoes and now wanna show everybody. You all should be embarrassed.

  • his wife is kinda milfy lol

  • LOVE IT!_ "Let's have a girl for Jesus Christ, shall we?"

    Hahahahahahahahahaha.....

  • Yeah, that was great. XD

  • Creationsit fucktards wouldn't know proper education if it came up to them, slapped them in their stupid faces and said "Hey, I'm education! Learn something, fool!"

  • Creationists are morons - you can't discuss this with them; they put their fingers in their ears and go "lalalalalalalalala!"

They think people outside the redneck states think like they do. But it's only in America -to it's eternal shame- that creationism is even given the time of day. US creationists don't know that in the rest of the free world, evolution is a fact, and creationism is seen as retarded (which it IS), by just about EVERYONE.

  • Except, of course, Islam. Muslims also think that creationism is the literal truth.

Nice to know that the US Christian creationists are keeping good company.

  • I am an American, and I find comfort in hearing that the rest of the educated world doesn't think like most Americans do. If America was all I knew, I wouldn't see any hope. However, there is one thing that makes me proud to be an American, the First Amendment. No matter how many people are Christian over here, it can't get into our government (hopefully). Our forefathers tried hard to keep religion out of the U.S. government.

  • Like a lot of Brits, I think your nation is fantastic - so much strength, not just militarily, but in it's diversity of people, such a vibrant combination of different cultures, more or less united under one banner. Such fantastic science and technology too, world leaders still.

It's also like, with Obama elected, "welcome back to your rightful intellectual place in the world, America". You got a clever, secular leader once more on the world stage.

No wonder the bigots feel besieged!

  • If we get evidence against evolution theory, or parts of it, we will correct the information.

Thats what science is all about in the end, understanding how life, the universe and everything works. :)

  • And I think that science wants to be disproved, that's the whole point to science. It's hay, if you can prove different, than do it. You have to be able to see some kind of evidence. Something that can be verified,

  • Saying that evolution is a RELIGION is just stupid. Evolution is a theory, a very likely one, and there is evidence for evolution, religious people just tend to ignore it rather aggressively sometimes.

Of course i BELIEVE in evolution but i dont have blind faith in it because some guys in funny clothes said its true.

I find it kinda funny that some people actually believe that earth is 6000 years old.

If you cant accept the facts, go live in a cave or something and dont bother us anymore. :)

  • I think it is a shame they are allowed to teach their religion in school. Let kids do that with their families or on their own. To avoid controversy lets just not teach religion in public schools. No?

  • evolution is scientific fact as well as theory, not religion. Evolution is tought in science class, if children go to church, they learn about religion.

  • how do you know your religion is not a false religion, I have a Pagan friend, what makes your religion any better then yours?

  • When did he claim to have a religion?

  • a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

you are not right, evolution is not a cause, or creation of the universe, but a scientific fact and theory that shows, well, the evolution of man, and it also does not provide you ways to govern your life.

  • so then, all kids who believe in santa/tooth fairy/easter bunny/leprechauns are religious?

People that believe the unprovable (sound like likely scenarios but there is no actual documentation of such an occurance) urban legends, are religious?

Hello, I'd like to start the Urban Legend cult

we collect all possible urban legends, from alligators being flushed down toilets and surviving to odd acts of heroism or villainy.

We don't acknowledge false legends, but worship the unprovable!

    ...

    uh, no.

  • I guess in a way you COULD call it that. Not really the matter at hand here. I think the origin of EVERYTHING hold a little more weight than the tooth fairy, but I won't burst your bubble.

  • If your religion was true, there would be evidence to support it.

"Once you become born again it is a SUPERNATURAL event that changes your life forever. "

    So does medication.

"No science on earth can prove something that's supernatural, none."

Funny how the supernatural and non existent are a like. Kind of like Angels and Pink Unicorns.

  • There IS evidence. Look all around you. Evidence is EVERYWHERE. (can't remember which verse it was)

  • If you can provide evidence for your case, and get it published for peer review in a scientific journal, you can expect to win a Nobel Prize and about a million dollars. Why are you wasting your time with me?

  • For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. - Romans 1:20

You have no excuse as to why you're not following Jesus Christ. NONE.

Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!

  • How is it you can see invisible qualities? Believing is not on the same level as demonstrating something. I don't need to see gravity to know it's effects on time, matter and photons.

Do have a very good reason for not following Jesus. He's as fictional as Harry Potter.

When are you going to post your proof of your claims?

  • by "everywhere" you mean in all those little books the evangelicals are always passing out?

Yah...scraps of paper - printed by humans - are evidence...

  • that did not answer my wueation, in fact, you just tried to use your religion to prove your own religion, a circle argument, completely invalid. And just so you know, Christianity is just as man-made as paganism, support your claims though, use evidence NOT from the bible.

  • sorry, i menat this to Nobodyspecial85, not to evolution, just in case it gets confused, and plus the last section is "bettwer then His" in the above comment.

  • Go proseltyze somewhere else fucktard!!

  • nah

  • Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!

  • RAmen!! Flying Spaghetti Monster will come to take us all to the great Beer Volcano in the sky!!!! RAmen!!

  • What religion? He never mentioned any religion.

the closest to religion he mentioned was some people needing something more to explain their world than what science can offer.

This man said, (I'm expanding this of course) that he doesn't need a religion because he's fine with the way, and to the extent, that science explains the world around him.

  • Where was Dr. Dawkins when I was a child? How I wish he could have explained and shared with me the elegance of the universe. Instead, I was told that God made everything...From the sun, earth, stars & of course, me. Imagination, curiousity & exploration were not encouraged. They were not options. I'm thrilled to see children learn, participate & challenge themselves. Thank you, Dr. Dawkins, for opening a whole new world to me & others - You have made all the difference!

  • Wow this youtube video is really good. I give this video all stars! haha That's really interesting. This made me feel better. haha

  • How beautiful! How wonderful to share such knowledge with the young!

  • Idk, I'd be pissed off if my kids had to sit through that crap.

  • HAHAHAHA at 1:10 Dawkins pokes the kid with a ruler.

  • Dawkins seems like a great teacher.

  • Yes he does seem like a great teacher and a great human, a true humanist.

  • Wow - great way to illustrate the point

  • who the hell is william conqueror?

    anyways, good video.

  • Hastings, 1066, the year England became England.

  • There's this website you can go on that helps you find out the answers for questions like this, I think you might have heard of it. It's called Google.

  • Every biology teacher should see this video.

  • Let's have a girl for Jesus Christ, shall we?

    Hahaha

  • Aw Richard Dawkins the romantic, look at him paddling that boat :).

Seriously though, I think RD is great. A year ago, I didn't really realize that there were people called atheists who didn't believe in any sorts of gods, and that this was okay. Then I came across an interview of his totally by accident, gobbled up everything of his I could find, and realized that I was an atheist too. And I've never looked back.

  • He is real Oxfordian romantic.

But he is also sharp and ready to debate anything.

  • Splendid! Thank you for sharing that with us.

  • I liked the paintings he brought with him. Also he was able to teach evolution in a way that made sense to school children, that was awesome.

  • So Lala DID end up with the Doctor after all!!

  • funny how he made a girl be jesus

  • I want Dawkins to teach me stuff!!!

  • Brilliant.

If it weren't for Richard Dawkins, I might never had learned to appreaciate the beauty and the power of science to explain things in a way thats rational, and sesible.

    5/5

  • lol..."lets have a girl for Jesus Christ"....love it Dawkins...love it

  • Richard Dawkins doesnt seem like he would be a good elementary school teacher.

  • thats fucked up... hahaha ... he freaked out the kid " I EALIZED MY RELATIVES ARE BACERIAZ" woahhhhhh......

  • brilliant video. i gay love him too.

  • i gay love rickard dawkins

    5/5

  • These kids will have no problem understanding the time scale. Pity that Creationists don't have the intellect to take it all on board.

  • HAHA.....let's have Jesus as a girl. Tbh that is very very clever. Well played.

  • I want to be Jesus Christ! Then I can tell everyone I was just having a laugh and get on with my carpentry.

    .. Lovely!

  • who wants to be jesus christ? lol

  • He wanted a girl to fit the hippy longhaired version of jesus we think of :P

  • loool

  • He gave children nail files??? He's a terrorist! GET'EM, boys!

Hehe, kidding... this is a cute experiment. Wish someone had explained this stuff to me when I was little. ^_^

  • He did that really well, I was worried that he wouldn't be able to convey evolution into a way that the kids wouldn't understand.

    Props to Dawkins.

  • If anyone cares about kids its mr dawkins. He cares so much about future generations of humanity learning and understanding how we came to be. As opposed to the brainwashing methods of religion.

  • You really have to admire educators like Richard Dawkins. He is an Oxford professor, holding a prestigious chair, and is world renown for his books on evolution, and his criticism of religion, and yet he takes the time to instruct children on the beauty of evolutionary theory. If more instructors had his enthusiasm and zeal for educating the masses the world would be better off.

  • Wish i had a teacher like Dawkins when i was a kid.

  • I wish Dawkins came to my school when I was younger.

  • Your assertion on earthquakes is enough for me to know you are in no way a sceptic and you are extremely under educated on the subject. Religious/ Nostradamus nuts like you love to make this incorrect assertion without even the slightest piece of evidence which contradicts everything the experts in the field are saying.

  • "since 1992 there has been a huge increse in hurricanes and earthquakes"

You're actually right saying the link between global warming and hurricanes is dubious at best HOWEVER! And I have done allot of studying on this, hurricanes are in fact not increasing and most certainly earthquakes are NOT INCREASING and every geologist in the world would laugh at you, you are just making assertions now.

  • Dawkins=Coolest person alive? .-.

  • I bet he's really boring to hang out with.

  • Dawkins unarguably is the coolest person alive

  • Hes my bromance.

  • I think it was perfect that he chose a girl to represent jesus. Considering how womanizing religious teachings are. I hope that gave that girl a powerful memory in which she succeeds in life.

  • god hates women

  • yes...yes he does.

  • A girl for Jesus Christ? That's blasphemous.

  • Blasphemy is a victim-less crime.

  • If someone blasphemes in the woods and no god is around to hear it, does it still make a sound.

  • "If no god is around. Does any sin make sound?" - PGT

  • "To sin against a brother is worse than any other." - CKL

  • Oh noodle monster he's Irish, please note not all Irish people are this ridiculously under educated, you make me embarrassing for being Irish!

  • let's have a girl for jesus christ,

dunno why but it made me lol

  • "experience of being on acid and the nde is completley differen"

Yes perhaps acid but not all hallucinogens are the same, for instance take up to a 1000mg does of mescaline form the sand predro cactus and the experiences these people explain are EXACTLY the kind of things you see, same goes for DMT, all exactly the same supernatural, religious experiences depending on the persons beliefs. Again stop assuming things and do some reading.

  • @mothball667 the main difference between taking drugs that can induce an nde and ndes themselves is that people who have real ndes have been able to report things for which their is no known explanaition, for example they may be able to hear whats occuring around them and see whats happening when they are supposed to be dead with no brain activity or heart function.there are several cases where this has happend the most famous of which is pam reynolds from 1991

  • "the main difference between taking drugs that can induce an nde and ndes themselves is that people who have real ndes have been able to report things for which their is no known explanaition, for example they may be able to hear whats occuring around them and see whats happening when they are supposed to be dead with no brain activity or heart function."

There has NEVER been a case of someone reporting something said while there was no brain activity. NEVER.

  • Doesn't that type of experience occur when the heart stops?

So it's more clinically dead rather than brain death, deprived of vital blood & oxygen it would be very conceivable that the brain when shutting down would start some kind of hallucination or dream state..

  • "Doesn't that type of experience occur when the heart stops?

So it's more clinically dead rather than brain death, deprived of vital blood & oxygen it would be very conceivable that the brain when shutting down would start some kind of hallucination or dream state.."

Precisely. Recent research has shown that the brain is capable of processing sound long after clinical death occurs, so long as brain death doesn't occur of course.

  • sorry but your soooo wrong. in the case f pam reynolds her brain was drained of all blood so they could operate on the tumor, she was practically a vegetable yet she was able to see what sort of tools the doctor was using , she described a tool which resembled an electric toothbrush being used, this is a bone saw, she was also able to tell what the nurse said to the doctor word for word, the only way she could have seen and heard all this is if she was literally out of her body

  • Uh actually she claimed to have a near death experience. That's a bit different and an expected symptom of having your brain starved of oxygen.
