  • @longfellowrocked Why was this comment removed, eli2947? I didnt use any foul language, offensive terms or anything like that.

  • I get so upset with the world, this piece of music calms my nerves when i am upset, it is a good remedy for people with problems.

  • Not only is Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata a beautiful piece, but it's also played by Ingolf Dahl, a brilliant composer. 2 great musical minds at work here...what an absolutely beautiful treasure.

  • when i first heard this on the movie, it felt like an hour of peace

  • my favorite part from the movie :''-)

  • Who cares if this has nothing to do with the rest of the movie? This is beautiful.

  • @TheHambone12 But it does have something to do with the movie..it was in the movie, wasnt it?

  • @longfellowrocked Let me elaborate. I mean to say it has nothing to do with the story. Don't get me wrong, this part is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. But how does it connect with the story?

  • @TheHambone12 The whole story involved the other characters as well: Linus and his blanket, snoopy being shot down in a dream as a WW1 flying ace..all of the other's parts are intermeshed with his own, even though Charlie is the main subject. Thats all I was saying.

  • Utterly delightful. Just bought this DVD from my local library's 'withdrawn' trolley for £1. Nobody had borrowed it since early 2008. Pah...it's all mine now, and I've just sat and watched it with my wife and four-year-old son, and we have all been completely captivated, not only by the wonderful tale of Charlie and his friends, but by this wonderful piece of music and animation.

Can't see myself getting much work done today, now...

  • BTW, if you're watching this on December 16, happy Beethoven's Birthday!

  • Schroeder, one of the greatest Beethoven pianists of all time. I mean, just listen to the sound he gets out of that toy piano!

  • I love this movement (and the entire piece). One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written! Thanks for sharing this!

  • I love this clip!

  • "Incidentally, who's this? George Washington?"

  • 140 likes, 1 dislike.

Lucy Van Pelt has a Youtube account.

  • I wish Phyllis Chen or Margaret Leng Tan would play these on toy piano as they should be.

  • Pure Magic is Beethoven's Sonata No 8 - Pathetique 2nd Movement ...Nuff Said.

  • @eftipef I saw it on youtube. But yeah might be worth buying as well. :)

  • I remember watching this movie when i was 4 or 5 years old and out of all the scenes in this well done and unforgettable film, this is one of the scenes that i remember most fondly.

I am planning of buying the movie on DVD, so that i can give it to my four year old niece as a gift for her next birthday.

  • @RayGarraty1985 this movie is amazing....i have it on dvd and watch it all the time with my children and i'm 40...

  • BELLISSIMOOOOOOOOOOO IL MIO PREFERITOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's what animation is all about Charlie Brown...

  • i bought ingrid fliter's version of beethoven's pathetique...i can't wait to hear it...

  • I have a question,i have seen every character share any word with each other but i havent seen schroeder say anything to peppermint patty or marcie, have they ever talked to each other? it may sound weird but as far as i know it has never happened

  • aww I loved this part of the movie, this and when snoopy skates. I wish they still showed the peanuts, one of the best cartoons ever made.

  • (sniff) I am 20 years old. I loved this movie as a kid. I cried the entire time I watched this. It was this clip that made me love Beethoven, and made me love that song. This was an incredibly fond memory, and even as I type this, I have tears of joy and memory streaming down my face. Thank you.

  • It's the Peanuts version of "Fantasia!"

  • what's the name of the sonata?

  • @iadros10 Pathetique.

  • @iadros10 Sonata #8 in C minor "Pathetique"..... Schroeder is playing the 2nd movement

  • @Doug19752533 thank you ;)

  • the things at 1:37 used to creep me out

  • @jordyboy321 Me too!

  • i have been looking for this piece of music for 3 years...

  • @jordyboy321 any good book of Beethoven sonatas will have it - sonata #8 "pathetique" 2nd mvt

  • Beautiful. I was lucky to be able to watch this program when I was a kid and I didn't even know it. Glad I had some memory on this part of the movie.

  • I wish I had the ability to conjure up images to fit the music I was playing.

  • I remember seeing this at the theatre when I was a kid and being absolutely blown away by this scene. It wasn't Fantasia by any means but, for movie filler, it managed to inspire an innocent awe inside me.

  • LSDAF

  • Isn't that called Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata?

  • @miazagora no, this is called the "Pathetique Sonata" but i do love Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" too! :)

  • @miazagora no its the Pathetique

  • Wow...beautiful in every sense of the word. The Pathetique is one of my favorites anyway. Brilliant use of animation , almost like a series of still shots.

I have not seen this movie since the age of 6 back in 1969, I remember this sequence though.

  • beethoven is smiling for this is how he wanted his music remembered

  • i like how the piano gets bigger than schroeder.

  • schroeder is fucking gifted.

    <3

  • My favorite scene in one of my favorite movies ever! And the quality is superb! Thanks so much for the upload!

  • wow. i have never seen this movie but this scene is absolutely beautiful.

  • I remember watching "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" when I was a little girl. I'd rewind the tape just to see this one scene on replay. "Pathetique Sonata" is a beautiful piece and I love the visual animation that was chosen to go with the music; they fit together perfectly. :)

  • Although it is not the whole Sonata and the best interpretor (Ingolf Dahl), it is something special to hear and watch. Thanks Mr. Schulz, thanks Mr. Dahl and thanks Mr. Beethoven!

  • @ChelseaJoeCool I grant you, it would have been nice to hear the whole thing, but I think Dahl nailed this better than almot any other recorded version I have ever heard.

  • @jjobie Listen to Emil Gilels version or Guldas, they are slightly better.

  • @ChelseaJoeCool Hey, I checked out Giels's version here on Youtube and loved it but can't track down any vids of Guldas (?)

  • @jjobie I think the video is deleted....You may have to wait untill someone posts it again, but Dahls and Gilels interpretations are beautiful enough.

  • beautiful! just beautiful!!

  • I absolutely LOVE hearing pathetique at this tempo...it gives me chills.

  • Beethoven and Peanuts, what could be better..

  • Best Charlie Brown movie ever. When I was a kid I used to fast forward this part because it was "boring". What a fool I was.

  • You hit it RIGHT ON. I did the exact same thing then one day, I don't know when, I would scrounge up the VHS, yea VHS recorded from TV, fast forward through everything else JUST to hear and watch this part! How funny....Glad to know I'm not alone...

  • My interpretation: he played that music from his piano, and wrote down, and through music he blossomed, and his music also grew. he began to see his world in different hues, and the church. his work brought people together, even when things were hard. he saw the music in the world and its many colors, and inspired the arts. he began a poor boy in a humble place, and is with the angels. Remember me...

  • I can't believe this clip has so few views. Excellence. How come we can't take a trippy narrative pause every now and then like they did in the 60's films?

  • @riotgearhead watched the movie last night and headed for youtube :)

  • @riotgearhead coz not everyone gets high everyday like they did in the 60's :D

  • @riotgearhead the answer to that seems to be because of the people who show up to focus groups for the movie at the studio and say "this part doesn't make sense and shouldn't be in the movie".

And it proves that sometimes it's better to have a vision rather than let something be built from a committee.

  • wow. i used to watch this all the time as a kid and in retrospect i think it has greatly impacted my life haha. it's so hauntingly beautiful...

  • This scene made me fall in love with this song and Schroeder.

  • Beautiful!

That's where I first fell in love with it.

  • I have, since childhood, loved "Pathetique Sonata" because of this clip. It's hauntingly beautiful and the animation suits it perfectly.

  • @barnztormre You and I both.

  • @barnztormre Same here!! This is how I knew about Beethoven before being able to recognize it! I had it in my subconscious from when I was little!

  • Amazing animation!
