Not only is Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata a beautiful piece, but it's also played by Ingolf Dahl, a brilliant composer. 2 great musical minds at work here...what an absolutely beautiful treasure.
@longfellowrocked Let me elaborate. I mean to say it has nothing to do with the story. Don't get me wrong, this part is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. But how does it connect with the story?
@TheHambone12 The whole story involved the other characters as well: Linus and his blanket, snoopy being shot down in a dream as a WW1 flying ace..all of the other's parts are intermeshed with his own, even though Charlie is the main subject. Thats all I was saying.
Utterly delightful. Just bought this DVD from my local library's 'withdrawn' trolley for £1. Nobody had borrowed it since early 2008. Pah...it's all mine now, and I've just sat and watched it with my wife and four-year-old son, and we have all been completely captivated, not only by the wonderful tale of Charlie and his friends, but by this wonderful piece of music and animation.
Can't see myself getting much work done today, now...
I remember watching this movie when i was 4 or 5 years old and out of all the scenes in this well done and unforgettable film, this is one of the scenes that i remember most fondly.
I am planning of buying the movie on DVD, so that i can give it to my four year old niece as a gift for her next birthday.
I have a question,i have seen every character share any word with each other but i havent seen schroeder say anything to peppermint patty or marcie, have they ever talked to each other? it may sound weird but as far as i know it has never happened
(sniff) I am 20 years old. I loved this movie as a kid. I cried the entire time I watched this. It was this clip that made me love Beethoven, and made me love that song. This was an incredibly fond memory, and even as I type this, I have tears of joy and memory streaming down my face. Thank you.
I remember seeing this at the theatre when I was a kid and being absolutely blown away by this scene. It wasn't Fantasia by any means but, for movie filler, it managed to inspire an innocent awe inside me.
Wow...beautiful in every sense of the word. The Pathetique is one of my favorites anyway. Brilliant use of animation , almost like a series of still shots.
I have not seen this movie since the age of 6 back in 1969, I remember this sequence though.
I remember watching "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" when I was a little girl. I'd rewind the tape just to see this one scene on replay. "Pathetique Sonata" is a beautiful piece and I love the visual animation that was chosen to go with the music; they fit together perfectly. :)
Although it is not the whole Sonata and the best interpretor (Ingolf Dahl), it is something special to hear and watch. Thanks Mr. Schulz, thanks Mr. Dahl and thanks Mr. Beethoven!
@ChelseaJoeCool I grant you, it would have been nice to hear the whole thing, but I think Dahl nailed this better than almot any other recorded version I have ever heard.
@jjobie I think the video is deleted....You may have to wait untill someone posts it again, but Dahls and Gilels interpretations are beautiful enough.
You hit it RIGHT ON. I did the exact same thing then one day, I don't know when, I would scrounge up the VHS, yea VHS recorded from TV, fast forward through everything else JUST to hear and watch this part! How funny....Glad to know I'm not alone...
My interpretation: he played that music from his piano, and wrote down, and through music he blossomed, and his music also grew. he began to see his world in different hues, and the church. his work brought people together, even when things were hard. he saw the music in the world and its many colors, and inspired the arts. he began a poor boy in a humble place, and is with the angels. Remember me...
I can't believe this clip has so few views. Excellence. How come we can't take a trippy narrative pause every now and then like they did in the 60's films?
@riotgearhead the answer to that seems to be because of the people who show up to focus groups for the movie at the studio and say "this part doesn't make sense and shouldn't be in the movie".
And it proves that sometimes it's better to have a vision rather than let something be built from a committee.
