This makes me proud to be a UT freshman =] I really needed this at the orientation. Tennessee, as a whole, (politically) might not be geared toward same-sex marriage (and this is personal, so I can interpret it in any way) in our close future, but it showed me, a kid from the eastern rural area of Tennessee, that I will be safe here. Thank you to who ever posted, took part and edited this video ^_^
No one deserves anything but the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Everything else has to be earned! The only thing I want and deserve are those three things. I do not deserve your respect, I must earn it. I do not deserve anyone's recognition, I must earn it. I do not deserve your acceptance, I have to earn it. We are not "one" we are individuals to be accepted based on our merit. This video is nothing but propaganda.
@MrFretman6 Your philosophy sounds like guilty until proven innocent. Just curious-why are you limiting people's rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Seems arbitrary. I would respectfully disagree with your outlook. Momma always told me to treat others as you would want to be treated-I want to be treated with respect-only seems right that I would give it as well. Everybody comes with a blank slate-innocent until proven guilty. Gonna respect you whether you like it or not. ;)
@NickChafin No one is guilty until they are proven guilty. You are twisting what I have said. You will have my respect as long as you earn it. That doesn't mean that I will disrespect you the moment I met you. Your mother is right if you do good to others and me you will earn respect. All other rights stem from the three I stated. Certainly you have many rights that flow from life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You should be able to deduce what those rights are as natural rights.
i hope that as part of the civility and community initiative, the university pays close attention to some of its most marginalized members: low wage workers. this video is nice, but we can't build our community on the backs of poor people who work for poverty wages, and who are disproportionately women, and especially women of color. unless we pay attention to those folks, we're actually not going to be able to claim that we have in any meaningful way transformed our community.
Outstanding video! Message is very powerful and very applicable! Thank you for sharing!
