I'm looking at this video and the comments from a dis-interested anthropological viewpoint.
I find it interesting that all culture is evolved over time, and includes the very important of mixing and rehashing older cultures into newer ones. I think sometimes we forget this. If this didn't happen, then we wouldn't have the cultures we have now.
American music and dance is a (fairly short and quick) evolution from the melding of African, Irish, and the rest of European music (primarily).
@danielmrussell I dont think you understand what classical dance is in that case. DO not comment without proper knowledge about the field. In previous days classical was performed in the temples of gods. Classical dancing depicts incarnation of Natraj, Avatar of Lord Shiva himself. Even if there is a huge cultural evolution, it will and should never loose its essence.
@MsSpooky6 The same thing happened many times peviously to many other cultures. For example, in Europe, *all* music was at one time considered sacred and could *only* be played in church. As composers began using the science of music developed in the church to write secular music (and esp because they deviated from the somber "church modes"), there was a backlash. When gospel music was co-opted into jazz halls, many individuals felt this was a sick perversion of sacred music.
anyhow its very obvious to see these both dancers were waiting for the awfull music and they are not properly trained dancer. its clear cut with their mutras (hand gesture) and their syncronisation
this is the most disgracefull thing that can ever happen to the indian dance which dates back more than 2000 years... u dont support it, we dont care, but dont insult it....... be proud as indian and try to make things that make other to see our pride not our awfullness by showing others our most precious culture
I have no problems with music - you can do Indian Classical dance to any music. But it's a disgrace to wear the costume and do bollywood dance that you call "bharatanatyam fusion". There is bharatanatyam fusion, and this is not it.
I think it would be more appropriate to do bharatnatyam on western music for fusion(will make it more interesting as well) then doing western steps in the bharatnatyam costume!
Bharathanatyam is a tradition form of dance. you should be ashamed to expose it in absured songs .. well , if you so wanna get exposed try not to post in web which might hurt other classical dance...
Come on! Bharatanatyam costume and western steps??! One can follow the beats sticking to the pure Classical Dance Form, but not get along with western steps carrying the rich heritage and tradition of the costume of Bharatanatyam..
i agree with ur 1st post sravankcm.... After seeing such kind of dance we feel all our efforts of learning this rich art form goes waste.... It also seems the dancer themselves dont have any respect for the art form... Its Sad indeed...!!!
@sravankcm i totally understand that. I am a graduate student at penn state! I know wat grad life is like! I think it is very important that you maintain good quality in performing whether it is for a small or big show. Moreover, when you put it on a site like youtube, everyone gets to see it. It does not portray indian classical dance to people from other countries, the way it has to be! Thanks for replying!
I am extremely pained and offended as a classical dancer and a connoisseur of the art form! I would be glad if you could remove "indian classical" from the title and the tag. The so-called "classical" portions are SO SUB STANDARD! Natraja pose at 2:42 ? really?
This is simply disturbing and extremely inappropriate...... the costume was made for classical dance and not Western....as we all witnessed when one of the girl's jewels broke off.....There nothing wrong with being a versitile dancer, but ppl can u plz respect the costume and the tradition it represents?
Ya dude, my sis wanted to perform this kinda number for her office function, so.. Please send it to my email.. Thanks a lot. (hope its not the audio rip from the video, the original ok...?) :)
Classical dance is considered divine, depicting the incarnations of the lord... This is utter bullshit, you should be ashamed to do this.
