@MegaNitroRacer Nah, nothing was wrong with John's car, when ever a driver pedals the car it sometimes lifts the front end because the clutch begins to fully engage
I remember watching this when I was 5 and was mesmerized. I remeber brock yates describing it as a "short track stock car race" This race made me want to be a drag racer and now I am
That was the very round that about all but locked up the championship for The Cruzer in 1992, then Force flipped his car over in qualifying at the final race of the year at Pomona, then lost I think in the 1st round, and that was what clinched the title for Cruz.
when did they implement the rule that your out if you hit the wall or cross the centerline - why did force get back in it after he hit the first time?
@Hotrodnchop I do remember Force getting screwed on this rule a few years later.Dont remember who he was racing but it was a double red light, the other car took off way before John but both cars were declared losers.I remember watching thinking "what happened to first or worst"? anyway,John got screwed on that one.
@TheoneGodfather The incident where both Force and Bode were DNQ'd, wasn't a double red light. Both drivers left the starting line before even activating the start system. You must "pre-stage" your car before leaving the starting line. This is paramount to ensure track safety as well as record legitimate performance stats such as e.t. , r.t., 60 ft times, red lighting fouls etc....They've since made a change to the rule which is now governed under the "First or Worst" rulling as well.
@TheHellsEngine Hmmm,,,,makes sense.Even though i swear i can remember some yellow stage lights,,,,maybe not.Never did hear a good explaination why John was tossed.
I'm sure it was just adrenelin...as a racer you know if you hit the wall you're out....but I bet he was so amped up that he didn't care....he just wanted to get to the finish line ahead of Cruz....
@luckyleaf6 Great Question! I've seen racers throw bug-eyed, full blown, temper tantrums, (to the point of having to be physically restrained) while a track official, tries to ,calmly, explain this frustratingly, simplistic "Golden Rule", known as "First...or Worst." MEANING: He who fouls FIRST, or he who fouls the WORST, is awarded the foul. Crossing the centerline is a Greater Foul than hitting the wall. Force got bak init cuz Cruz could have already hit the wall, or MAY cross the center
@luckyleaf6 This rule has ALWAYS been in effect. In the beginning it mostly addressed crossing the center as there were few walls yet at the strip. But there were lines. Most notably the one that separates the race course. And seeing as how the NHRA was founded on (whether for clever PR reasons or the actual fact or not) to end street racing and promote driver safety. The ablity to keep YOUR car in YOUR lane was seen as a fundamental skill or prerequisite all drivers must posess to race SAFELY
