Yu Na Kim is extremely popular in her home country while we got Sasha and Alissa! :-) Her gorgeous spirals are her gift to the world. So fast and perfectly centered
Alissa has always been a great skater (check out her 2005 season) but she had to win the Grand Prix Final before people other than her fans took any degree of notice of her. I think her 2009 Nats sp is one of the best skates in history. If I had to chose between Alissa and Yuna, well, I'd pick Alissa!
If she managed a triple-triple and increased the difficulty in her straightline sequence, she could be one of the best in the world, up there with Mao and Kim at their prime.
I love Alissa Czisny. She's is a beautiful skater. I think she should rank 3rd in the world, after Yu-na and Mao Asada. However, I was kinda disappointed with Asada this season. She's always skated beautifully and moved me so much, but this year at the Grand Prix competitions, she kinda lacked her former elegance and strength. I think Asada switched coaches after the Olympics? I'm not sure. But she really didn't do well at the Grand Prixs. :( Come back Asada!! Yu-na should come back too! XD
Upon viewing this program again, I agree that she is actually quite a beautiful skater. I first watched the program without the music, but when you see it with music, it is a beautiful program.
However, I do NOT think Kim and Mao skate like "teenagers." They are definitely on the top for a reason. They have technical ability, beautiful choreography, and their bodies literally move with the music. I especially loved Kim's 2009 programs, which CLEARLY demonstrated how she can move an audience.
I want to like her, I really do, but the American ladies--other than Mirai Nagasu--have NOTHING on Kim Yuna and Mao Asada. Those two women have fire and artistry that is unparalleled. Alissa is kinda boring to watch, and for the most part, incredibly wooden...
If Mirai Nagasu can be more consistent with her jumps, she would be up there.
@thedummie2 You don't like her because you don't want to like her. Kim Yuna and Mao Asada have NOTHING on Alissa when it comes to program components. Remember, this is "figure" skating, not jump skating. Just because Kim and Mao have better jumps doesn't mean they are better in other areas of skating that actually matter. Neither of them can touch Alissa's spins, spirals, and line. Alissa skates like a woman, not a teenager.
@ihavenoidea81 You are right. Upon viewing this program again, I agree that she is actually quite a beautiful skater, and the program is wonderfully skated.
However, I do NOT think Kim and Mao skate like "teenagers." They are definitely on the top for a reason. @thedummie2 I hardly think that Mao is "on top" anymore. Have you even seen her skate this season? Pretty bad. And Yu-Na hasn't skated all year... a year is a LONG time for not competing in this sport. Your arguments might have worked for last season, but you don't have much to base it on for this season. Let's just wait and see what happens at 4CC and Worlds.
@sgjake21 I've seen Mao skate this year, and yes, I know she has struggled this year. I also know that Yuna has not skated in a year, but when they were at the top of their game, both ladies exuded elegance, grace, and enthusiasm. I agree that that now it's not so much the case, but when they were at their best, they were at their ABSOLUTE best.
That being said, I am excited about Worlds this year because the ladies field is WIDE open. It'll be exciting to see who will come out on top.
@ihavenoidea81 No. You are wrong. Jumps have a huge component in the scores you idiot. There is something called technical scores too. This girl has grace, yes. But, let's be real. CANNOT BE COMPARED TO KIM YUNA OR MAO ASADA.
On the score sheet it simply says 3T plus SEQ meaning that if Alissa were to do a third combination it would have to be on one of those 3T. I think she needs the combination so she can get as many technical points she can to compete with the best in the world and win!!
I thought that if a triple jump is repeated, it has to be in combination. Example: She did two triple toe loops but they were both stand alone jumps... but she got credit for both. Can someone explain the rule to me?
You're half right. if a skater repeat the same solo jumps like Allisa on the day, latter one got SEQ in the judge paper. What it mean is only 80% of the base value is given. ex. First 3T awarded 4.6 but latter 3T got only 3.71.
If it weren't for their inconsistencies, Mirai Nagasu and Alissa Czisny would be the top of the US ladies right now. They are so gorgeous to watch and have the brilliance - and more - of Sasha Cohen and Michelle Kwan. If they could solve their inconsistency issues, the United States would have one heck of a ladies field to beat. Even Mao Asada and Kim Yu-Na would have to work harder to get that level of artistry, and I greatly admire both, especially Mao.
She's nice to watch, but the way the point system is now, yu na can skate for about 55 seconds and have more points than her. I like her spins and artistry though.
She is the only figure skater I have ever seen who has truly MASTERED the grace and beauty, and the true art/meaning of skating. I have seen a couple incredibly graceful skaters, but she just takes it to the next level. Alissa Czisney's skating is so beautiful that it almost makes me cry.
Alissa is the most artistic skater skating competitively today. If she skates like this at Worlds (assuming she gets there), she deserves to make the podium. But I fear that Miki Ando's empty programs (except for the jumps) and total lack of any artistry will beat her.
@skatefan9495 really? What's her personal best without any mistakes? Yu-na's is 228. Alissa is nowhere near that because yuna and mao are in a completely different league. Alissa just has consistency and flexibility.
@leadpencil96 There are changes in the scoring system that make it unlikely for Yuna or anyone to score 228 this season... now, Yuna is a fantastic skater, but the scores at the Olympics (in general) were VERY inflated. Alissa's PB is now 180.75 (w/ mistakes, no 3rd combo and step out of 2A). Clean could very well be in the 190 range. She has all the qualities, and could very well win worlds, given Mao's current inconsistencies and the fact that it will be Yuna's first competition of the season.
I knew it! I hate to say I told you but I knew she would make it!
it is unbeliebable that she once had to be blame for reducing the Olympic seat of USA's ladies single. that is not her fault, at least she is not the only one to be blame. US was just unlucky then.that's all.
@ChariceBillboard I think so, if you look closely in her jumps, I think she has slower air rotation than most skaters do, it can be fine if she has great height on those jumps, but she hasn't.
I don't know about technical elements in skating programs but this is a breathtaking integration of a beautiful program with this music by George Winston.
Well, she stood up. Saying a lot for her. Her spins are amazing! I am still sad that despite her working on it, the jump technique still has the hitch and I think the close calls of getting some of these triples around forebear trouble if she is nervous(which she usually is) and feeling the pressure at nationals. Not crazy about the music or choreography lacking drama/tension. I think nationals will be interesting seeing her and Mirai go at it.
JCSAMEX- There are no restrictions on repetition of double jumps, only of triples. And you are only allowed a max of 3 combos, only one of which can contain 3 jumps.
Does anybody know how many double toe loops (or loops) can be done in a program? For instance, in this beautiful performance Alissa did two double toes in combo with a lutz and a flip, respectively. I was wondering if she could add another double toe for a triple toe- double toe combo at the her last jumping pass or maybe change the first combo for a 3z+2t+2t. Thanks for the answer in advance. Grettings!
@JCSAMEX: Alissa plans a 3T+2T+2T as her last jumping element. If performed cleanly, it's worth 7.48 points since it's done in the latter half of the program. But she has yet to complete the combination at any competition this year... she should perhaps turn the first 3T into the combo so she doesn't have to worry about it later on in the program.
@ruskryger Thank you so much for the info. I was actually wondering why she didn't do a combo as her last jumping element. I hope she does well at Nationals so she can think of upgrading her technical content in order to be more competitive at Worlds. I'm glad she added a second lutz intead of the flip (she seems to have some problems with that jump). Het lutzes are pure and beautiful. All the best!
@Satellitegirl41 That's exactly the word I thought when I watched this. She is so exquisite, and so balletic in her style. She's the skater that makes you forget you're watching someone in skates on a sheet of ice. It's like she glides in mid- air and gravity has no hold on her. I really hope this is her year at worlds. She desrves so much more recognition than she gets. It was so foolish of the U.S. not to send her to Vancouver. She's the one skater I just can't get enough of.
she has made leaps and strides this year. the coaching change did so much for her technically. this is a beautiful program. i really hope she has two clean programs at nationals, i'm rooting for her all the way. she could very well be the next sasha.
Thanks for the reply memu. I know she executed the first lutz in combination, and the second lutz by itself. I am actually asking about her two triple toe loops. Neither appear to be in combination. Thanks!
@fitgraphisva oh thats fine, as long as she doesnt do them in the same time period. one in the first is worth 4pnts and the one after is 4.4 pts despite being the same.
@fitgraphisva Yay, the second triple toe loop is considered as part of a jumping sequence since she had already done one so it was scored lower than a normal triple toe. If she had added a double toe loop on the end she would have gotten about 3 more points for that one jumping pass.
@RCskater97 yeah i checked the protocol and she got level 3s on both sp and lp. first of all she was the only lady delivering clean biellman and overall spins. her sp biellman alone was held for almost 16 rotations. her lb should always be level 4s
Question: Didn't she have to execute the second triple toe in combination or has the ISA changed the rules? Maybe she received a deduction for it? This skate was scored third. Anyone know? Thanks!
@fitgraphisva no, one can do two lutz jumps, one in the first half and the other, they can choose whichever to be in combination, but only one of them has to be a comb, unless she did 3z 2t and 3z 2t 2l which can slide by
sooooooo beautiful, inspirational, and moving...so delicate and elegant..I love you, Alissa. Keep it up. You've made Nationals worth it for me...Now I'll be nervous for the ladies event at Nationals...just like the Kwan Years. <3
sad to see these days, ladies standards are dropping. so far, only she managed to beat the junior champion, which she received around 176 marks.. it is a shame for senior ladies to receive less points than a junior woman. i am hoping to see yuna's comeback
i am glad alyssa won. however, as beautiful and elegant as she skated, it lacked an element of "excitement?" to me.. Same with Kostner.. Both were the most beautiufl out there. But the skates i enjoy most, that i thought were full of energy and interesting were the japanese skaters...I thought Suzuki, was great with her joy and expression. Murakami, was not as expressive as suzuki, but had the bigger jumps..And Miki, was more balanced; a lot of jumps and also elegant. I
@yorishiku2525 Kind of agree - it is a LOVELY program tho. Slightly more passion in the elegance would be great. I'd love to see her do a 3/3 or 3/2/2 or double axel/triple toe. But I am picking and a very very good program! Gorgeous spins (only level 3?! - huh?!), great positions, flow across the ice and very graceful.
@muscleboi4use , you are right, she skated beautifully, and kostner. It was smooth and the flow was great too...But, i still stick to my original comment...I perfered the other girls more...these commentators are stressing the aritistic aspect so much. As beautiful as they may skate, this is a sport. And to me the athleticism, as well as the energy combined with the expression is what i enjoy most. They are favoring the beauty more then the athleticism.. it is what is see
@yorishiku2525 i disagee, ice skating is all about artistry, is ballet on ice. the artistic side should be equally demanding, otherwise one will see stiff skaters who cant bring n arebesque above 45 degrees or good spins. alissa is the whole package, its all about the jumps for her. when she skates clean, even w/o 3/3 she can out beat anyone, had her flip not been doungraded, the step out on the axel and her laybacks with leel 3s that number wouldve been out of the roof and well deserved
figure skating is a sport. i understand the artistic side, but it is the physical side that makes it exciting, in my opinion..the artistic side of it, is too subjective. I agree they should have it, but everyone likes different views. it is too hard to judge...and out of all the skaters, i thought suzuki was the most expressive, but she lacks beauty.and Yuna kim, wins because of the athletic aspect and the expression, not because she moves the pretties. I just think they need to be careful
@iimissdramaticii , i do perfer suzuki's style of skating. even Yuna Kim's better then alissa's...I think Yuna kim's spiral is awful and spins positions arent great. But her athletic and expression are fantastic..I also think suzuki's expression is better then alissa's as well.. I like alissa's skating. It is beautful. But it lacks excitement in my opinion. And her skating is not as versatile as suzuki and kim's...I think all alissa can do is skate beatiuflly and "slow?" "mellow?"
@muscleboi4use she has practiced 3t3t but she seems to not choose to put them in programs considering she is close to being on the podium most of the time. def would be cool if she tried a 2x3t or 3sal 3toe
I'm really glad she won, and it was so unexpected!
She's graceful and everything, but I'd love to see her skate to other kinds of music too. I'm not a fan of this programme...anyway I think it would be lovely for her to skate to Debussy, Chopin or Saint-Saens.
OMG, Alissa looks like a vision on the ice, a goddess of beauty. She looks like a young queen... If she can skate like this again at World championship, she will be the 2011 World Champion.
so smooth and beautiful to watch...brings a smile to my face...this is what I love about skating...the beauty..making those difficult spins look so easy. GO ALISSA!!!!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I hate Alissa and I'm american. She's always just wearing those long dresses and trying to be graceful all the time. It's always about being elegant for her. Like she never picks a different theme. And it's always the same song. Yu-Na picked James Bond, Mao picked tango, Carolina and Kanako picked tango too.
@CappyTown hate? that's pretty strong and you don't even know her. are you really judging her based on her skating programs? that petty and almost unbelievable.
@CappyTown Have you met her? I don't understand how you can hate someone you've never met. What Alissa brings to the table is skating like a woman and not like a girl. There is a refinement to her skating that's lacking overall in the sport.
She has not used the same song either. Before you comment, I suggest you think before you type. It's fine if you don't prefer one particular skater, but it doesn't warrant hopping on YouTube, saying you hate her, and accuse her of using the same songs.
@CappyTown Do you know that each skater has one set program for the SP and the FS for the whole season? Plus, figure skating is a lot about elegance. She doesn't try. As KweenBombersfan said, she is graceful.

Ooops...I mean ISU of course. Sorry!

Beautiful lady. Beautiful skate.
Question: Didn't she have to execute the second triple toe in combination or has the ISA changed the rules? Maybe she received a deduction for it? This skate was scored third. Anyone know? Thanks!
fitgraphisva 1 year ago
@fitgraphisva no, one can do two lutz jumps, one in the first half and the other, they can choose whichever to be in combination, but only one of them has to be a comb, unless she did 3z 2t and 3z 2t 2l which can slide by

sooooooo beautiful, inspirational, and moving...so delicate and elegant..I love you, Alissa. Keep it up. You've made Nationals worth it for me...Now I'll be nervous for the ladies event at Nationals...just like the Kwan Years. <3

yay Alissa! She's magnificent, although I don't think the music does her justice.

sad to see these days, ladies standards are dropping. so far, only she managed to beat the junior champion, which she received around 176 marks.. it is a shame for senior ladies to receive less points than a junior woman. i am hoping to see yuna's comeback

i am glad alyssa won. however, as beautiful and elegant as she skated, it lacked an element of "excitement?" to me.. I
yorishiku2525 1 year ago
@yorishiku2525 Kind of agree - it is a LOVELY program tho. Slightly more passion in the elegance would be great. I'd love to see her do a 3/3 or 3/2/2 or double axel/triple toe. But I am picking and a very very good program! Gorgeous spins (only level 3?! - huh?!), great positions, flow across the ice and very graceful.
muscleboi4use 1 year ago
@muscleboi4use , you are right, she skated beautifully, and kostner. It was smooth and the flow was great too...But, i still stick to my original comment...I perfered the other girls more...these commentators are stressing the aritistic aspect so much. As beautiful as they may skate, this is a sport. And to me the athleticism, as well as the energy combined with the expression is what i enjoy most. They are favoring the beauty more then the athleticism.. it is what is see
yorishiku2525 1 year ago
@yorishiku2525 i disagee, ice skating is all about artistry, is ballet on ice. the artistic side should be equally demanding, otherwise one will see stiff skaters who cant bring n arebesque above 45 degrees or good spins. alissa is the whole package, its all about the jumps for her. when she skates clean, even w/o 3/3 she can out beat anyone, had her flip not been doungraded, the step out on the axel and her laybacks with leel 3s that number wouldve been out of the roof and well deserved
memuysexyfosho 1 year ago
figure skating is a sport. i understand the artistic side, but it is the physical side that makes it exciting, in my opinion..the artistic side of it, is too subjective. I agree they should have it, but everyone likes different views. it is too hard to judge...and out of all the skaters, i thought suzuki was the most expressive, but she lacks beauty.and Yuna kim, wins because of the athletic aspect and the expression, not because she moves the pretties. I just think they need to be careful
yorishiku2525 1 year ago
@yorishiku2525 i think kim and suzuki are beautiful skaters...they just have styles you probably don't prefer.
iimissdramaticii 1 year ago
@iimissdramaticii , i do perfer suzuki's style of skating. even Yuna Kim's better then alissa's...I think Yuna kim's spiral is awful and spins positions arent great. But her athletic and expression are fantastic..I also think suzuki's expression is better then alissa's as well.. I like alissa's skating. It is beautful. But it lacks excitement in my opinion. And her skating is not as versatile as suzuki and kim's...I think all alissa can do is skate beatiuflly and "slow?" "mellow?"
yorishiku2525 1 year ago
@muscleboi4use she has practiced 3t3t but she seems to not choose to put them in programs considering she is close to being on the podium most of the time. def would be cool if she tried a 2x3t or 3sal 3toe

Yep, I'm going to cry every time I watch this. Go Alissa...! I am so, so proud of her, and so happy to be a skating fan right now.

I'm really glad she won, and it was so unexpected!
She's graceful and everything, but I'd love to see her skate to other kinds of music too. I'm not a fan of this programme...anyway I think it would be lovely for her to skate to Debussy, Chopin or Saint-Saens.

@CappyTown She doesn't try to be graceful...in my opinion, she IS graceful. I love watching her...to me, she is very elegant and lovely out there.

@CappyTown hate? that's pretty strong and you don't even know her. are you really judging her based on her skating programs? that petty and almost unbelievable.
sgjake21 1 year ago
@CappyTown Have you met her? I don't understand how you can hate someone you've never met. What Alissa brings to the table is skating like a woman and not like a girl. There is a refinement to her skating that's lacking overall in the sport.
She has not used the same song either. Before you comment, I suggest you think before you type. It's fine if you don't prefer one particular skater, but it doesn't warrant hopping on YouTube, saying you hate her, and accuse her of using the same songs.
CloserToReason1 1 year ago
@CappyTown Do you know that each skater has one set program for the SP and the FS for the whole season? Plus, figure skating is a lot about elegance. She doesn't try. As KweenBombersfan said, she is graceful.
But I guess a hater is going to hate.
