Worst wax job ever!! First you clean the base of the ski. Then you apply the wax not holding the iron tip on the ski. If the iron smokes it not only bad for you it is bad for the ski. Then you scrape it off until there is no more wax l left on the ski(you barely scraped anything off). Then you brush it tip to tale.
First clean the bases of the skis using citrus base cleaner. Wait a bit after applying the cleaner (a couple minutes) then wipe it off (I generally use paper towel for the first couple of wipes followed by a fibertex nylon pad). Once the bases are clean you can use an iron to apply the wax. You should let the wax cool then scrape it with a plexi scraper. After scraping the wax you should brush the ski (I recommend using a nylon/brass combination brush. Brush with the brass leading. You're done.
Cool video! Cannot WAIT for ski season. I'm gonna wax my babies every day during the last week before ski season, so thanks a bundle for letting me know how to do it properly!
I have a simple question. If my iron has holes in it, is that okay? Or will the wax damage the iron by going into the holes? And if it is okay to use an iron with holes, is there an effective way to remove dried wax from inside the holes, in case they do dry up in there? Thanks, in advance!
Terrible you need to let the wax cool before you take it off. I would never let you ever wax my skis, you are terrible. You need to take the old wax off before you put on the new wax. Also, you can't just put on any wax. The wax depends on the temperature of the day.
First of all, do you dry the ski or just did not give a fuck?
Before polishing, do you let the wax cold and how do you keep it?
After you polish the ski do you add a second layer?
Did you know that it is bad for the wax to be very hot and it will lose their properties? or you just thought that the smoke was bad for you and not for the ski?
First never use a regular household iron. They are way too hot - even at the lowest setting. Buy a ski wax iron.
Second, do not rest the tip of the iron on the ski base. My daughter did that once, and it left a nice scar along her race skis. She was11 - now she knows better.
The wax acts as a lubricant of sorts. I order to get a great glide the wax must be absorbed into the base. Racers will wax a pair of skis 10 plus times to maximaize the absorption into the base. Eventually the base is well saturated and the skis get noticibly faster. The only real shortcut I know is to build a hot box. Basically an oven for skis. The temperature has to be just right and you can get maximum wax benefit by letting them cook overnight. You still have to scrape and brush.
I have a question here: If i want to put Swix CH4 green cold wax on my skis, is it a good idea to add a little bit of purple and blue waxes to it so i dont scrape all the green off when i scrape?
it doesnt matter which way you wax its gona get scraped off...but should follow a strait line..or so ive heard...and one question...by using the nylon brush...are the very fine lines visible?
well to clean a ski, you can use a hot wax and scrape it off wen it's still worm, or use a base cleaner liquid... and I would say the best waxs are swix and start
You do that by applying a very soft (high penetrational) wax and while it is in floating form, you have to scrape it off. Repeat this process until there is no dark residue in your scrape off.
After that you can do as shown in the video. Just remember to let the wax cool to room temperature before you scrape it off.
Thanks! Some of the fancy irons have a digital thermometer. You can also use an infrared thermometer to check the iron temp. It should be between 110 centrigrade and 130, depending on the hardness of the wax. The easiest way to tell if the iron is too hot though is if the wax smokes when you apply it. That's a no-no! Better too cool than too hot.

What about using a cork between scraping and brushing? A ski shop told me to do this. Would you recommend doing this?

I find that SOS scrubbers work well if you don't have a brush. They also help get any stray wax off the top sheet.
