  • John Williams is the "MASTER!"

  • The day millions of people died.

  • @dualis777 the ARC-170 didn't become the X-Wing, it was the ancestor of the X-Wing, as the Z-95 Headhunter. The Design of the X-Wing stemmed from the ARC-170 however, they are not the same thing.

  • "Look out!"

  • this is how I imagined how SWTOR got delayed

  • i cant seem to get off the image of the joker flying that x-wing instead of luke!

  • "hey guys look! vader is still floating around in his fighter!"

    "yeah lets blow him up!"

"nah, lets go home and have a drink instead..."

  • 3:12

  • I still wonder why they gave command to a 17 year old kid with no previous experience...

  • @tiblesandbits He wasn't. Red Leader was command, and he was shot down along with all other Reds and Blues save Wedge and Keyan. Luke just led the final run attempt (he has experience with the Skyhopper, very similar to an X-wing-and shooting womp rats), even though Wedge fought for the rebels before him so you can argue Wedge should've been on point. Rescuing Leia and securing the Death Star plans gave him good standing with them right away. Besides, the Force determines events.

  • "Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What's wrong?"

    "Nothing, I'm alright."

".......Then turn the computer back on!!!!"

  • "Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What's wrong?'

"Ah, I keep getting these damn blue screens and pop-up ads."

  • Ah, the original explosion of the death star. I like.

  • This film was made in 1977.

It has more convincing effects than the best CGI of today.

    Explain yourself Hollywood.

  • @Treblaine I should be able to speak for them. Lazyness!!! Star Wars is "arth from adversity"...

  • Comment removed

  • @Treblaine So true, the effects made for this Trilogy and others like Bladerunner, put CGI to shame.

  • three misfits doesn't like!!!

  • imperials are suck!!!

  • Thumbs up if GEK1045 led you here

  • COVER ME PORKINS!

  • 1:33 - 1:40

Proof of Star Wars firepower being LESS than often commented. I hate liars.

  • What the hell is wrong with the voices?

  • "Lost Starsky... Lost Hutch!"

  • I want this....IN 3D!!

    how awesome would that be....

    :D

  • @spikerdude111 just wait til 2015 whe it gets re-released in theatres in 3D

  • @spiderskater3 Another scam I'm not falling for...

  • still gives me shivers when Han comes back

  • lol 2:38 vader: oops, i shoot on my old droid

  • Gosh I love old FX! :D

  • wedge needs to be court marshalled for leaving luke and the battle, i mean, the others stayed till death. so luke should of said to wedge............stay on target!

  • @glynamus If wedge had died, he wouldn't be around to help in 5 or 6. And I wouldn't of seen his happy face at the end of 6 :D

  • @glynamus They stayed to the death? You mean they died before they got a chance.

  • @glynamus technically, luke gave him a direct order, so he would be courtmarshalled for not following it

  • Wait.... Han shot the wingman and not Vader?!

  • Wow, this is the original and not the Special Edition! Awesome! I haven't seen this in ages. Thanks!

  • thank you so much i always loved this part :D

  • @demotto44 the y wing was a force sensitive pilot who has a larger role in the expanded universe.

  • The first guy must be Canadian. Don't pull ooot!

  • Is it me or does every imperial targeting system suck?

  • Always gives me goosebumps... no matter how many times I've seen it.

  • @DarkMario2 seconded

  • lol to anyone over the years who hates on luke: he just blew up like 10000 people and shot a laser rocket down a mile long shaft with no computer! hail the king!

  • Han did SHOOT FIRST!!!

  • Vader - "WAT?!'

Also, this is probably one of the best raw special effects battles... ever. those are all real model space craft. Take that, fancy CGI.

  • why do the voices sound different

  • yes, ALWAYS thrust the voices in your head

  • I've never noticed before (despite being a huge star wars fan) but Wedge's voice changes in each film; in Ep IV he was dubbed by an American actor, in Ep V Dennis Lawson (the actor who plays him) gave him an American accent and then in Ep VI he gives him an accent which could be either American or English!

  • I assume Lucas would have preferred more alien rebel pilots but didn't have the money/technology to create them for the original. With the re-issue, I'm surprised he didn't add some alien pilots to the briefing and the actual trench run. But don't get me wrong - I'm glad he didn't.

  • I like how it takes the Death Star like 10 seconds to fire at Alderaan, but here they press the buttons very slowly and when Luke finally shoots into the exhaust port, they're still "commencing primary ignition."

  • Yes, the Battle of Endor had amazing visuals but this one was always the most intense. I was at the EDGE OF MY SEAT when I was a kid watching this.

  • You know what I like best about this video? It is the ORIGINAL, un-retouched, un-enhanced film from 1977. No 1997 computer graphics, just the original FX we remember from 1977 (or in my case, the re-release from 1979 was when I saw it). I only wish that this version would be included in the Blu-ray set in September.

  • Imagine if Luke had switched off his targeting computer...and missed. He would have got so much shit. "WHY WOULD TURN OF YOUR TARGETING SYSTEM?!?!?!?" "I though I could hit it on my own..." "WHAT THE FUCK!?!?"

  • @DenimSaxPlaya

Um... He wouldn't get any shit since there wouldn't be anyone left to give him shit. Assuming he doesn't get killed/captured (most likely resulting in him becoming Vader's apprentice, just according to keikaku) after the destruction of Yavin 4, the Rebel Alliance is pretty much dead (since they only gained popularity _after_ the Battle of Yavin/showing they pack some punch) and Luke prob'ly wouldn't brag how he accidentally everything.

tl;dr No fecal matter would've changed hands.

  • @Intelus Troll is obvious.

  • I was 10 in 77, I'll never forget seeing this the first time. The entire audience cheered like crazy.

  • "Look out!"

    *Crash*

    *Boom!*

HOW DID HE GET TO BE A PILOT!?

  • @AlexMcPwnr timezone

  • @AlexMcPwnr I guess he should consider himself lucky he didn't survive, dont think Vader would be too happy with him xD

  • The Force will be with you... always.

  • 3:10 WHAT!? lol

  • The thing that's always annoyed me about this scene. Gotta fly down the trench so the targeting computer can get an accurate lock: OK. Switch deflectors on double front to counter gunfire from turrets: OK.Only means of defense is your two buddies getting their butts shot off: not OK. Where the hell is the top cover from the other fighters to ensure that they don't get blown up? This is basic dogfighting strategy, Lucas! Show SOME common sense!

  • @SterlThePearl67 In the Star Wars: X-Wing game, the fighters were programed to fly 2.5 times faster in the trench. The fighters outside of it won't be able to catch up with the ones in the trench.

    However, your point is valid.

Plus, if the Rebels had a 2.5 times speed modification how did the unmodified TIEs catch up with them?

  • We're going in full throttle, Charlie's Angels II

  • Cheetos are hard to open

  • Something which has always bother me. 2 X-Wings = Wedge, Luke; Millenium Falcon = Han, but the Y Wing = ????

  • @demotto44 Sorry for me being a month late, but the Y-Wing was Keyan Farlander, the player character of the game, Star Wars: X-Wing.

  • Great scene, but shame that the EU tries to fuck it up. Did you know that the EU claims that the Death Star gunner actually feels guilty and tries to repent by causing the Death Star to blow up?

  • @commandershadebetter What...?

  • @Thebassjunk True fact bro. That guy who is about to blow up Yavin... he feels guilty and he is hoping that he fucks up the firing procedural so he can accidentally blow up the Death Star if the rebels manage to fail.

  • best. scene. EVER

  • Thank God for the rebels that Vader picked some random pilot that was probably a janitor in a pilot trooper uniform that swerves like crazy as soon as he's shot at. Janitor pilot trooper, hero of the rebellion. Recognized slightly less than Wedge Antilles.

  • The scene with the soft music and Obi Wan telling him to Use the Force gives me shivers every time :D Especially when they cut to the trench, it's so... graceful :o

  • yo luke listen hey listen listen luke hey luke listen use the force listen dont forget yo luke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!11

  • "Let him go, stay on the leader."

Yeah, you have any idea how much trouble Wedge Antilles gave the Empire after that goof Vader?

  • @Berengier817 you know though, I always thought after none of the fighters pursued him, Wedge should have let them pass and then dropped into the trench behind them.

Also, the fighter pilot who knocks into Vader better be glad that he died, or he'd have been in huge trouble.

  • "Luke, you switched off your targeting computer."

"Don't worry, the voices in my head said it's okay!"

  • Thank you for posting the original version.

  • i love it when Han Solo just comes in and gets the best out of Vader

  • 3:17 wtf was that pilot doing?

"Look out, I'ma crash into you Lord Vader, for no apparent reason!"

  • @Vehementi LOL

  • @Vehementi He was looking into space and not where he should have, at his flight leader. Rule number one when flying a tiny laser cannon equipped spaceball fighter down a steel walled trench at ludicrous speed with little or no room to maneuver: Always watch the leader, and whatever he does you do... or end up like that guy :)

  • @Vehementi He must of picked a bad day to quit chewin spice xD

  • Every time I see this, even though I already know what happens, my heart beats so fast that it seems like it will come out of my chest. And every time they blow it up, I jump up and scream "YEEEEEES!"

  • @BGM@?:idT5tyImp6M

  • @BGS@?:vmhh8pSlB-U

  • 3:12 sounds almost comical when you hear it over and over again.

  • BOOYAH! My favorite part of the entire film!

  • princess leia= jailbait=win!

  • is it possble to find the original verisions of star wars without the new computer added stuff? I have the special edition on Vhs, but that has a few tweaks from the original such as "Greedo shot first"

  • @imafiringYOURlazer

There is a good news and a bad news:

The good one is: You can still get the original movies.

The bad one: There are only 2 discs sets with each of the 3 films, containing the original versions (1977, 80, 83) and the versions of 2004

  • This music is awesome. It really builds the tension

I'll never get sick of this. Never ever ever.

    even when I'm dead.

And the sad thing is I haven't got any of the games where you can play through this moment.

well exept lego star wars but that wasn't very epic.

  • @spidey8vader

Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader has it.

And, I agree, LSW's version of this was not very good,

  • @diner59

    thanks

  • @spidey8vader

This music - by John Williams - is the greatest action music ever made.

If you can make a copy of "TIE FIGHTER" or "X-WING" (1995 versions) work on your computer, you will be treated to all of this terrific music,

  • Thanks for the original version of this awesome scene. The special edition's redone SFX are nice and all, but this is the version I watched about 501 times growing up. :D

  • the weird thing about star wars is that the most wanted criminal in the galaxy happens to be black

  • use the FORKS,luke ;)

  • intresting part at: 1:52 - 1:54 and 2:03 - 2:05

  • thank , it's my favourite version.

  • This is without a doubt the greatest moment in cinematic history.

  • 2:38 HEAD BUST!!!

  • Man, I don't think I'll ever out grow this stuff! I love it!

  • This is the Star Wars I grew up with. When I was a kid, we didn't want to be Jedi Knights, we wanted to strap into an X-Wing and blow away TIE's.

  • R2 is da bomb

  • what! -Darth Vader

  • "Now light our darkest hour--oh, wait...hang on...wrong Hasbro franchise...darn, I told them all these Crossovers would get things mixed up."

  • goin in full throt never kept those n1k1's off my ass... LOL

  • Wa-da-tah.

  • It will be just like jizzing on a belly.

  • 1:30 Biggs is just about to crash to the wall of the canyon :D

  • you warerwre abaut those fiters

  • if i was in one of those towers i would have at least shot one down!

  • the X-1's guns would have pulverized R-2

lol 3:34 hey wait, theyre going away. you dont think?... BOOOM!!!

  • "I HAVE YOU NOW!"

That's gotta be one of the most recognized quotes in movie history.

  • @Chev427BB and with todays gas prices not a minute too soon

  • @Chev427BB

    along with..........

    IT'S A TRAP!

  • @Chev427BB I always liked, "Let him go! Stay on the leader!" and "I'm on the leader!"

  • @Chev427BB "WHAAATT?"

  • Another one ;)

  • tarkin became a grand moff for landing a star destroyer on an angry mob :)

  • 3:16 - TIE Pilot fail xD

  • its not the rebelions first victory

in the opening is THE REBELION WON ITS FRST VICTORY AGAINST THE EMPIRE

  • who is the dummy that kept saying stand by. If he didnt say stand Yavin would have been destroyed, but the Death Star would be destroyed too.

  • That's the gunner, who saw the horror of Alderaan and saved the day by delaying as long as he thought he could.

  • He was one of the many unsung heroes of the Galactic Civil War.

  • @sfs2040 ya to bad in the end the Empire! wins :) Second Galactic Empire baby!

  • que pelotudo el darth vader ese

  • I'm curious as to where the Imperial Fleet is during this :P .

  • All around the galaxy, Tarkin was an arrogant fool who thought that he only needed his invincible space-station, that's why he had only a very small (excluding the stations own craft of course) convoy of support-craft (a Nebulon B Frigate and a Corellian Corvette) along in the assault...lore is 5 minutes of wookipedia away!

  • yes, the explosion, it has no shock wave! That's the way it should be, with no added special effects. There are no shock waves in space.

  • Whut?

If anything they are more powerfull because there's no resistance.

  • GRAND MOFF TARKIN - NOOOO!!!

  • One of the most important scenes in film history.

  • "rosebud" "i don't give a damn" "Yah HOO!"

  • red boys rock! you know wat those things really need? rear-view mirrors, seriously.

  • Vader's reaction at 3:12 was hilarious.

  • wedge is a coward lol.

hes like "omfg i have lag, i need to go, i haz been hit lol"

  • rofl.

I dunno Battle of Endor was more badass.

  • First three best> Shred everything after. -UW, This one was my fav in life.

  • isent it verd that some ships is coming and try to destroy the best weapon in the galaxy...AND THEY ONLY SEND 3 IMERIAL SHIPS!!!! lolololo

(if i was vader i shud send like 50 ship lol

  • no not realy 3 fighters were all that fit if you sent more all would have happend would have been crashes.... and it isnt close to the best weapon int he galixy maby att he time but after that there was the galixy gun the sun crusher and thousands of years before that was built there was still centerpoint station so no it isnt the best weapon in the galixy

  • Lol, Tarkin was in command over Vader and thought a bunch of small ships wouldn't do anything and just didn't bother to send out an entire fleet.

  • And also, Wedge got a little hit and was given enough time to run away, but Biggs got destroyed as soon as he was shot at.

  • Luke said Wedge to leave because he was hit, thus he had to slow down his X-wing in order not to blow up immediately. If he slows down he can't serve as a kind of "back shield" to Luke so he left because he was no help.

Biggs was needed as a living shield, like the two others who covered Red Leader's back.

  • I don't think Luke intended for him to be killed, but it was likely...

  • @love2manyamvs and what ever happen to those bullets that were shot at luke right before the millenium falcon hit the tie next to it?

  • Y'know what I dont get? Luke told Wedge to leave, but didnt tell Biggs to leave, and Luke was better friends with Biggs.

  • Friends to the end?

  • Lucas got the idea for the Trench Run sequence from a WWII RAF raid on the Ruhr dams in Nazi Germany.

Watch 'Dambusters a la starwars' on here and you'll see...even the dialogue from both films is similar.

  • umm wasnt the 1st victorous battle when the rebels got a hold of the plans?

  • Weren't the plans just stolen instead of taken by force? So I suppose that wasn't a "battle". Of course I could be wrong :)

  • The plans was stolen by the mercenary Kyle Katarn...he gived them to Princess Leia couse they tought they can avoid trouble with the Imperials this way...you know what camed after that...:/

  • use the force Luke!

  • The force is "an energy field created by all living things, that surrounds and penetrates living beings and binds the galaxy together." :) I don't like the midi-chlorian explanation :P

  • @metallian84 Although no one could use the Force without midi-chlorians.

  • @xtremespeed128 Tell it to Luke :) The whole midi-chlorian bacterial bullshit came with the new trilogy.

  • @metallian84 "The Force is an energy field" doesn't account for the fact that some beings are more powerful than others. That's where midi-chlorian concentration becomes important.

  • @xtremespeed128 Sure, but Lucas didn't have anything like that in mind in the frist round when he wrote the old trilogy. Now you can guess if I like the new trilogy or not :D

  • some kind of stupid bacteria in your blood :/

  • The oldder special effects are always more realistic than the newer ones... Ill never know why...

  • I agree 200% :D

  • they work better because the producers and editors and all that actually worked to get it to work, instead of typing a few commands on a computer and BAM! there's a laser

  • @holymasterchief I just wanna ask: 1. if the technology is that good you just need a few types, then why would it looj less??? rule 1. of technology, id that the more advanved abd easier it makes stuff, the better the quality.2. uh they workd on the CGI for years there is no button that saids, make look good.

  • gold leader was the best (stay on target, stay on target then aaahhhhhhh!r2 u duchey little turd can more power muther bitch

  • A Movie that was very advanced for its time and still stands up very well today

  • Stands up well? This movie is one of the most exciting awesome movies ever made.

  • There are even better older movies but you need to be a little bit older to appreciate them Star War is a fine film but it was based on many other films some of them really old
