  • This really helped =)

  • We have an entire section dedicated to these chins why bother posting this?

  • I have a 5 month old.. thats what i was told.... But hes super scared of me and everything.... I need halllllppP!!!

  • 1 year old is NOT too old to bond with u

  • Is a 1 year old chinchilla to old to bond with owner ? If anyone knows, I would be greatfull to know

  • chinchillas cant get fleas??!!!

  • im getting 2 chinchillas from a man getting shipped to the middle east on wednesday. never been more excited for anything

  • if i were to get a chinchilla, what would i need to do to care for it? i'd love to get one and i need to know when and how to clean it (i get cats a lot, and since they clean themselves, i'm not used to cleaning it), what and when they drink/eat, and other miscellaneous (pardon my spelling) things. if someone could help me i would be very grateful

this video was fucking useless btw

  • @guitar45rocks5 If you want still info you could inbox me if you like :) I wouldn't mind helping. I spoil my chin rotten so I feel pretty clued up on the subject :D

  • @DapperLycanthrope thanks for the offer, but i asked my mom if i could get one and she said no, so theres no point. thx anyways

  • Well he knows slightly more than other "experts". They make great pets, but they take a TON of work. They're needy, and require a special diet and plenty of attention to be happy. Not a good pet for kids since they're not usually a cuddly animal. They like to CHEW, not just "nibble" things. They'll chew anything and everything. The also need a HUGE cage.

  • I've always wanted a chinchilla, but I heard they get sick a lot?

  • @ebonyshadowful yeah. Chinchillas have genetic sicknesses, that cause them to catch a various different types of sicknesses.

  • lol at the end the poor rat almost falls of his hands and dies

  • I personally don't really agree with this guy.. Quote: "..Once you get a calm guy like this, ey... they really turn out to be a nice pet...". Part of a chinchillas' personality is to be active, fast, jumpy, and curious. I am not saying all chinchillas are what I applied, some are like that indeed. It just bugs me, for the fact that he says that if they are calm, they make an excellent pet. Not true, because all chinchillas, no matter what - make great pets. -The Bug Lover

  • i was gonna get one from petsmart but its realy hoppy,i want one that looks like yours, all calm and slow, raptor,i agree,SAVE THE CHINS!

  • @samanthagax22 I can answer one question they don't make that much noise

  • QUESTION: are chinchillas nocturnal or w/e u spell it like sleep in the light party like a rockstar at night? and if they are are they very noisy at night?

  • @samanthagax22 Yes, they do sleep during the day and play at night. They're only noise sometimes when they chew on the bars of their cage. I can admit that I've had to stay in another room because some nights get bad, but if you provide them with tons of wood chew toys, then they won't do that. Good luck!

  • Chinchillas don't like to be petted.... and they do need a very quiet place to live.... thix is as stupid as the Rat-lady -.-

  • lol i got 2 for my 21st lol, they are really cute but they do like to bounce around there cage, and i managed to tame the male enuf for him to just happily sit on my shoulder whille i walk around lol

  • Pikachu?!?!

  • @ChatSpeakofDoom: After a freak electrical accident, yes. It is.

  • at 1:20 he nearly drops it.... I dont think im gonna take advice from this guy

  • @SpitFir3Tornado

aww dont say that. just cuz his handling skills arnt that great doesnt mean the information was incorrect. if he was giving advice on how to hold one then i would be with u all the way though lol

  • My friend has two chinchillas! a male and a female! They are really cute... and their fur is soft as hell!

  • I have a chinchilla, and he is absolutely wonderful. Never had a pet before that's so loving and social. With the proper care, they really are amazing pets. And you really can't ever get tired of them. XD

  • Also, he's actually quite easy to catch. When he gets tired, he actually sits nicely and waits for you to pick him up and put him in. He's a bit spoiled.

  • I have a chinchilla i agree with everything he said there really good pets and odorless. They do nibble on about anything they can find i had a junk cage and my chinchilla chewed his way out of it and went on a crime spree in the house. There super hard to catch if you let them rome free in the house but there pretty great little critter.

  • great chinchilla supplies: do a search for tjschinchillasupplies it won't let me put a lnik in here

  • great chinchilla supplies:

  • chinchillas are so cute, why would someone hurt such a lovable little critter? stupid fur trade!

and where are those lunatics from PeTA when you need them?! they should be bombing the fur sellers who sell actual chin fur!

I have pet chinchillas and they're the most lovable little creatures, they're extremely smart, and they love to play, treat them with love and respect and they'll return the favor.

    SAVE THE CHINS!

  • @RAPTOR948 i can't believe that either i saw this one picture on google showing this dude with all these chinchilla pelts, and i was like, f**k you! they are so cute.

  • yeha it's 100 chinchills to make a coat

  • Thanks for all the great info!

  • i have one

  • OBAMA IS EXOTIC...lol..hes not native to this country

  • @MSChelsey1988 im saying barack obama is really african and not born in america

  • @honnoand000 He was born in Hawaii. And if he wasn't born in America he couldn't have become president.

  • @MSChelsey1988 no he wasnt..he never showed his birth certificate. he payed over $800,000.00 to change rule and not make him have to show his birth certifit as a requirement for him..dude..learn mre politics

  • @honnoand000 You're an idiot.

  • @MSChelsey1988 lol..learn your facts ( thats not one of them)

  • haha he drops it at the end

  • I have a chinchilla and love it to death!!! I did a ton of research on it and got all the info I needed. I have had him for 4 months. I took him down stairs at Easter (everyone came to my house (there was a total of 17 people there)) and everyone got to pet him and a few people held him. I was really surprised he didnt have a heart attack. Anyway he is so sweet. If you are thinking about getting one do your research on it before getting it. After you buy it you wont regret it!

  • I want to get one :) I might get one :)

  • mine is already kinda big but still young. He bonded with me the first time i held him. And he only likes when i hold him. If someone else does then he gets all finicky till i start holding him again. He just loves being babied and cuddled and falling asleep in my arms.

  • i got mine when he was 2 months old from a breeder , i hav a standard grey and a dark ebony but i like urs mor is he a black velvet ? i love ur chin!!!

  • DO THEY STINK?

  • not at all, they are known for not stinking!

  • I have a chinchilla and I got him 4 years ago when he was 5 months old, he bonded with me from the beginning and now he will sit on my lap when I watch TV and he always plays with my 10 month old puppy. Don't worry, my puppy is nice and wouldnt hurt a fly.

  • im a big fan of zookeepers the old owner i was friends with i got my first hedgehog from there and my first pygmy possum there i like them

  • lol he almost dropped it O.O. i love the chinchillas they are incredible.

  • are they good with kids and other pets? And how big should the cage be?

  • I got mine when it was about a year old, so unfortunately it didn't bond with me too well. Still a very cute pet though. I ended up giving it to my cousins because they breed chinchillas.

  • Save THE CHINCHILLA'S .They ARE KILLING CHINCHILLA's for their fur One coat = 200 chinchilla's 10 coats = 2000, 100 coats .... WE MUST MAKE A PETITION THAT FORBIDS KILLING CHINCHILLA'S They are going to be extinct in years!!! Spread to every video you can see to save the chinchilla's.We can Save THe chinchilla's by making the goverment forbid to kill chinchilla's for it's fur because it's going to be extinct in few years.

  • @CruSh3rpz if you ever make that potition put me on that list

  • i breed chinchillas. (:

  • This is for people who want to buy a chinchilla. Chinchillas aree very very cute, but dont only buy 1 because of this! A Chinchilla isnt like a hamster, u dont just feed it, water it, give it treats and opick it up. They need extra special care. Sand baths, bigger cages, they cost a lot more money than smaller pets. Please please please! researche before you think about buying one. ! Thank you!

  • i used to keep a chinchilla in my room, but we had to take her out because she chews on her house and that is so loud, lol

  • ummm yea they sell around.... 150..200...250.... and +++ the cage and food and what ever ... so u will prouble spend around... to maybe 300..400.. or somthing,,i know i wanted one be it is just to much money..hope i could help..

  • Cansomeone please tell me how much these are at like, PetCo or PetSmart?

  • 100 for normal grey, 200 for white n black, dun think they sell em at petsmart....

  • they cost around 100 dollars

  • Only some Petsmarts have them. If you ask sometimes they can order one for you if they don't have any. They are $150. Do your research before buying one though! They have very special needs and will die if not properly cared for. They also live for a VERY long time!! They live 18 to 22 years! Make sure you want a pet that will live that long.

  • petsmart has a bunch of them

  • Shalamae what might have happened is you introduced them too fast you have to keep the new chinchilla in a sperate room for 30 days to make sure its not sick

then put em in another cage in the same room, not close enough for em to hurt each other, after a week or two of that you can put the cages nearer to each other

when the chins sleep on the ledge nearest eachother (which is a friendly sign) and dont seem to bite there bars and act strange you can put them in the same cage.

  • I kept their cage two months next to each other and letting them run on my bed but they didnt get along... I did everything what the man at the pet shop told me to do ,, but my first chinchilla was getting so sick (Jealous) i had to give her away =[ but thanks for the advice i wished they got a long

  • fuck commercial's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fur is so dense fleas cant live in it?!?!

  • ahh i want a chinchilla sooooo bad!

i'm hoping my mom will get me one for my birthdayyy! =]

  • Im hoping someone can help me . i have a chinchilla calypso Aka Chichi and hes great but once i got my other chinchilla pixie rose he was soo jealous and started making these horrible knots in his fur, So i found a home for pixie i was heart broken that i had to give her away but hes still doing it!! how can i get rid of them and how can i make him stop doing that to himself??? I spoil him rotten but i dont know what to do??

  • aww im so sorry hes stressed. i havnt dealed with this myself but maybe try to ignore him a little he could be overwelmed with all the attention

  • Does he have a lot of things to chew one? Sometimes they need a lot of wood to chew on, or let out to exercise at least an hour a day to keep him busy. Also chinchillas shouldn't be fed too many treats one raisin is usually enough as they can put on a lot of weight or it can be detremental to their health.

  • yea i spoil him his has a lot of toys in his cage to play with ... and every chance i get i let him play ... Like when i shower i let him run around in the bathroom if im on the computer i let him take over my queen size bed. so he gets his work out... it started when i get my female chinchilla he just went crazy messing up his coat. I dont have her anymore so i dont know why he keeps doing it... I was thinking of shaving those spots and letting it grow back what do you think???

  • Im not sure what I can suggest to be honest now, i'd check the internet then take him to a vet as he might be suffering from a problem he picked up from the female or perhaphs it might be depression they do tend to suffer badly from emotional problems

  • do you want to know whats so exotic about them there almost extinct becuase of hunters killing 150 chinchillas for 1 stupidass fur coat

  • okay whenever i talk about this i cry for like a half hour but they kill 300 chinchilla not *sniffle* 150

  • I watched the peta video how they kill chinchillas and let me tell you i cried like if someone in my family died.... the anger in me when i watch those things! I can never ever meet those people in person because i will go to jail!

  • I am too scared to even watch it! I cry whenever I hear about fur coats. Really I do. They shoudln't be teated like that! If it were for food it would be different. (I wouldn't eat it though) but for fashion!? that's degusting

  • Dont watch it, it will make you really depressed.... even for food im against a lot of things people do to them . yes we gotta eat but they shouldnt throw 100 chickens in one box or torture the poor animals. i seen documents on that.. its horrible. they should live free and a fast painless kill. but they have sick fucks working at these places and they figure their going to die so why not hurt them ... crazii ppl ... Sometimes loving animals is a curse...

  • im not gonna watch it. just remembering the conditions my chinny was in makes me depressed

  • My teacher learned me.

  • ive been to that store!!

  • I always thought of getting a chinchilla

  • @sweetie4pie i have 2 and love them sometimes they watch t.v or youtube videos

  • in every video this guy says the same thing at the begiingin in the same tone....is he a android?

  • i had a chinchilla, his name was Jake, i loved the little guy but like the guy said they have a VERY specific diet and the LOVE to chew on things. Which is a bad combo. So I let Jake out one night and let him romp around and do his thing and he went under the couch and found a twisty tie from a some kind of packaging and chewed all of the plastic off of it without me knowing. i came home the next night and Jake was dead. that was a pretty shitty day. not to mention they shit like every 5 sec lol

  • Just stop feeding them as much and they will stop pooping. Excellent method.

  • Hes giving us little factfiles, lol.

  • hmmm my chinchilla hates me... =[ ive had him for months and all he seems to do is run away from me and squeak at me all the time any tips?

  • Well, lots of chins dont like getting picked up or petted and such, SOME do but most dont. Dont try to pick your chin up right off the bat, let him get used to his new environemnt first then, take a small ammount of treet, some sugarless shredded shredded wheat or a cherio works well, maybe even a peanut or just even a shell(non salted please ) and give it to him through the bars of his cage. After doing that a few times (over the course of a few days)

  • after doing that for a few days, put the treat in your palm and let him come to it, dont ram it infront of him XD then after a few more days, put on your arm, then further u till hes crawling on you basically. This is how i got my super skiddish black velvet to cozy up to me XD

As a note if you dont know, peanuts or like a raisin are ok once in awhile as a treat, but not every day or even every week.

    Luck

  • my chinchilla can do my laundry..wash dishes..feed the dogs..clean the house...and can sit on my command.

  • wow that was the worst lie ever

  • you're stupid coz you fall for it...dumbass

  • : )

  • exotic pets...

    a bloody chinchilla? XD

  • "They don't make much noise" Yeah right, try telling me that at 4 in the morning when my two are banging around the cage, its not like I mind though, I love them too much.

  • If I got a chinchilla, could I treat it like a cat. In that it does not need to be in a cage and potty train it to use a litter box. Is this possible or foolish?

  • That would be foolish. Chinchillas are very complicated pets. They are a rodent and they don't cuddle or come when called. Among a myriad of other things that could go wrong.

They are great pets though. I love mine.

  • my chinchilla comes to me when i call her

  • I was refering more to come when called like a dog and you can't treat them like a cat/dog and let them roam the house.

  • O_o my chinchilla knew his name and came when called... Your idea isnt foolish DotXhacker, but its hard to acomplish, you have to really screen the chinchillas you look at for personality, dont just buy the first cutie you see. only one of my 5 chin's would qualify for what you want. Some are natrually more skiddish. also they are more delicate than cats, you would still want to put them in there cage when you arnt watching them as they can get into wires or trouble otherwise.

  • Lotsa people dont seem to get that chins are just like people in the sense that they all have different personalities and likes and dislikes. MY black velvet girl was so skiddish and go go go where my super beige boy was totally relaxed and cuddley XD

  • foolish he will bite threw wires and get into trouble.. but you can cuddle with them ... their not like ferrets if thats what you think. they need to be in a cage unless you have a special chinchilla room for him. and if you get them young you can teach them tricks they have books on that to teach you!

  • have u guys made a vid bout that animal with really big eyes? i forgot the name

  • bush baby

  • Sugar gliders.

  • i want a damn chincilla!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ohhjunk28 LMAO

  • @ohhjunk28 im getting one for my birthday

  • one thing i love about chinchillas is their personality....it shows really well....i work at petsmart and we get chinchillas in all the time...they're great pets....

  • my friend has a chinchilla named Chippy

  • I would very much love to have a chinchilla before 2010 so I was wondering if u could help. i have a dog and 2 birds would they do any harm. My dog is very quiet when i was 9 he was afraid of my hamster. my birds are kinda chirpy but they are parakeetsmy parents do not want one at all but i think with alittle research and compassion they will have to give in at least by october dont ya think I was wondering if you know any places where I can purchase one near long island new york or close.

  • all i say as long as your parents let you leave the ac on in the summer then great! and your willing to have a animal that lives as long as a dog ... their great pets youll love them .. but they do get pricey and make sure when you do get one their a babyyy and sweettt.... you can go to pet land thats where i got my chinchilla around 240 i paid for mine ... and if you dont find one in long island i got my chinchilla in main street flushing pet land ..

  • I'd suggest making sure you find a vet that is good with exotic pets before getting a chinchilla. Also keep in mind that plastic and avacadoes are toxic to them, they can't handle sugars very well, and limit the raisin treats to about 2 at a time and no more than once a day.

  • im getting a chinny for christmas, i hope my female doesnt pee on me , do they do it alot?

  • Can a 4yr old be around a Chinchilla???

  • I'd keep an eye on the kid if he was handling the pet at his/her age he's probably better off with a cat incase he drops it the cat will most likely not get hurt!My cat loves to be held and jumps out of my arms and is always perfectly fine :D

  • I work in a petstore and currently the two chinchillas we have are like my new best friends. For me they're like the perfect pet. If I didn't have the birds I'd get one in a heart beat.

  • why about the birds? Cause I have 2 parakeets and was hoping to get a chinchilla... O.O

  • 5 white doves, a dog, a cat and a Ball python is enough for me.

  • oh ok XD

  • oh my gosh i got 2 female chinchillas today and im not sure if they will bond with me because they are afew montsh old!!!

  • Just be patient, don't try to startle or chase after them. Spend time with them every day, speaking quietly to them so they get used to the sound of your voice. Let them come to you by holding out your hand and letting them sniff you to get your scent. Pretty soon, they will not only get acclimated to you, they will look forward to seeing you every day.

  • um its tru that fleas cant live in a chins fur but i found a dead flea in mine but generally if u want a furry no flea pet a chin is ur best bet

  • chinchillas my favorite pet and im not a big pet person

  • some chinchillas just dont like being held. others thrive on it. females are the only ones who spray as the males do not have the right body parts or aim. they talk alot in my opinion (i own four) and they will bark when scared or have bad dreams. getting them wet is bad. mould can grow in their fur and sometimes they will not dry out right and get sick. my chins have huge cages with levels but a large rabbit cage is fine as long as you play with your chin alot

  • I'm a vet in Canada and I see exotics.

Chins a very good pets if they're life style suits yours. They're nocturnal so they make noise at night. Don't disturb it durin the day. You can't pet it for a very long time but they're so cute. They need a lot of space. Much more than a rabbit. They have a special diet wich include fresh vegetables. Well, you need to be well informed before buying one.

  • i want em yeah

  • actually the do make noise. alot of noise but they are sooo cute

  • my chinchilla never lets me hold it!

  • You really have to be extremely careful giving raisins as treats because they have sensitive little stomachs. Two per day would be the most I'd give. However, cheerios and unfrosted shredded wheat make AWESOME treats and mine ADORE them!!! :)

  • i watch my friend trying to catch her chin back to the cage. And it pee on her. Is that normal?

  • it shows that the chin is scared of her. try a different aproach

  • well is it a female because somtimes female chinchillas spray pee

  • Yes their fur is sooooo dense when i first touched my chin i was like WTF is this an animal?

  • they can also live for 15 years!!

  • is their fur REALY so dense that fleas cant live in it?

  • he mentiond ferrets but not that chims don't smell like ferrets.....a big plus over ferrets in my opinion

  • mine sometimes makes a weird noise like a dogs chew toy..can ne1 tell me if thats normal or not?

  • Chinchillas can be extremely vocal creatures. When does he make those noises? My little guy barks sometimes, and other times when he's irate, he'll squeak at me (it sorta sounds like a dog's chew toy) I usually have to leave him alone. He's a great little guy though and I love him dearly

  • he makes the sound like out of no where..I'm starting to think that its when he knows hes alone for a long time because he makes the noise while hes in the dust bath place, and in his wooden hideout... so i usually just pick him up and start petting him and he stop automatically

  • Hmm. How long have you had him? Chinchillas are extremely smart too. It might be his way of telling you he wants attention. My little guy will hop on top of his water bottle and stare at me when he wants out. He does all sorts of things. How often do you let him out daily?

  • i let him out everyday

  • I let mine out twice a day and he loves to be held. In a.m., I put him in his X-large critter ball and he can get exercise and runs around the house. Then he rides on my shoulder while I get ready for work. In pm,if I don't get him out of his cage by 10:00 he gives me the hairy eye until I get him out. I hold/play with him before I go to bed. He is soooo luvvy and loves to play. I only have one, so he has really bonded to me - plus I give him alot of attention.

  • rescue chinchillas need homes too, please consider a rescue chin - they can be just as sweet as buying from being a baby

  • I was rescued :)

  • im from australia . how can i get one ??? where do they live anyways..? im getting bored with my kangaroos... and koalas. anyways thax

  • In response to this mans commentary and that of viewers:

1.Chins can be quiet, but they are nocturnal so if they have a wheel to run on, it can get noisy at night.

2.Raisins, at best, are a grey area. Sugar is bad, but many breeders and owners have safe results as long as the raisins are rationed.

3.Older, adopted chins can be just as good or better than younger ones, being that they tend to be calmer in their age. Personality is very individual, nonetheless.

  • Aside from being incomplete, the only incorrect thing was about raisins! sugar is very bad for them!

  • user jglaser333 has a far more informative video on chinchilla care. please check it out!

  • I'm glad to see any and all videos on chinchilla care. Thank you

  • this was not a helpful video. chinchillas require a lot of special care and it DOES get expensive. these beautiful creatures ARE NOT for everyone!

  • you're an idiot.

  • I wish I had 1

  • very cute, i don't know why this didn't get any comments! I'm getting to chinchillas next weekend, a standard gray and a light beige. They are much sweeter from a breeder than a store because they have more human contact.
