As a qualified Scuba Diver myself, both my buddy and myself have never have had a slipped cylinder but have seen plenty. The cylinder Cam Band should be checked in the initial BWRAF check under the Releases or the Air check. As this is a Discover Scuba lesson, I guess the Instructor could see that there was "No Disaster" and rather drag the whole class out the water, and correct the Cam Band, decided to carry on...
I agree its the number of students that is a valid reasons for suspension, its clearly in the manual 4 DSD participants to 1 instructor, even that is too many if you are cautious.
I think it's important to have a good handle as an instructor doing try scuba, I'm working on becoming an instructor, and people are either going to love scuba, or have a bitter taste in their mouth after try scuba experiences. This makes me cringe.

The so called "disaster" is the scuba tank being loose. I seriously doubt PADI suspended anyone over this. Seriously, give me a break, this happens more time than you can count. I've had it happen plenty with rental BC's and aluminum tanks with no covers.
For those that don't scuba. This happens because the straps should be wet first to allow them to stretch (tank strap). Newer BC's help this a lot as does tank sheaths.
If you don't know how to secure a tank without a cover, maybe you should take a dive course (again?). About the suspension - send me a personal message and I'll send you his name and company so you could check with PADI in UK yourself.
Don't comment to me telling me I need another dive course fool. I watch about 40 students a month, from pool to ocean. I deal with 100's of BC's and have more than enough actual knowledge on the subject. I see this often due to one dive shop still using old BC rentals. At best, you learn to pick your words better, especially before insulting others.
As for the title goes... Oversight? Negligence? Stupidity even, maybe, but disaster? Hardly anything remotely close to a disaster.
And also, when you deal with as many students as I DO, there are tons of things you may see but hardly think that means I myself have that issue. You would flunk right away from just your idiotic, smug attitude. Yet another person in the world that knows all, go figure. Learn to read, then learn to spell. As for me PM'ing you, why? Do you need me to PM you to get the ability to list the info? Can you not just click my name then message me? Should I teach you youtube & scuba? And manners?
@Danbo342 Calm down. What is the problem? I named a video on youtube wrong, or that I can't spell what?
The word disaster I got from the guy at PADI office I sent the video to, therefore I used that name on the net. If my spelling is bad or I express myself clumsy or rude, it could come from the fact that english is not my native language.
I didn't have to tell you to get a course. Sorry for that.
I tried to PM you the name of the instructor in the video...
...instructor in the video but I got an error from Youtube. But since you are a instructor yourself you should be able to find the suspension of the guy without more info than his first name is Mansour and it was in Jordan. I don't want to write more in public. He is if, I am informed right, back in business again after his suspension.
Disaster or not. Do you think it is a good Discover SCUBA?
Sorry also. I mainly was upset that stating a fact that happens all the time would mean that I need to take a course, but anyway, apology accepted. As for "Do I think this is good Discover Scuba?". I would say that it's common in any scuba, whether it be Discover (which is more like intro) or an advanced course. Common or not, it's also common that the instructor correct the problem, or better yet, the Dive Master (assistant in most cases). Someone should have stopped and fixed it, yes.
@Graome "A disaster is a natural or man-made hazard that has come to fruition, resulting in an event of substantial extent causing significant physical damage or destruction, loss of life, or drastic change to the environment." What this guy made the students do to the reef seems to fit this definition of man-made disaster.
The tank issue is a pretty big deal and the instructor should have fixed it. Although, how could he have noticed it while trying to get everyone to hold hands and have his camera floating in front of his face. He should have never had that camera with him with divers like that. All his attention should have been placed on the students. Now on to the real disaster... This looks to be an open water dive with 5 DSD students. The max ratio is 4 per instructor. Violation of standards
@sgl308 Actually with this discover scuba the ratio should be 1 instructor per 1 student. The instructor controls buoyancy of the student's BCD. Because this instructor had two many students he couldn't even correct the loose tank. This was indeed a disaster waiting to happen. I hope he was suspended and retrained.
@f64se maybe cause he didn´t actually notice and fixed the problem? *shrug* I still think it was more that man fault, you ALWAYS have to check your equipment first.
@dirtykittyme I don't know if you you noticed that it is a Discover SCUBA. If you were a instructor you would know why this is a disaster. I can agree that there are different grades of disasters in the world, and this isn't one of the worst.
1. what is the standard violation you refer to, the guy has a full set of equipment, so the tank came loose, how is this a violation of PADI standards.
2. if you want to find a violation then during any training program they should all have snorkels.
3. how can you prove this was a PADI sanctioned program.

@f64se seriously? this was no disaster, first the tank is off, sure but it´s so obvious that this was a video of how NOT to wear the equipment lol you really don´t know scuba diving do you?
@dirtykittyme No probably not. I'm just a idiot with a camera. But maybe you should talk to PADI and ask why they suspended the instructor in the video after they saw this. Or do you think that they don't know scuba diving ether?
@nadia12398 All I saw was a bunch of idiots trampling the reef including pieces of live coral while they silted up the water. That is the only real disaster. All you dorks arguing over equipment are a joke.
Shocking. And scary. And kinda funny. Clearly the instructor is a fool and these guys were not ready to be here. Looks pretty shallow so I trust nobody was hurt.
ture OKJM40 but there are good dive stories and videos on the net also. Try the myscubastory site. Type myscubastory into google and its the first one
beside just not being secured, depending on what kind of tank that was, doesnt the fact that it was floating indicate that there was little air left in it?
@aqualandroy , a tank can slip out so wouldn't call that a disaster - maybe an oversight... disaster is having "6" students with "1" instructor which is above any standard and there also appears to be a child in the group...
looks a lot safer than the discover scubas i've done. lol. they literally told us how to do it all on the way to the dive site and just had us meet them on the bottom at 25'. haha. i'm certified now, but even before i knew that was a bad idea.
yes mizmaringirl5 but there also good dive stories to be found on the net - try the myscubastory site ... type myscubastory into google - its the first one i think
First off - great color and clarity in the video.
Second - I was expecting a super epic fail, like something exploding, but it was just the tank being loose.
Third - The actual violations if you are counting is mainly the student to instructor ratio which should be 4:1 maximum. Any more and it is hard if not IMPOSSIBLE to control, which is why this guy had such a hard time. It is his fault for taking out so many students at once, period. But the students were not in any real danger.
Pfff...Not the first time I see this and not the last time..unfortunately it is not PADI, it is the the center puttuing pressure on under paid instructors...
It comes down to the <instructor..a pitty PADI doesnt do much about it.
I trained at this shcool, everything looks ok. Linked hands to make sure you don't loose each other and it's standard practice not to strap an "out of test" cylinder to your back in case it blows .
@mauscuba I'm not that old! Yeh, I was kinda joking, the main problem was the supply of 'o' rings from the local plumbing shop, they leaked and blew all the time as you can see on the students 1st stage on the right.
@SuperTrooper9000 I thought by "out of test" you meant -hydrostatic test failed- and by "in case it blows" you meant in case the tank actually exploding underwater!! I highly disagree with using a unstrapped tank at all, if the problem is a potential o-ring blow, you address the problem. If the o-ring problem can't be resolved, you just don't use that tank PERIOD. Minimizing the underwater stress in students minds is what it should be "standard practice" At least that is how I teach.
@mauscuba Chill out man, all the 'O' rings were the same i.e. made for central heating units. They were OK for a few weeks and then bang, all you do is follow procedure and get your buddies to help you, that's why you have a buddy, silly. Get trained and you'll know what to do!
Glad he was suspended...but for how long. At least one month per violation.
The blatant ones were, taking pictures with students, having more then the standards say, (only 4 dsd students per instructor) and failure to secure the guys tank as well as not secure it and not notice it? So how about 5 months? Be curious to know how long his suspension was.
It's so sad to see an instructor like this! After spending lots of time and money on dive education to act under the name of PADI professional like this and putting people's life in the great amount of risk like that! Thanks to you who sent it to PADI, but it is not really nice to use the site content of PADI and mix it with this sad video and make fun from those PADI members who really take care about the Standards and Safety of their student divers.
It is clear why the instructor should be suspended!
Anybody noticed anything abnormal about the tank of the middle diver (the bauld guy) - like not having the tank secured????????????!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it normal? Of course not! What if the tank would not have had the security system on and would become detached together with stage II - the detentor?
ok guys.. everyone relax.. this is part of the IDC(Instructor Development Course) program, this is shown as an example of what not to do in the "prescriptive" part of the program. This is shot using dive profesionals in a controlled enviroment for teaching purposes only, as a dive professional i can appreciate everyone's concern over this video but this is a good example of incorrect information run rampant.
@neme7272 You are both right and wrong. Very wrong in fact.
Now it is an example of what not to do. At least PADI Egypt uses it in some IDC. Maybe in other countries as well. But you are wrong in how it was shot. I shot the video myself in the Red Sea last november. It is in no way staged. If you do not believe me you can check with PADI in UK (they handle Middle East) or in Sweden. They both got the original video from me. The instructor in the video got suspended by the way.
@f64se ok...congratulations your videos(this is not the only one with these exact same people) are being used all over the world on what blaring mistakes are made in recreational diving. I stand corrected.
@neme7272 "this is not the only one with these exact same people". ???
What do you mean? I saw and shot this in Aqaba at at discover scuba. (I was there to film a nearby wreck and saw it on my way up.) I sent it t to PADI and put it on the net. The instructor (Mansour) got suspended. Some PADI instructors use the video as an example. That's all.
If you have another video with "these exact same people" please show me. Give me a link. Give me some proof.
1 instructor for 6 persons who dive for the first time !!! This is a joke. We can see all of them struggling to move. As in many decent club the instructor goes during 20mn minimum with a single person holding one of his hand and the top of the bottle from the over. This give much better feeling to the diver who can fully enjoy the vue too.
What's all your problems? Nobody was hurt. The guy still had his tank. It came undone and nobody noticed until probably later on at some point. Get a freakin life. PADI is not God. Just another company pretending to be God and collecting your money. We have enough big brother types out there already. There are a few basic rules to learn in diving, and you don't need any professional associations separating you from your wallet as middle men. I'm sick of hearing about this company's problems.
Hi, it's true he is suspended, but don't think anything has changed, he is still working and taking divers in the same way as you can see in the video. So suspended or not....nobody is safe in this dive center.
If I see how many people don't know what's wrong with this dive indicates how lucky you are if you end up in the hands of a really good professional divingschool and not with this one.
Everything is wrong with this dive. People could have been hurt or even killed. As a Padi Pro this gives me the creeps.
Whats going on here??? Is this a joke or is this a "Can you find what is wrong in this dive"!!!! the gear on the divers don't fit and on one guy his gear is not even secured.!!! What going on?
Its still being promoted while a guy for some reason has a tank floating round. Maybe just maybe he was allowed to enter the water with the kit in this state. LOL "most participants realized how not to dive" "safe and fun" (when ya cylinder is straped to ya back" Anyways gotta get back to making me vid from sundays dive. Have fun arguing :)
Quite a confusing vid lol? I am a PADI diver and was trained in the uk and live in the uk and thats where I do all me dives (have dived in another country) I have joined a BSAC club. I went up to rescue with PADI and find the training very good have not done any training with BSAC but find that from the first course they want to teach safe diving like rescue skills and nitrox where as PADI are very money orientated. Anyway back to the video witch cracked me up
OMG look at that guys alloy tank, not even strapped to his bc and the kid on the right. His gear wasn't even suited properly. How can one learn and enjoy scuba if he hasn't been suited properly. Seriously, all that shows just how slack the instructor is. I would dive with you. You'd probably get me killed!
I saw the title and I was expecting to see someone rocket to the surface (even though the depth is pretty shallow) or have a mask equalization issue. True, that dangling tank is pretty ridiculous to allow, along with all the other issues present in the video, but I don't think those issues were threatening anyone's life. Aside from that, I'm curious to know which enclosure he is using for his 5DMII.
I see you discusseing about straps, wight, swimming technich... ALL of that doen´t matter since the beggining. If this "instructor" is a real padi instructor, he is doing all wrong from the beggining, because he cant take 6 discover scuba divers to open water. Standar limits states 4 scuba divers, NO MORE than that.

Oh dear, heaven save us from wannabe divers posting nonsense on the net! If you think this sort of thing doesn't happen on a regular basis at resorts around the world then you need a check-up from the neck-up. Sadly this happens a lot and I salute the filmer/poster for highlighting what really does go on. Its worth keeping in mind that too many PADI (and other agency) instructors should really not be allowed outside of a kiddy pool, they are an embarassement to the good ones.
Just to let everyone know that the instructor conducting this disaster has been suspended from PADI after their investigation because of this video.... WELL DONE Henrik
Jeez I think this guy bought his Instructor qualification off Ebay. He is a total plank!! He should be named and shamed. So should the outfit he works for......grrrr. I would be surprised if he hasn't been responsible for some serious diving accidents if this is his style of teaching.
I agree with TomasPersson67. f64se wouldn't fake a video like this. And definitely not to denigrate PADI like a 14 year old. It's just plain stupid just to make such a comment. And trying to move in on a group of DSD and start pulling their tank bands would just make bad things worse. I'm sure PADI will act on this joker of a pro. Good that these students survived. How about the next group he brings on? Thanks for sharing this video f64s.
For you guys that believe that this is a fake. f64se is one of Sweden's most renowned UW-photographers and there is no way on earth that he would stage this. I personally know that he has been discussing this issue with PADI and that they are investigating this.
Why the f*ck would he stage something like this? If you swam in the beautiful Red Sea with a camera; would you stage some bullsh*t about PADI or would you concentrate on the wonderful scenary?
This is an epic fail... you over did it, just what are you trying to proof? Waaaay too many stupid situtions here, gathered in one dive? Some of them, like the strap shoulder I think are impossible to happen unless on purpose. Also how come you documented everything without helping or at least signaling the "instructor" that something's wrong? Even if you were just passing...geez.
Strap shoulder? I can't see what you mean. And again - no it is not a fake. A am a photographer and I am not trying to prove anything. To stage something like this would take a lot of work. Why should I do that?
I agree that this is at the very least staged. besides what has been posted, a group of divers happen by, just wave and go on?! Not any that I've met or dive with. We're a pretty friendly group and in most cases will help out another diver. I personally can't see any diver just letting a hanging tank go without at least a "look at your tank." Name names and Dive Center if real. BTW, I've forwarded this to PADI International. I'm sure they will want to talk to you aboput libel/slander
Good. Tell your contact at PADI to speak to PADI Sweden. They know about this, have seen the video and will get it in full HD resolution from me next week. I now have the name of the dive center and hope to get the instructors name soon. I will not write it here in public, but PADI gets all the info direct from me. If your contact at PADI wants to speak to me, he can look me up in their register. My PADI pro member id is 72137. Even if i am not active anymore, they have my address and number.
The guide who was with me at the dive pointed out the loose tank to the instructor. He didn't do anything about it. If you should forward it to PADI - do it to PADI in UK. They shold handle it.
The person in the video could be claiming to be a PADI instructor but is not. He could be an instructor who was banned. He could be a guy with some scuba gear who took an Open Water course and decided to pretend he was a PADI instructor. Or this could be a hoax.
Maybe you are a NAUI scuba diver who is bitter than Ralph Erickson started with NAUI then left to co-found PADI and this video was staged to make PADI look bad.
I find it difficult to believe ANY professional scuba diver could be this bad. The fact that you are vague about who this person is seems suspicious to me. Why not post the instructor's name or the dive center name? You are happy to point out he is a PADI instructor but offer no real proof. I have never seen any instructor this bad. If I saw this you would be guaranteed I would report him to the agency he claims to represent.
1) tank being loose like that - it is hard to believe ANY instructor would just let that go (and if the videographer was indeed a certified assistant, it is real easy to call it the videographers fault as easy as it was the primary instructors)
2) check out the fins... no two pairs are the same... its hard to believe everyone doing the DSD brought their own fins and another quick note - they are all open heel fins... it is more common for dive centers in warm areas to rent full foot fins as it cuts down on cost big time
3) check out the masks - again, no two are the same, very uncommon for DSDers...
4) there is at least one thing wrong with every one of them from their left to right, we have a) severely overweighted b) cummerbund loose / waist strap not tied c) tank loose d) not paying attention to instructor e) breathing off of octo f) left shoulder completely out of shoulder strap
5) the first person (A) sometimes forgets to bicycle kick and actually has good form (for being that overweighted), then goes back to bicycle kicking
6) the one that appears to be breathing off an octo may indeed be breathing off their primary, but its just yellow, which would mean they probably have an airsource/air2/octo inflator on their BCD... this would definitely not happen with rental gear, and I highly highly doubt a DSD has their own BCD/regulator...
@mitsuguy you are a numpty pal. You argue the toss when it has already been stated that this is a factual event and that the so-called instructor has been pulled by PADI. Go back to your ballroom dancing and leave diving to divers!
My fault? I only met the group at the end of a dive at King Abdallas Tank. I later showed the film to the staff at "my" dive center, and they Identifyed the guy in the film. He is a PADI instructor who lives and works in Aqaba. What scares me more than the video itself is that nobody at my dive center was surprised.
I only said that if you were the assistant that you would be at fault... I still believe this to be completely fabricated... many things that are wrong would have to PURPOSELY be done incorrectly - the far girls shoulder is completely out of her BCD - you can't do that on accident. also, and this probably condemns it more than anything is that the closest girl starts off bicycle kicking, goes to a nice flutter kick, then all of a sudden, back to bicycle kicking, almost as if it were on purpose
I dont think her shoulder is out of her BCD, it looks more like a severly oversized BCD for her size. The closest girl only looks like she goes to a flutter kick when she gets dragged behind a bit which makes kicking easier. But would be easy with proper buoyance training.
@mitsuguy you show how little you know about diving. Ther are flutter kicks to be seen, everything in that video screams 'NOVICE' - sadly, even the instructors behaviour.
@ButtsontheBarbie Please watch it again... the diver that is closest to the camera when the video starts switches back and forth from flutter kicks to bicycle kicking... And I might just know a little about diving... And if that is the only thing you can pick on that I mentioned, then you are an idiot....
seriously - that scares me - wrong equipment, euipment wrong attached, too many people in one group, destroying the corals .... wtf?!?! Don't choose the cheapest scuba base, choose a GOOD one. This instructor did a terrible job !
OMG what a scary movie!!! Hope they "discover scuba" in a gravel pit next time and not next to (still) living corals.... May I recommend the scuba "instructor" get's a new job to guide people through a desert instead? yuck.....
That's not safe. I'm a certified diver of 12 and fixed a tank slip of my dads in 30 feet. That should have been tightened in BWRAF!!

1. what is the standard violation you refer to, the guy has a full set of equipment, so the tank came loose, how is this a violation of PADI standards.
2. if you want to find a violation then during any training program they should all have snorkels.
3. how can you prove this was a PADI sanctioned program.

@ssvcraig You should ask these questions to PADI (UK). They suspended the instructor after this. I think (and hope) that he is back on track now.
f64se 8 months ago
@f64se seriously? this was no disaster, first the tank is off, sure but it´s so obvious that this was a video of how NOT to wear the equipment lol you really don´t know scuba diving do you?
dirtykittyme 7 months ago
@dirtykittyme No probably not. I'm just a idiot with a camera. But maybe you should talk to PADI and ask why they suspended the instructor in the video after they saw this. Or do you think that they don't know scuba diving ether?

beside just not being secured, depending on what kind of tank that was, doesnt the fact that it was floating indicate that there was little air left in it?

There are way too many divers for just one instructor.
That is typical large commercial dive center behavior. Its stupid and dangerous.

the disaster is the scuba tank out of the BC belts..

@aqualandroy , a tank can slip out so wouldn't call that a disaster - maybe an oversight... disaster is having "6" students with "1" instructor which is above any standard and there also appears to be a child in the group...

WTF WAS THE DISASTER?!
jackpwnage117 11 months ago
First off - great color and clarity in the video.
Second - I was expecting a super epic fail, like something exploding, but it was just the tank being loose.
Third - The actual violations if you are counting is mainly the student to instructor ratio which should be 4:1 maximum. Any more and it is hard if not IMPOSSIBLE to control, which is why this guy had such a hard time. It is his fault for taking out so many students at once, period. But the students were not in any real danger.

I trained at this shcool, everything looks ok. Linked hands to make sure you don't loose each other and it's standard practice not to strap an "out of test" cylinder to your back in case it blows .
SuperTrooper9000 1 year ago
@SuperTrooper9000 Not to strap an out of test tank in case it blows a "Standard practice"?? WTF??? do you live in 1952?? Hope you are joking.
mauscuba 1 year ago
@mauscuba I'm not that old! Yeh, I was kinda joking, the main problem was the supply of 'o' rings from the local plumbing shop, they leaked and blew all the time as you can see on the students 1st stage on the right.
SuperTrooper9000 1 year ago
@SuperTrooper9000 I thought by "out of test" you meant -hydrostatic test failed- and by "in case it blows" you meant in case the tank actually exploding underwater!! I highly disagree with using a unstrapped tank at all, if the problem is a potential o-ring blow, you address the problem. If the o-ring problem can't be resolved, you just don't use that tank PERIOD. Minimizing the underwater stress in students minds is what it should be "standard practice" At least that is how I teach.
mauscuba 1 year ago
@mauscuba Chill out man, all the 'O' rings were the same i.e. made for central heating units. They were OK for a few weeks and then bang, all you do is follow procedure and get your buddies to help you, that's why you have a buddy, silly. Get trained and you'll know what to do!
SuperTrooper9000 1 year ago

Glad he was suspended...but for how long. At least one month per violation.
The blatant ones were, taking pictures with students, having more then the standards say, (only 4 dsd students per instructor) and failure to secure the guys tank as well as not secure it and not notice it? So how about 5 months? Be curious to know how long his suspension was.

It's so sad to see an instructor like this! After spending lots of time and money on dive education to act under the name of PADI professional like this and putting people's life in the great amount of risk like that! Thanks to you who sent it to PADI, but it is not really nice to use the site content of PADI and mix it with this sad video and make fun from those PADI members who really take care about the Standards and Safety of their student divers.

ok guys.. everyone relax.. this is part of the IDC(Instructor Development Course) program, this is shown as an example of what not to do in the "prescriptive" part of the program. This is shot using dive profesionals in a controlled enviroment for teaching purposes only, as a dive professional i can appreciate everyone's concern over this video but this is a good example of incorrect information run rampant.
neme7272 1 year ago 10
@neme7272 You are both right and wrong. Very wrong in fact.
Now it is an example of what not to do. At least PADI Egypt uses it in some IDC. Maybe in other countries as well. But you are wrong in how it was shot. I shot the video myself in the Red Sea last november. It is in no way staged. If you do not believe me you can check with PADI in UK (they handle Middle East) or in Sweden. They both got the original video from me. The instructor in the video got suspended by the way.
f64se 1 year ago
@f64se ok...congratulations your videos(this is not the only one with these exact same people) are being used all over the world on what blaring mistakes are made in recreational diving. I stand corrected.

Just another company pretending to be God and collecting your money. We have enough big brother types out there already. There are a few basic rules to learn in diving, and you don't need any professional associations separating you from your wallet as middle men. I'm sick of hearing about this company's problems.

I saw the title and I was expecting to see someone rocket to the surface (even though the depth is pretty shallow) or have a mask equalization issue.

DiveMazter 2 years ago 4
Right.
TomasPersson67 2 years ago 5
@TomasPersson67 f64se should have at least tried to inform the instructor that this was wrong (in so many levels) instead of filming
DadiangasFish 1 year ago
This is an epic fail... you over did it, just what are you trying to proof? Waaaay too many stupid situtions here, gathered in one dive? Some of them, like the strap shoulder I think are impossible to happen unless on purpose. Also how come you documented everything without helping or at least signaling the "instructor" that something's wrong? Even if you were just passing...geez.
AlacargamiROCKANROLL 2 years ago
Strap shoulder? I can't see what you mean. And again - no it is not a fake. A am a photographer and I am not trying to prove anything. To stage something like this would take a lot of work. Why should I do that?
f64se 2 years ago
I agree that this is at the very least staged. besides what has been posted, a group of divers happen by, just wave and go on?! Not any that I've met or dive with. We're a pretty friendly group and in most cases will help out another diver. I personally can't see any diver just letting a hanging tank go without at least a "look at your tank." Name names and Dive Center if real. BTW, I've forwarded this to PADI International. I'm sure they will want to talk to you aboput libel/slander
MICT135 2 years ago
@MICT135 PADI International is already investigating the situation.
purist69 2 years ago
Even if i am not active anymore, they have my address and number.
f64se 2 years ago
The guide who was with me at the dive pointed out the loose tank to the instructor. He didn't do anything about it. If you should forward it to PADI - do it to PADI in UK. They shold handle it.
f64se 2 years ago
The person in the video could be claiming to be a PADI instructor but is not. He could be an instructor who was banned. He could be a guy with some scuba gear who took an Open Water course and decided to pretend he was a PADI instructor. Or this could be a hoax.
Maybe you are a NAUI scuba diver who is bitter than Ralph Erickson started with NAUI then left to co-found PADI and this video was staged to make PADI look bad.
purist69 2 years ago
I find it difficult to believe ANY professional scuba diver could be this bad. The fact that you are vague about who this person is seems suspicious to me. Why not post the instructor's name or the dive center name? You are happy to point out he is a PADI instructor but offer no real proof. I have never seen any instructor this bad. If I saw this you would be guaranteed I would report him to the agency he claims to represent.
purist69 2 years ago
couple things make me believe this was staged...
1) tank being loose like that - it is hard to believe ANY instructor would just let that go (and if the videographer was indeed a certified assistant, it is real easy to call it the videographers fault as easy as it was the primary instructors)
mitsuguy 2 years ago
2) check out the fins... no two pairs are the same... its hard to believe everyone doing the DSD brought their own fins and another quick note - they are all open heel fins... it is more common for dive centers in warm areas to rent full foot fins as it cuts down on cost big time
3) check out the masks - again, no two are the same, very uncommon for DSDers...
mitsuguy 2 years ago
4) there is at least one thing wrong with every one of them from their left to right, we have a) severely overweighted b) cummerbund loose / waist strap not tied c) tank loose d) not paying attention to instructor e) breathing off of octo f) left shoulder completely out of shoulder strap
5) the first person (A) sometimes forgets to bicycle kick and actually has good form (for being that overweighted), then goes back to bicycle kicking
mitsuguy 2 years ago
6) the one that appears to be breathing off an octo may indeed be breathing off their primary, but its just yellow, which would mean they probably have an airsource/air2/octo inflator on their BCD... this would definitely not happen with rental gear, and I highly highly doubt a DSD has their own BCD/regulator...
mitsuguy 2 years ago
@mitsuguy you are a numpty pal. You argue the toss when it has already been stated that this is a factual event and that the so-called instructor has been pulled by PADI. Go back to your ballroom dancing and leave diving to divers!
ButtsontheBarbie 1 year ago
My fault? I only met the group at the end of a dive at King Abdallas Tank. I later showed the film to the staff at "my" dive center, and they Identifyed the guy in the film. He is a PADI instructor who lives and works in Aqaba. What scares me more than the video itself is that nobody at my dive center was surprised.
f64se 2 years ago
I only said that if you were the assistant that you would be at fault... I still believe this to be completely fabricated... many things that are wrong would have to PURPOSELY be done incorrectly - the far girls shoulder is completely out of her BCD - you can't do that on accident. also, and this probably condemns it more than anything is that the closest girl starts off bicycle kicking, goes to a nice flutter kick, then all of a sudden, back to bicycle kicking, almost as if it were on purpose
mitsuguy 2 years ago
I dont think her shoulder is out of her BCD, it looks more like a severly oversized BCD for her size. The closest girl only looks like she goes to a flutter kick when she gets dragged behind a bit which makes kicking easier. But would be easy with proper buoyance training.
LasBrisas1979 2 years ago
@mitsuguy you show how little you know about diving. Ther are flutter kicks to be seen, everything in that video screams 'NOVICE' - sadly, even the instructors behaviour.
ButtsontheBarbie 1 year ago
@ButtsontheBarbie Please watch it again... the diver that is closest to the camera when the video starts switches back and forth from flutter kicks to bicycle kicking... And I might just know a little about diving... And if that is the only thing you can pick on that I mentioned, then you are an idiot....
