Come on....you all remember how nice and exiting this was the first time you had a computer, you know what the problem is, just because we got windows 7 and new games, doesnt mean it makes us feel better, ore more exiting, infact, windows xp is way faster, windows 7 looks like a gallery, not a system, there is more colors in 7 than in a house, eh....by the way windows 98 was slow but i think its adorable hello..! i grew up in the 90s, i dint miss anything
I was just a kid when I heard this MIDI rendition of Bach. Oh my were pre-95 memories of Windows glorious, especially with the hype of classic CD-ROM games like The 7th Guest (though it was DOS), and Broderbund/Randomhouse Living Books CD-ROMS. Those were the days.
If I remember right, I downloaded it before; and it told me that my operating system is not supported. I should probably check again on what they have again.
The DOSBox Team actually managed to get the OPL FM Synthesis emulation right . Just how the hell did Microsoft ( ...or whoever the fuck programmed the sound emulation) get it so wrong in that aspect with Virtual PC.
thanks i finally got a emulated SB 16 YM OPL3 FM working on Dos Box i use a simple .bat program MIDIer i can now listen to my MIDI files in RETRO SB 16 YM OPL3 Synthesis thanks man!
Nostalgia!!!

Well that's sure a... classic one! I had maybe 10 years that I didn't listen to it! That was really great! Thanks for the uploading!

Did you ever use Virtual Box before? I can never get it to boot an OS up.
GrounderTheDumbbot 2 years ago
No, i've only used Virtual PC, DOSBox & VMWare.

I'm pretty sure it works with XP Home, if that's what you mean. I managed to install it on XP Home and it works. Ignore that message.
BTW, there is one flaw with VPC. The SB16 MIDI emulation is god awful, it sounds nothing like the original.
SonicTheJackrabbit 2 years ago
yeah, i've heard what it sounds like, a complete mess with no proper timing of the notes and "mouse trap" snare drums!

it makes you wonder eh? and it seems 8 bit yet comes up as "SB16"
BTW, any chance you could do that tune from Windows 98 that sounds a bit like XP's flourish, along with flourish itself, onestop and town?
check out my video of me playing passport, canyon, town and onestop on my cellphone :-)

@SonicTheJackrabbit Well, some use of MIDI on DOSBox uses the newer wavetables native to the host OS.

@ShadowDaGeek well, one thing to know is that sometimes DOSBox interprets MIDI with the decoder of modern hardware.
