He could be tossing each of them in in a different way to spread them around so they will mix better when spun.

Its impossible for the corner to have been bent by just hitting the side, it wasn't thrown in hard enough, and it does not appear significantly bent upon being tossed in.  It was likely bent when the other cards fell on top of it in the drum as it was spinning.

There are easier, more foolproof ways of rigging this than bending a corner, such as two team placards in each envelope.
