If I had to have only one gun, it would be a 357 Magnum revolver, along with two Lee Loaders, one in 38 special and one in 357 Magnum. Add several Lee bullet molds in various weights and nose configurations, plus a huge stockpile of powder, primers and cases. .22's ain't reloadable and THAT is the problem in having them as the only gun.

I'd go with a 6" barrel. As my only gun the .357 will have to be a rifle sometimes, & the 6" 357 is the ONE handgun that can stay on a paper plate to 200 yds

gotta agree. If i only had one gun. It'd be either a heritadge rough ryder with interchangable 22 lr and 22 mag. cyllinders, or a nice old pump action 12 gauge.

Shotguns are rather versatile. A slug turns it into a medium-long range rifle, and buckshot turns it into a close-range killer.

Also, rifled shotguns are more accurate with slugs.

If I could only have one gun, it'd have to be an AR-15. With a change of the upper, it can go from a 5.56 carbine to a 6.8 marksman rifle, drop in an adapter and I can plink or hunt small game with .22lr, or I can go hog wild and get one of the numerous .50 BMG uppers, or even make it a muzzle-loader!

I was a PO for 15 years and learned my 870 inside and out. Beat it up and trained with it and it always performed excellent. I own a Beretta 1201FP semi auto 12 ga., HK 91- 7.62 NATO, Socom II -7.62 NATO, AR15- 5.56, Mini 14. I also own numerous hunting rifles /shotguns - Winchester, Ithaca, Mossberg, etc. If shit hit the fan and I could only grab one weapon it'd be my 870 Express, nuthin fancy beaded sight, extended magazine. Shotgun is versatile, bird / buck shot, bean bag, flare, sabot.

one gun huh? already got it my SKS. there is damn near nothing you can do to stop it from firing, and it runs 7.62X39 which you can find anywhere and everyhere you would need a gun. plus with is wood stock and bayonnet I can take it to my target old school if needs be. (I also gather its a pretty good zombie stopper LOL)

Doop, I too like the sks, but we would have a hard time being quiet in a survival situation and would damn near obliterate small game. A 22(shot placement is important) can bring down almost any animal in N.A. (head shots at close range) 2.00 for a box of 50 rounds is nice!

worst thing I ever did to cause my SKS to jam up was to give it a thorough cleaning and light oil. Since then I just wipe it down a bit when it gets dirty enough to cause me to get dirty when I touch it...LOL WORKS FINE NOW!!!

Very tough call, since handguns & long guns have very different advantages.

Limited to TWO, it'd be a .357 revolver (probably Ruger) and a 12-gauge (hopefully with a lot of different kinds of ammo).

Only one? Probably the .357 ... but that 12-gauge slider is far more versatile and you can hunt with it better if food is an issue.

Might depend on what kind of emergency we're talking about. Defending the home in civil disturbance: 12-gauge. Walking about, though: .357.

No one gun does it all.

another point, probably addressed somewhere else by him, was that .22lr is also the cheapest ammo, which means you can practice about 10x as much as any other ammo. Practice is god.

not quite true today. 20 years ago that was a pretty standard gunlaw in europe, but many countries have pulled away from it since.

still is a bitch to get the licenses and stuff, but overall it aint too bad in most european countries. not to mention some are downright awesome, like Finland (suppressors without paperwork) or Switzerland (government supplied assault rifles to take home for everyone in the reserves).

AK-47 aren't that hard to obtain,but like you said,if you have the right connections,a standard AK-47 is about $150 US dollars,but thats usually on the underground,they can go way past 1.5k which is outrageous seeing that they are cheap to produce,in high demand,and ususally reliable.
