I think Johnny Depp is a great actor, but I don't like the silly/funny dynamic that he brings to every damn character that he plays lately. It just doesn't work for me.

I feel like he could be good for this role, because the mad hatter is supposed to be crazy, but I'd rather see him play it crazy...not goofy like his role in Charlie&the Chocolate Factory.

well actually this version tim burton is making is not going to be like the disney film adaptation because he is adding elements from the original book alice's adventures in wonderland and the sequel through the looking glass which are amazing, the book version is quite more mature than the disney adaptation, i dont think this movie will be a total disaster just because its tim burton (a genius director) and the fact that hes using the book instead of the disney version

Furthermore, Wonka and Alice are stories that existed far before the cutsie movies that displayed them to the public. These stories (as well as OZ) were meant to be creepy, shocking, and dark. I am very glad that at least Burton has the courage to re-submit them to the public in a way that far better represents the darker versions that they have such potential to become!

You nay-sayers are looking at this the wrong way! Depp was only a weird Wonka cause the original character was played so differenly! We were all expecting another Gene Wilder which Burton was avoiding - at which he suceeded.

You all have to remember that Tim Burton has his own way of doing these types of movies. His choices for actors are always interesting, and always work out in the end. If Burton thinks Depp will make a good Hatter, then chances are, he will be awesome! I can't wait!
