  • Billie Holiday transcends me into that era as if I lived it. So smooth! I love playing this tune on a Sunday morning, windows open with a cool breeze, coffee brewing and Sunday NY Times in hand. Doesn't get any better than that.

  • Awwww man,.. her voice ..her voice is soooooo yummy .. So delicious , so super scrumptious ... I'll have a Billie Holiday prease... Extra lemon. ; )

  • This is such a beautiful video and what a great song xxx

  • Im glad i wasnt born in this era because it wasnt shit.Good songs dont make a good life and billie was still seen as a nigger and wasnt allowed in certain places. In this movie she had about three scenes with lines but they cut that out and just left her singing. They rather hear us blacks than see us back then and( NOW also)times kinda chnaged im glad we not in that era But im glad Billie was born and im glad we are blessed to see/hear her through youtube. She could have been lost and never heard

  • @HERBLANDZ Yeah, well, that's like... your opinion man.

  • @RoxasSmiles No its not an opinion its american history.I state facts not opinions but good thing i wasnt talkin u.and ill say it again im glad we are not in this era cause there were "whites only" signs or maybe the pictures of all that i just an opinion too.her struggle is what african americans appreciate her for besides her music because she became a star at the time when a black woman wasnt considered Stars her star still shined. Its in OUR HISTORY,these are FACTS so like FUCK oFF .

  • it( thesands777) has no point... Billie was awesome and will always be loved or her remarkable voice.

  • OH YEA

  • "With few exceptions, every major pop singer in the US during her generation has been touched in some way by her genius. It is Billie Holiday who was, and still remains, the greatest single musical influence on me." - Frank Sinatra

  • Beautiful voice, Beautiful woman. Such a tragic end to her life..

  • wished i lived at that time im in to every thing from the 50,s and 40,s

  • She had *the style* in her songs..When I think Billie Holiday..I think Blues and Jazz personified ...Thank you for sharing a rare video with us..

  • Billie and Sachmo! awesome!

  • You sound sick. Billie Holiday and the rest are all great singers

  • Wanna be Black.

  • Afro-American people gave America their cultural heritage. This is America's culture at it's finest.

  • @reygood1 amen to that.

  • My mom always said to me that she believed I was born in the wrong era lol, from the movies I love, to the music, I'm not your ordinary 26 year old.

  • @eloiseful haha im 16 and i get it a lot too!!!

  • Amy Winehouse has left us just like this lady did, so sad.

  • yeah whats funny is white people loved jazz and loved black people if they played an instrument but seemed to forget their manners outside of the jazz clubs

  • Check her history, it's really pitiful but her music is just, simply beautiful !!

  • she was so pretty

  • love this time, where music was truly felt and just beautiful no matter the lyrics.

  • Whenever I watch this in my opinion very best part of the movie, I get angry when you hear the sound of the train right in the middle of the song. I mean this was so unnecessary...

  • Lesson and note to self : Louis Armstrong was always in the moment of the music, and it always comes across in recordings.

  • sweettttttttttttttt

  • mmmmm

  • back in the time where black musicians were decent not like rappers or bitchy pop princesses

  • @dapithapon that's ignorant...

  • TWO GIANTS OF THE MUSIC! LOVE THEM!

  • Blues as in blue balls

  • All day Saturday l t listened to her songs and I had it as a shower of coins from the sky, fill my palms to my happiness.

Always and forever her singing will be stored and sung from my heart too.

  • Always and forever, Billie Holiday's singing A l i v e!

A wonderfulTreasure of music to keep in heart.

All day Saturday I listened to her , as if

  • I remember when I was a little girl growing up in NY our neighbor always played her songs and I use to go over and listen to them with her, I was the only little white girl there but I felt so at home and I loved the music.

  • I would love to play that song on guitar... does anyone know the chords?

  • Great! im 20 years old and i love it

  • She was so Beautiful..............

  • The Mexican Arturo de Cordova is in this video 1:13, yeah.

  • i done wrong doe real wrong

  • ... The VoiCe of My LiFe

  • simply angelic.

  • Only if we could be in those kind of time periods would be the best thing that happens to me. Blues and Billie = GOOD COMBINATION

  • I just can't stop playin this track...I'm totally hooked on some classic blues...just had to

download this song it's truly smooth..you go Billie

  • Beautiful voice

  • I sure as fuck was born in the wrong era.

  • @SuperJenb13

Don't feel bad! There are many musical treasures like this one on the Net. You can also check out your local city library or others such as archives in musical schools, colleges and record companies for re-issues. I too was once told; " I was born in the wrong generation" because of my attraction to the music of the 40's & 50's by these great artists.

  • @SuperJenb13 What if you were born back then and never had the chance to actually see her perform? I'm glad I live in a time where I can listen to as much as I can from her at any time really. She got so much shit from people touring that she would have to constantly back out of playing shows or contemplate not touring at all. Some things are way better now but then again some things haven't changed. All I am saying is, I'm glad I get to experience her whole career.

  • @SuperJenb13 I'm glad I wasn't born in that era melanin and that that time period equals misery hence alot of great singer and musicians were junkies

  • @SuperJenb13 I love the music, the style and the mannerisms, but I don't think I could do the high level racism.. other than that, I'd have to quote you " I sure as f**k was born in the wrong era."

  • @SuperJenb13 I know. this generation sucks

  • @SuperJenb13

Well, I sure as fuck was born in the right era. I wouldn't trade being a black man born after the Civil Rights era for all the good music in the world.

  • @SuperJenb13 Hey.. at least we could enjoy her beautiful voice here on youtube anytime of the day!

  • @SuperJenb13 and wrong side of the globe

  • @SuperJenb13 I'm guessing you're not black :P ;)

  • @SuperJenb13 you must be white.

  • Whoa, I thought I was lost in the Waste Land for a second there.

  • anyone got the chords of that song?

  • billi holiday anos 50 é de mais

  • Love the way she lifts her eyebrow with the lyric at 1:26 :-)

  • @Streamline09 Woah! How did she do that? Her and Bessie Smith were superheroes! I swear!

  • Luv the old footage. Thanx. What matters is that Billie Holiday could not only sing jazz well, but she felt what she sang so she was able to pass on the feeling to listeners. I wish people would stop talking trash and speculation about a dead woman (a jazz great) when they weren't in her circle of family and friends. Geesh !

  • She just reaches in and touches my soul,,wonderful,

  • Billie Holiday's voice really freaks me out! Her voice is terrific! I like the faces that Louis Armstrong makes in this video, very funny!

  • She is amazing.. i dont care if she was prostitute or have drugs problem-Whitney Houston had it, I dont see how that change someones influence and status in industry.. Billie Holiday is legend and things like that cannot touch her importance as artists and her musical status..Thats Lady Day!!!

  • my anthem right now *sigh*

  • Comment removed

  • to sing and play the blues one must have hard times to express the blueness!

  • i have some satchmo on vinyl but i never seen footage of him hes got some swag

  • Happy birthday, Lady Day. Your voice will live forever!

  • Two of the most important human beings to ever grace the Earth.

  • Louis Armstrong has the greatest face ever.

    Fact.

  • @storchcom

LOL I'm watching this video again because I was so fascinated by his smile and personality in this video. Very magical. Billy Holiday is also amazing here.

  • Good old music!!!

    Lady Day, Forever!

  • I <3 this so much... I love Billie Holiday :)

  • Billy and Satch........... Heaven's memories!

  • Bravo!

  • its an atrocity that the editors of this film placed train track noises over the great voice of billie holiday. never interrupt billie.

  • pure amazing

  • Billie Holiday ! I can only listen ! She was fantastic to whom has sensibility.

  • God, love it!

  • JUST IMAGE THE PAINS AND SUFFERING OF THE BLACKS IN DOES DAYS.!!.

THATS WHY I WHEN I HEAR HER MUSIC IT MAKES ME WANNA CRY, I CAN FEEL HER PAINS THROUGH HER VOICE.

NOW ANDAYS PEOPLE JUST LIKE SOULJA BOY IS DOING SHIT!!!! THE WORLD IS SO SHIT NOW!

  • The entire world doesn't have as much class as Lady Day had in her left foot.

  • Tracy Morgan could portray louie armstrong'a life story, he would have to take the role seriously

  • @iwritethemsongs I said the same thing....I believe he is the right person to do the Louis Armstrong story.

  • This is before Blacks integrated with the evil cultureless whites and ruined their beautiful culture. No wonder other groups stay int heir ethnic enclaves and dont even assimilate all the way.Even certain white groups (especially italians) seperate themselves from the white anglo general population and maintain culture.

Nothing good comes outta integrating with whites , blacks made a huge mistake

  • Reverse racism is very sad. Why is it that as a white woman, I can feel proud and happy for blacks that were able to stand up for what was right and have great success. Are you one of those people that can't forgive us for the sins of our forefathers? Get over it already. Jesus! Culture doesn't mean ethnicity!

  • @missyann99 What was racist about anything I said?

All i said was that integration with whites ,in part, contributed to the regression of many blacks within American society

    Nothing racist

  • @missyann99 blacks are not racists some just feel hurt and when you hurt you want to hurt someone......yes the forefathers did great harm to people of color in America....but you can't forgive when racism still exists with the descendants and is incorporated into instutionalized racism...you can't blame dead ancestors for today's wrongs...that is why some blacks can't forgive.

  • @BlacknesUnforgivable Wow, really? When I hear music such as this I can't help but to be grateful of the contributions Billie, and so many others, have made to the world. While you're entitled to your opinion, and I respect that, it's sad to think that someone thinks something this beautiful has anything to do with race. Her voice was/is a gift for all races to enjoy and quite frankly helped bring about the integration you seem to hate. In that case she is someone you must hate along with

  • Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Wonder et al. because they helped unify people through music. All are/were strong, proud black people. They also all made/make beautiful music and help make the world a better place by doing so. Music is only a race issue when people make it so which is ignorant to me. When I close my eyes and listen to music like this I can't see the color of her skin. However,I do feel the passion in her soul.

  • @BlacknesUnforgivable U make it out like it's EVIL to be white...or to be mixed with white..or to even conversate with white people....you sound very racist...so i guess blacks can be racist..unlike what that one person said where "Blacks aren't racist they just need time to forgive." Shut -up and get over it all ready...i can't belive listening to billie hoilday became a race issue....

  • @xosaralove72

"i can't belive listening to billie hoilday became a race issue" Why cant you? After all , you whites love to come to these videos and paint a romantic portrait of these era's , apparently forgetting the barbaric treatment blacks like Billie faced at the hands of your people.

Btw , all i said was that blacks made a grave mistake integrating with whites

nothing racist about it , sorry.

  • @BlacknesUnforgivable so iv'e checked out your profile, and a few comments on this post...and i could go on with you for hours, and try to explain some things to you,not just about racism but about life itself...but somehow i feel in your case it is pointless...sir i truly feel sorry for you and your ignorant life...

  • @johnydeltablues If you say so

  • @BlacknesUnforgivable Separatism is an utopia (maybe even a dystopia..have a look at the situation in Israel/Palestine). Let's not forget that Malcolm X was not followed by that many people. Most blacks wanted equality, not separatism. Sometimes you have to struggle for what is realistic and stop considering whites who weren't even born at the time of slavery as evil. I can understand your bitterness (my people is stll persecuted today) but I don't think this is the way.

  • louis armstrong and billie holiday..

    WHAT A PAIR ;D

  • This is what good music is all about!

  • wow... cool... armstrong with holiday. I tried notto read any opinions down here and saw on and of course it is RACE. Quit the black - white crap! what happend to ONE NANTION UNDER A GROOVE! so much progress was made in the 70's so don't mess it up. OR IS IT TOO LATE. Everyone has an uncle or parent that spouts old crap and keeps stinking dogs stinkin. Quit kicking the dead horse. Our kids need to get used to not thinking about color but it isn't happening when races have crutches&myths oldbeef

  • okay, so who was the random white guy @ 1:07?

  • 1:24 = most seductive look ever recorded on film!

  • I love his face when she starts singing. What a great song

  • You crazy bitch... AHHHHHHH......... Like this album..just downloaded it from downloadmusic.im

  • One of my favourite Billie songs. The video with LA is really classic. Thanks

  • i dont like it sry

  • Billie's eyebrow moving is just killin' me softly!!!

  • absolutely gorgeous woman!!!!

  • i love her~

  • billie hollday was beautiful love u billie holiday

  • @batalion666 Hey we've all derived from monkeys... of course people like have stuck closer to the framework than most

(I'm calling you an ape, just in case you're too muh of a dumbass to pick it up)

  • I love the expression in her face!

  • those 45 people who dislike this are most likely on drugs

  • @AllEars13 Drugs ain't got nothing to do with the idiots that dislike this. Billie Holiday herself was an addict yet she could still make music like this. At least till they got the better of her in the end.

  • awsome louis and billy :)

  • This was the woman who defined the entire genre of the Blues (just as Ella epitomized Swing, Aretha defined Soul and Ms Sarah Vaughn pure musical genius). There's a reason why her music will live on for generations!

  • PPl better hope that one day we don't ever go back to being slaves and abused because it won't just be blacks it will be ppl that are poor meaning all of us so becareful what comes out of yo mouth!!!!

  • @sampenny100 what the sam hill are you smoking son

  • Man I wish music today was more like this.

  • TO PALACE OF DANCE

    SPOKANE

    WASHINGTON

Now that's a cool sticker to have.

  • que hace Arturo de Cordova aqui?

  • you gotta love amstrongs smile ;)

  • i just love lady day, i will have to sing this song!

  • How can you dislike this?!

  • so what if she ever worked as a prostitute...she did what she had to do at the time, i dont imagine it was easy being an african-american woman in those days...besides, you dont judge a person by one period in life, you have to look at the big picture.

  • @deavatiascunselea it's not your business to judge anyway. If you like the music listen, if you don't, don't listen. Whether or not you like the music should have nothing to do with what your opinions are regarding the musician's life.

  • @deavatiascunselea Very Nicely put, thank you, Billie took enough abuse in life, lets honor her in death

  • alto livello

  • Love Billie. Although she was a hooker not to mention her terrible heroin habit!

  • @peacefulblonde39

so you're peacefull, blonde, 39, not a hooker, do not have a terrible heroine habit. But you sing better????

  • @emsterdemshe yes, yes, no, yes, yes and no! I did not say I say better oh and you forgot the " love Billie "

  • @emsterdemshe yes, yes, no, yes, yes and no! I did not say I say better oh and you forgot the " love Billie "

  • @emsterdemshe yes, yes, no, yes, yes and no! I did not say I could sing better oh and you forgot the " love Billie "

  • Billie Holiday's singing is okay. But when I watch her, oh my God, her sexual magnetism is supreme. Blessed are those who got to be in bed with her.

  • It simply doesn't get any better than this!! Thanks for posting.

  • Mew ,essa mulher canta muitoooo!

  • I'm 24 and I'd never think I'd fall in love with someone while listening to this lady and satchmo... Some might say these guys have lost their influence but here's a tip... as long as love for music is in the air, there will always be someone to recatch the feeling and bring these stars back to life...

thank you peagahariy for this lovely video

  • nice billie

  • its always a good day for lady day

  • Bellisimo, muchisimas gracias.
