Black White Yellow Blue we are alluman beings don`t bring it into music we are all equal as far as the good book goes, (I`m not religous just being logic)
Billie Holiday transcends me into that era as if I lived it. So smooth! I love playing this tune on a Sunday morning, windows open with a cool breeze, coffee brewing and Sunday NY Times in hand. Doesn't get any better than that.
Im glad i wasnt born in this era because it wasnt shit.Good songs dont make a good life and billie was still seen as a nigger and wasnt allowed in certain places. In this movie she had about three scenes with lines but they cut that out and just left her singing. They rather hear us blacks than see us back then and( NOW also)times kinda chnaged im glad we not in that era But im glad Billie was born and im glad we are blessed to see/hear her through youtube. She could have been lost and never heard
@RoxasSmiles No its not an opinion its american history.I state facts not opinions but good thing i wasnt talkin u.and ill say it again im glad we are not in this era cause there were "whites only" signs or maybe the pictures of all that i just an opinion too.her struggle is what african americans appreciate her for besides her music because she became a star at the time when a black woman wasnt considered Stars her star still shined. Its in OUR HISTORY,these are FACTS so like FUCK oFF .
"With few exceptions, every major pop singer in the US during her generation has been touched in some way by her genius. It is Billie Holiday who was, and still remains, the greatest single musical influence on me." - Frank Sinatra
yeah whats funny is white people loved jazz and loved black people if they played an instrument but seemed to forget their manners outside of the jazz clubs
Whenever I watch this in my opinion very best part of the movie, I get angry when you hear the sound of the train right in the middle of the song. I mean this was so unnecessary...
I remember when I was a little girl growing up in NY our neighbor always played her songs and I use to go over and listen to them with her, I was the only little white girl there but I felt so at home and I loved the music.
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
Don't feel bad! There are many musical treasures like this one on the Net. You can also check out your local city library or others such as archives in musical schools, colleges and record companies for re-issues. I too was once told; " I was born in the wrong generation" because of my attraction to the music of the 40's & 50's by these great artists.
@SuperJenb13 What if you were born back then and never had the chance to actually see her perform? I'm glad I live in a time where I can listen to as much as I can from her at any time really. She got so much shit from people touring that she would have to constantly back out of playing shows or contemplate not touring at all. Some things are way better now but then again some things haven't changed. All I am saying is, I'm glad I get to experience her whole career.
@SuperJenb13 I love the music, the style and the mannerisms, but I don't think I could do the high level racism.. other than that, I'd have to quote you " I sure as f**k was born in the wrong era."
Well, I sure as fuck was born in the right era. I wouldn't trade being a black man born after the Civil Rights era for all the good music in the world.
Luv the old footage. Thanx. What matters is that Billie Holiday could not only sing jazz well, but she felt what she sang so she was able to pass on the feeling to listeners. I wish people would stop talking trash and speculation about a dead woman (a jazz great) when they weren't in her circle of family and friends. Geesh !
She is amazing.. i dont care if she was prostitute or have drugs problem-Whitney Houston had it, I dont see how that change someones influence and status in industry.. Billie Holiday is legend and things like that cannot touch her importance as artists and her musical status..Thats Lady Day!!!
LOL I'm watching this video again because I was so fascinated by his smile and personality in this video. Very magical. Billy Holiday is also amazing here.
Hey I'm a young artist, and I really would like everybody to check out my original ballad on my channel entitled "Why Can't I Live in Your Heart." It's a quiet storm ballad that sounds sounds like a cross between Boyz II Men's "End of the Road," Mariah Carey's "Can't Let Go," and Vanessa Williams' "Save the Best for Last."

@BlacknesUnforgivable Wow, really? When I hear music such as this I can't help but to be grateful of the contributions Billie, and so many others, have made to the world. While you're entitled to your opinion, and I respect that, it's sad to think that someone thinks something this beautiful has anything to do with race. Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Wonder et al. because they helped unify people through music. All are/were strong, proud black people. They also all made/make beautiful music and help make the world a better place by doing so. wow... cool... armstrong with holiday. I tried notto read any opinions down here and saw on and of course it is RACE. Quit the black - white crap! what happend to ONE NANTION UNDER A GROOVE! so much progress was made in the 70's so don't mess it up. OR IS IT TOO LATE. Everyone has an uncle or parent that spouts old crap and keeps stinking dogs stinkin. Quit kicking the dead horse. Our kids need to get used to not thinking about color but it isn't happening when races have crutches&myths oldbeef

This woman is a shit-skin, from the African monkey race. Even god colored them the color of poo poo so that they'd be more easily identifiable when committing their hideous nigger crimes.
Billie Holiday on the end of a nice thick rope, aw yeah.
@AllEars13 Drugs ain't got nothing to do with the idiots that dislike this. Billie Holiday herself was an addict yet she could still make music like this. At least till they got the better of her in the end.
This was the woman who defined the entire genre of the Blues (just as Ella epitomized Swing, Aretha defined Soul and Ms Sarah Vaughn pure musical genius). There's a reason why her music will live on for generations!
PPl better hope that one day we don't ever go back to being slaves and abused because it won't just be blacks it will be ppl that are poor meaning all of us so becareful what comes out of yo mouth!!!!
so what if she ever worked as a prostitute...she did what she had to do at the time, i dont imagine it was easy being an african-american woman in those days...besides, you dont judge a person by one period in life, you have to look at the big picture.
@deavatiascunselea it's not your business to judge anyway. If you like the music listen, if you don't, don't listen. Whether or not you like the music should have nothing to do with what your opinions are regarding the musician's life.
I'm 24 and I'd never think I'd fall in love with someone while listening to this lady and satchmo... Some might say these guys have lost their influence but here's a tip... as long as love for music is in the air, there will always be someone to recatch the feeling and bring these stars back to life...

wow... cool... armstrong with holiday.

Billie Holiday on the end of a nice thick rope, aw yeah.

those 45 people who dislike this are most likely on drugs
AllEars13 1 year ago
@AllEars13 Drugs ain't got nothing to do with the idiots that dislike this. Billie Holiday herself was an addict yet she could still make music like this. At least till they got the better of her in the end.

This was the woman who defined the entire genre of the Blues (just as Ella epitomized Swing, Aretha defined Soul and Ms Sarah Vaughn pure musical genius). There's a reason why her music will live on for generations!

so what if she ever worked as a prostitute...she did what she had to do at the time, i dont imagine it was easy being an african-american woman in those days...besides, you dont judge a person by one period in life, you have to look at the big picture.
deavatiascunselea 1 year ago 46
@deavatiascunselea it's not your business to judge anyway. If you like the music listen, if you don't, don't listen. Whether or not you like the music should have nothing to do with what your opinions are regarding the musician's life.

@deavatiascunselea Very Nicely put, thank you, Billie took enough abuse in life, lets honor her in death

Billie Holiday's singing is okay. But when I watch her, oh my God, her sexual magnetism is supreme. Blessed are those who got to be in bed with her.

I'm 24 and I'd never think I'd fall in love with someone while listening to this lady and satchmo... Some might say these guys have lost their influence but here's a tip... as long as love for music is in the air, there will always be someone to recatch the feeling and bring these stars back to life...
thank you peagahariy for this lovely video
