  • @TheDrakenZ There is a guitarist (pause at 1:25) but he looks like he's not sure what's going on. :)

  • This man was a great performer. He did the moon walk before Michael Jackson was even a thought in his parent's eyes. He swung blues and jazz like da Vinci slapped paint onto canvas.

  • cab and his band were so fucking stoned in this video

  • @tommygoodkin Probably not.

  • this guy had more sex than the xvideos, redtube, youporn and pornotube together.

  • @xjimmyx3 Haha.

  • koji car covece

  • VH1 is old as hell..... Cab Calloway had original Swag.

  • Cab's got tone

  • Cab Calloway stava fatto come na pigna...

  • Princess, I'm glad you like this. It means you have an open mind to all styles of music, and appreciate American music history. We have an amazing history.

You know what breaks my heart? Knowing there are obnoxious jerks who can't stop offending the Black American community every chance they can. This is awesome music, and I don't like the racist remarks about music, and especially about the music.

The racists ruin many things for the rest of us.

  • I love this version, but I think this song sounds better when Cab gets older.

  • my social studies teacher showed me this nd i love this guy!!!

  • @NeRdxGaMiiNG same here!

  • im 13 and constantly bugged for liking this kind of music dont know why this is better tha the crap of today

  • @TheLinemaniac Eh, It's okay, there's nothing wrong with the younger generation to like this type of music! I know I don't! ^^

  • i appreciate the energy and enthusiasm calloway and his orchestra put into this. the passion definitely shined through. :D

  • Cheap edit. Don't mess with the classics!

  • @ipt09 its a good old nigger song? But yet more white people like it and listen to it than blacks? Hyymm? So i guess you're a nigger yourself then? Dumbfuck

  • This was so awesome it just melted my face off

  • Ugh why was it cut at parts?

  • That´s art!! One of the biggest Jazz and Blues legends.

  • This video's all kinds of fucked up. It cuts off a lot. What happened to the original video? It used to be on YouTube, but now it's gone. :l

  • @TEHBR00TZ i thought it was just me!

  • he looked like a Chinese Jewish Cat. I love this Chinese Jewish Cat.

  • what year was this?

  • @1Italianno 31

  • Classic!!!!!!!!

  • The late great New Orleans musician Danny Barker

    Daniel Danny Moses Barker

    January 13, 1909 March 13, 1994

    R.I.P.

  • Better by Hugh Laurie, imo

  • christ i hope you are jokin or are you kickin the gong around

  • this vid is freakin' amazing...........

  • ah...now this is music

  • standard!

  • Now this is what I call jazz. Smooth, but with a sassy attitude.

    Great stuff, Cab

  • The memory and spirit of Cab lives on. Long live Cab!!!

  • "she messed arond with a bloke named SMOKEY.even though he was COKEY!,he took her down to china town and showed her how to kick that (OPIUM) gong around"!!!!!then...she had a dream about the king of sweden (REFERENCE TO HEROINE USAGE)! i love this song, how did they get away with recording songs about hard drugs? lol.

  • Don't be so bitter man. This is art, Cab was a great performer. There were in all the times and everywhere singers who added some comedy to their shows, white and Black. Chaplin was white and british for instance. Art has no color.

Cab is a great american artist.

  • Very true man. Im a young man (17) who loves the sound of jazz. I know the problems blacks faced, but I feel music had only brought people together. I listen to any thing from Glenn Miller to The Lonious Monk. Art has no color

  • I'm not bitter. The artistry is great. I'm just stating' the facts. ain't no Chaplin had to eat his food in the kitchen, come in through the back door. his only option of enjoyment WAS the performance.

  • haha he looks stoned

  • lol Cab Calloway wrote a lot of songs about weed, cocaine, opium (kick the gong around), etc. but he never did any of it... except one night he smoked a joint before a performance, and he fell off the stage!

  • Have just been watching Hugh Laurie in his role as Bertie Wooster singing this. I didn't know it was a real song - I thought P J Wodehouse had written it for the book. lol

  • I think the piano part of Wooster was made for the series (because one of Hugh Laurie's many talents is playing piano) and so they got alot of songs from the time period. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

  • so obvious how michael jackson "invented" the moondance..

  • OMG!!!!! I FREAKIN LUV THIS SONG!!!!

i normally listen 2 rap, pop, rock.. stuff like that but i luv this song!!!

  • that means you just like good music :P.

  • hahah thats funni !

  • @princessnia95 WELCOME TO REAL MUSIC Princess hey you want to hear more real music listen to LOUIS JORDAN AND HIS HIT SONG SCHOOL DAYS

  • @dal4018 Like it or not, stuff like Rock and Metal, even Pop in SOME cases, are 'real' music. The only time it's not 'real' is when the instruments aren't recorded live, or in other words, just produced on a computer.

  • @punk9999643 It maybe but this came wayyyyyy before rock and metal agree with you most music today the computer is used instead of actual musical instruments

  • @dal4018 Not rock.It came about 13 years before rock and roll started to fly.

  • @12fig Yes I know 12fig as stated before was among the ringleaders for JUMP BLUES along with Louis Jordan Big Joe Turner Lionel Hampton.

  • @princessnia95 This is rap .... Check out Louis Jordan, The King of Rap.

  • @KwautLizard glory hallelujah all hail Louis Jordan THE ORIGINAL RAPPER

  • @princessnia95 Rap/pop sucks, you have no taste in music so you shouldn't be listening to this.

  • I don't know why but I get the feeling this video looks and sounds like an oldie cuban style. I love the song and Cab Calloway rules!

  • yeah -.- nice song nice guy :(

  • I didn't know he was black

  • lol

  • He's black?

  • This guy acts like Jerry Lewis

    thanks for posting

    peace

  • im 15, and i love this era.

i wish i was born during this time!

i love cab calloway, one of my fav performers ever!

  • You're not alone. I'm 18 and I wish I was born anytime from the turn of the century (so I could be a flapper in the 20s) to the era during which Buddy Holly was around. I adore the 1920s-1960s.

  • good song here, im 25 kinda strange i like some jazz huh.

  • not really, ive been into this sort of music since i was 14 (im now 15. i also do swing dancing) ;D

  • yes it is.

  • Dig it ♫♫♫♫♫

  • i like the betty boop version better

  • Cab is beautifully fit a

  • Cab is beautifully fit and pure here. This is pure talent, not drugs.

  • I think I see Martin Luther King Jr. in the trumpet section at 1:00. :D

  • I love Cab but that is the scariest shit I have ever seen.

  • why the hell are they all so happy

  • cause he's high as balls

  • lmao at :36.

    was the dude winking? lol

  • Man, he's got a big ol' mouth. I guess that helps though. :D

  • Everyone looks so high. One of the best songs ever.

  • @guitarrob1966 High-dee-High-dee-High!

  • @guitarrob1966 opium is good

  • @guitarrob1966 they are high!!! ftw!

  • Are they high?

  • Well, it is a song about drugs. Smokey is described as "cokey" (a cocaine user) and "kick the gong around" is a reference to smoking opium, sold in the Chinese sections of major cities.

Nickle and dimes were a reference to marijauna.

  • And they're all so happy! Tell me the last time you saw a performer that glad to perform...and someone with talent at that! Cab is the best.

  • gee, that was just great

  • Saw him live performing at Wyhnmoor village @ Florida, retirement community in the late 80's. Good performer.

  • I love that he has so much energy

I love that he puts all that energy into he songs

  • Oops Fats "Waller" sorry Fats

  • On second thoughts it could just be the films were so old they had to vut it like that. Jazz package was awsome for old jazz stuff, very odd videos though check out Fats Walla he was brilliant and very funny.

  • Hey, I'm sure that I'm right.

Hear the song with the Blues Brothers Band, then you will see that the new version is better.

  • The new version with the Blues Brothers is better.

  • he is one of the coolest cats of all time

  • There is nothing today that can hold a candle to this. Wonderful.

  • i have to dance to this =/

  • this is edited in random places- why, we want cab uncut

  • I have an answer, there used to be a show on UK tv called Jazz package late at night and they used to cut the songs up to make them fit the programme I think because there was alot of this kind of hmmm intresting editing and this video was one of them. Whoever edited this video had no sense of tempo or timing at all!!! Muppet

  • i wouldn't mind but this is the first time i have seen this. who cares if a programe runs over if it has unedited cab calloway on it!?

ah well- at least its not too off putting. thanks for the info!

  • mmm, mmm he was fine

  • i must agree.

  • I LOVE Cab Calloway!
