  • He who has no sin cast the first bomb

  • actually i have found the "fundamentalists" or evangelicals to be very unfundamental. If they followed a strict interpretation of the Bible, then they wouldn't push dispensational pre-millennialism (because that is not biblical)--also known as the secret rapture, they wouldn't ramble in tongues because the bible clearly shows that the gift of tongues is speaking other languages (that are real), aaaaaaaand, they'd go to church on Saturday and observe levitical dietary practices... to name a few.

  • What I have found is that this sect of Christianity is very agenda driven. Because it is substanceless and is not having an impact on society as its followers think it should, they have resorted to pressuring the government to mandate laws that will push their agenda forward. Anyone who stands against them have been labeled "lost"!! even Bible believing Christians who have a much more strict interpretation of the Bible then they do. In my experience I have found them to be very aggressive.

  • The main problem with your analysis of religion is that you don't differentiate between them. You clump all religions into a pile and label them all under the cliché title, "Jesus". Christianity is as different from the Muslim belief system as fire is to water. To a theological ignoramus you might see that they are both monotheistic and stop there, but there IS a difference in every layer past that.

  • You stated that a "better place" would encourage suicide bombers; however it is the Muslim belief system that encourages suicide, not the Christian. The belief on the part of (not all, only the fanatical) Muslims is that such actions will have... gratifying results to say the least. Some believe that the Christian heaven does not even accept suicide fatalities. There will always be those who disagree but it is not encouraged by any Christian doctrine anywhere, accepted perhaps, never encouraged.

  • You hit on some good points. My problem as I say many times is not with religion, but Fundamentalism in any religion. Regardless of the nuances between religions, the basic tenor is the same--- Submit to "God's" Will. The problem is that if you are acting according to Fundamentalist behaviors, you're relying on an imperfect and often not so well intentioned orthodoxy,

  • The fundamentalism of Christianity has few, if any, bad morals and is not the problem. The problem lies with those who misinterpret the Christian orthodoxy and direct their loyalty to other humans. Humans are flawed; the "human accountability" you spoke of is where the danger lies.

  • Perhaps in certain respects, the problem isn't the necessarily strict adherence to "God's will" but rather ones perception of what that is.

For example, the foolishness of Hagee-style Christians who attempt to "hurry up the rapture" by insisting upon a completely reckless foreign policy. This might be properly termed "political Christianity."

Unfortunately, there appears to be an unholy alliance between the military and Christianity.

  • You said, and I quote, "the danger in this is that there is no human accountability", you were referring to direct obedience to religion. While your fears may apply to the Muslim belief system they need not apply to the Christian, the Christian Bible states in Romans 13:1 "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established."

  • I wish more Christians would read Roman 13:1, because many believe that they are above the government... Bush, when asked if he takes advice form his father, "I answer to a higher authority"... See my piece on the OFC in the Military, "Officers Fellowship of Christians".

  • Exellent insight. I appreciate your intelligence on the world around you.

  • FacistFundamantalistKKKriatianity is the greatest danger to Peace and Freedom in the world today!!! Civilization will be destroyed if they are allowed to thrive!!!!!!!!!!! STOP THEM AND SAVE THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!

  • you're fanatical.

  • this is why I've taken up the philosophy of Buddhism...

  • Wow! I thought Desmond NEVER got off that island! What happened to your Scottish accent?

Arguing over what happens when you're dead is a total waste of time. Hurting folks who don't believe religious fantasy is an abomination.

Afterlives will take care of themself without whining into an empty sky, clearing conscience of remorse, so one can go back to screwing one's neighbors 24/7.

You group of military mental cases is why we have the right to bear arms.

  • I think when we meet Jesus we'll all be surprised at how stupid we actually are. And how self righteous we are. Are our military bases, world-wide, blessed by God? Our guns and bombs? How about our crusade to spread (force)liberty when it is no longer evident on our own shores. Our government's hypocrisy is disgusting. Don't be part of the problem. Vote for Ron Paul

  • When you KNOW how to do something you do not need to THINK about it, you only need to THINK about what you do not KNOW.

In other words the more you KNOW the less you THINK.

When you KNOW everything, you THINK about NOTHING.

As the man said 'BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD' (that means still in your head of course, NO THINKING).

THINKING IS NOT INTELLIGENT, NOT THINKING IS INTELLIGENT.

  • Man,

I respect and love eastern philosophy. But there is a very important practice in all eastern philosophy, it is called "contemplation" It means to look at attentively and THOUGHTFULLY. Knowledge enters a human being through the brain. I think it is very dangerous to advise people to not to think too much. It is impossible for human function to not think. You had to think just to write what you did.

Maybe you being sarcastic, but text doesn't translate.

  • I assure you Sir I am not being sarcastic,I am merely saying that thinking is the road down which we all go towards Enlightenment,

from BEING simple (still) to BEING complicated (thinking), to finally 'BEING STILL' once more.

This is how to IN-'STILL' knowledge.

We begin as Nothing, then through our experiences become what we think we are, although under all that rubbish we collect in the World there we are STILL/NOTHING.

This is the REALISATION (through experience) of BEING NOTHING.

  • There is only one thing responsible for more deaths than religion and that is the mosquito.

I am sure that if there was any truth in religion we would have seen some results in over TWO THOUSAND YEARS.

RELIGION IS NOTHING MORE THAN IGNORANCE MASQUERADING AS INTELLIGENCE.

THE CONTROL OF PEOPLE THROUGH INDOCTRINATION AND FEAR.

  • Hey.. Welcome back

  • I guess I am a fundie-Constitutionalist, "follow the word", which of course allows for change (amendments) if needed...:)

  • Jesus said all of the law springs forth from two concepts:

Love your God above all else

    and

    Love your neighbor as yourself.

How many of your neighbors have you loved lately?

How many is the military being trained to love?

  • Religion is an excuse to kill and it has poisoned the minds of billions.

It will never go away because it is one of the oldest and most useful forms of control.

    Nuts.

  • My relationship with Christ isn't completely personal. I believe God gives me guidance in my life, and it sounds like -from my interpretation of the new testament- that true christianity is very communal and very inclusive. I'm fundamental in my beliefs, I'm just not..... what people would call "a fundamentalist" I'm fundamental in my belief for helping people, my political philosophy, and my philosophy of God.
