google search "rude awakening by Charles Carreon" for a really good sense of the real story AND search "ram dass stripping the gurus" THEN search "clark heinrich ram dass" in google books THEN get back to me...Ram Dass meant well but was as gullible as they come...think for yourself...real spirituality comes from within and is subtle, not cheap magic tricks AKA "miracles" retold by a bunch of men and women with serious personality issues...Ram Dass's only real teachings come from his drug use.
I don't understand people talking about it being great to get high or trip and listen to Ram Dass. One of his key subjects is his failure at achieving what he was looking for through drugs and having to move on to different forms of mind-expansion.
@TheAdamewing It's true that he failed to achieve what he was looking for with drugs, but the way I see it that doesn't mean another person can't find their own ecstasy with these chemicals. And I also believe psychedelics help people like myself appreciate and understand this beautiful man even better. But that's just me. Everyone has to find their own way to enlightenment :)
This is the first ive heard of this guy (I was born in 69 and sheltered from life in general) I have to admit its got me interested but i doubt i would actually take LSD. Its all very facinating though...
I was listening to this at work once, and three people who work around me peeked in to see what I was watching because they could here it from their cubicles. The message is spreading.
To 'suddenly'...explain to all of us just where Ram turned into a "deceptive charlatan"...do you even know the path he went from Harvard to India and back?...I imagine even Timothy was in it just for the money, right?
Examples and proof of said deception most appreciated...Mr. Alpert is no Sun Myung Moon, Jim Bakker or Jimmy Swaggart...
"Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream...It is not dying..."
Why do these seemingly intelligent people mislead "the herd" so blatantly? The pseudo-science these "professionals" pass off as fact is disgusting. Anyone who is convinced of these idiocies should do the world a favor and kill themselves. There is no redemption from ignorance and stupidity.
Of course what the seeker wants to see and find is a higher consciousness, OUTSIDE himself, a consciousness that will transmit some of his "amazing knowledge."
Little does the seeker suspect that he is in reality admiring a disinformative narcissistic monster, feeding on his gullibilty and naievety...
Krishnamuri did that too, always punctuating his speech with long silences and the most suggestive, often quite hysterical facial expressions designed to generate a perfect receptacle for the seeker's projections...a seeker who sees what he wants to, uncritically.
Hey! jkweddingtrancesuxblahblahblah!...whenever "jew" is used as part of insulting someone...it shows your true character...and arbusto...I think he says some interesting things...I'm not "worshiping" him...and what's my alternative?... Christianity?... heehhaaaHHHAAAAWWWEEEE....you gotta be kidding me...
you all need a little more psilocybin in your lives...just saying...
i'd love to have his charisma, that's sheer power. it never ceases to amaze me to observe the effect it has on other persons. so many desperate and gullible people in search of a wise man, people too lazy and coward to think for themselves. please don't be stupid. do not delegate thinking to white haired smiling gurus. hear what they have to say, but don't take it as absolute wisdom. use your brain, it's a gift of nature too precious not to make full use of it.
This is how I remember him when I saw him at the California Theatre in San Diego around the mid-80's...he signed my copy of "Grist for the Mill"...I will treasure it forever!
Well i guess it depends on which hippies we are talking about. You how some hippies don't seem to shower for days on end and start to smell like homeless people? That I don't like. I also don't like the hippies that just get high all day and talk about things that they do not understand. But some hippies are alright.
Each to their own I suppose but Id be along your lines of thinking also but I like to consider myself a hippie but I wear conventional clothes, wash and dont sit around smoking doobies all day :-)
@frogmaster3950 its a question of consciousness - if you hate yourself, but project your hatred of yourself on someone else, then you arent seeing the whole picture - thats where understanding comes in
its not theoretical, its emotional - describing something isnt the same as feeling it
Not at all like these fluffy, smug, super righteous ones with their soft, hushed toned "spiritual" voices these days who are all "enlightened" (enlightened egos perhaps)
This is a man who has seriously and genuinely experienced life.
I was on a quest to find the meaning of life and I found the Journey of Awakening book and a meditation tape by Ram Dass and I have to say it's amazing. He has spent to long trying to find the alternative to science at finding out our reality and he used so many sources for quotes that he's very interesting. Even though I believe in science, Ram Dass gives me another view to the meaning of life that I believe.
Very nice. The most important thing we can do is stay in this "I am"'ness. It's not a feeling or state of mind. Rather It is being the observer itself. Being your true self, and not getting caught in the sneaky ego. All religions are based on this, though through different methods. Take the name of God in the bible for example. YHWH. This means "I am that I am", or shortened, "I am".
Buddha nature, Christ and Krsna conscienceness, Jah, Allah.. What ever you might call god. Be there. NOW!
Oh Ram Dass :) I learn from you - or better said I realize through your words, thoughts, energy :) That story about the lady is soo funny yet very insightful :) Every path leads to the same place:)
"Its all the same trip"
"Its all the same trip" hahaha ' I crochet!' hahaha :) Love Light and Peace to all :)
wow, i consider myself as very skilled in the english langage, as a german speaking guy, but this word wasn``t familiar to me. Well, now i understand the whole story even less. I mean, what has the LSD experience Ram Dass had to do with knitting?
..well, he is talking about how different people get their understanding in different ways.. he used a LOT of lsd and all other psychedelics he could try, others use meditation or had spontaneous revelations, ..this lady, she crochets.. . .she does her contemplation and meditation with her hook and yarn, ..she knew all this stuff from sitting in deep crochet meditation, ..thats how i see it.. and it made me laugh too.. feel free to message me on any of this ..
Timothy Leary gave him what ??? Silisybem ? English is not my mother language, could someone write up this word correctly ? Ram Dass says something I can't understand at 7:20, siloseibam, silaysibem, sliosibem, I don't know.
great video. Thanks for not layering shitty music over it.

No I don't. I find it's rather unfortunate for mankind that so many today confuse deceptive charlatans with spiritual guides...

really any sort of stylistic projection is obviously not sincere, no matter how you define yourself you are still a poser.. still a caricature
you havent seen it in yourself yet, otherwise you would have understanding - not hate
