  • YES! finally found out the sample, its "Leyte" by Cal Tjader thank you to EarlyDayz for giving me the artist, and somewhere in the comments i saw the word Leyte. So i typed in both key words in, and i got the sample!

  • @zarenj21 Type 'Whosampled' in google. It's how i find out how people do thangs.

  • @LABGangsters yeah, but i wanted to do some kinda youtube 'crate digging' instead of just googling it. Just to make my Holy Grail Sample sort of a challenge. And plus, i went over alot of Cal Tjader songs.

  • @zarenj21 hahha, i love youtube crate digging.

  • @LABGangsters hahaha me too!!

  • camp lo has to be my favorite rap group. its between them and wu tang.....and maybe heltah skeltah. damn new york holds it down.

  • @csw1000 So true CSW. I still have the same cd I brought back when this album first came out. Classic if you ask me. All my friends went and brought the album when they heard it. But I think because these cats had a different style alot of people looked them over.

  • i love this song. i also like the "remix" or maybe its just another version, but its acapella and i LOVE it! lol

  • Harlem's finest!

  • i thought the sample was close to you by the avalanches??? maybe just different titles.....

  • Marcus Chavers

    MJC Entertainment

    Was here!

  • man ya'll cant blame it on the south because the south has had some great hip hop hits back in the day also. look at ugk's- one day. u cant tell me u dont feel dat man.. but 2days hip hop is jus a different era man. they dont know about the 5 elements or 'tossting' because they haven't experienced it. they look at rap/hip hop music as a way to get rich and swagg on the laddies.. but then again.. what was EPMD's motto...

  • Hip hop at its finest.....I remember being in junior high when this album came out and I still have my original copy to this day. Camp lo is arguably one of the most slept on groups in hip hop PERIOD......

  • 97" damn im old now but still love this art of hiphop 4lyfe.....

  • reminds me of passing periods during cold mornings in freshman year hahaha.

  • This is a Classic joint. Takes me back! I miss those days!

  • its true bro shit was waay more realer then even in the street but now everybody al pachino now and p diddy with superficial coco puff bitches who be really hoes undercover. ha ha fuck the old dayz tho, we struggling today gorilla up bitches ha ha

  • See this is talent. Hip hop got ruined by the Derty south. I gives a rat's ass about bling, rims and all that stupid shit that's been associated with Hip Hop.

A true Emcee can spit rhymes without cussin all the time. that shit went out with the 90's

  • While I agree.....they are talkin about the same shit niggas from the south do. Listen to what they sayin.

They just saying it differently, over a pretty, lush beat.

    That's the only difference.

  • Keep tellin yourself that. LOL

  • Well put homie!!! i agree 100% im 29 been listening to this art of hiphop since the FAT BOYS shits diffrent and ya the south killed it big time.

  • to this day i LOVE THIS FUGGIN SONG!!!! SPARKLIN

    !!!

  • Oh my goodness. I ca't get enough of this song.

  • Lo-wa is Princes of poetry!

  • Under cover Faggot lovers

  • Absolutely classic.

    Gotta love the piano.

  • My favorite song on this album!

  • The dichotomy of Sonny and Geechie's flows is incredible. They're so different but they mesh so well. They play off of each's other energies and have swag all day long. These cats are killin' anybody that's ever come out with anything in the past decade. And that jazz beat is too... TOO cold to hold.

  • old school, this is true hip hop

  • mr.midnight stripped most of the sample and made it sample....i like this though too

  • i meant simple*

  • So ahead of their fucking time they are still INCREDIBLY MODERN SOUNDING even in these grim days for hip hop......Worthy of being thought as one of Top Ten Hip Hop Albums of all time!!!!! Hands Down!!!! Check out shit from buffalo NY such as myself Spec ill K or anyone out here Pseudo Slang,Bogustice,Fresh Guac,Ray Skilla,Keith Concept,Juggular Star,Midnight Gremlin......I swear we are suck in 1995.Youll love are shit. But even if you dont check us....keep shit like this ALIVE AND WELL

  • I couldn't agree with you more man. Well Said.

  • Youre from Buffalo?????

  • yep.......indeed i hail from the city of snow

  • Thats whats up same here guess there are some real hip hop cats in this shithole lol.

  • this is real hip hop... old school and mellow man

  • thanks everyone those were good

  • why does your video say 2005?

this song came out in 1997..get it right....smh...

  • I used to listen to this album on continuous loop in 1998.....dont know what theyre talking about but it always sounded good ;D

  • OMG Painted One of My First Pieces On The Solo To This Joint..Just had 2 Point It Out Cause It's So Real Like That.

  • smoooth

  • smooth but mr midnight mix is even smoother trust me

  • great song to drink to

  • i first heard this song sampled on Avalanches 'Diners Only' and I couldve sworn the 'got the bubbly...' part was Pharell. I was wrong. Love it none the less.

  • get ya drizzy on !

  • come back wit dis shit here maine hooootttttt

  • WERE U AT CAMP?? WE NEED MORE HITS!

  • they just put an album out. stone and rob: caught on tape. i like it so far, but i was kinda of disappointed that a few of the songs were out a few years ago

  • got the bubbly pouring threw me!!!!

  • Love this song! It takes me back to my high school days.

  • supposedly the sample is from Cal Tjader's song Leyte. But somehow it sounds like a different recording of the song. different then the one featured on youtube. Anyone have any suggestions as to what the recording is that camp lo used?

  • i think it's the same recording from the one u commented on. i can definitely hear the sample in that particular version of "Leyte"

  • "Uptown Saturday Night" had some of the very best Rap samples in it EVER used. I personally believe that Dynasty's "Adventures in the Land of Music" (used for Luchini) is THE best sample in the history of Rap music. Then you have the Tjader sample here... AND..."A Little Spice" from Loose Ends (used for Rockin' It - Spanish Harlem). AMAZING album. Glad I own it.

  • @MicJones yeah, and don't forget "Curtis Mayfield - Tripping Out" (Black Nostaljack), as well.

  • @iancurtis86 Agreed!

  • @MicJones Ski made a superb work here. They're not typical beats from '96-'97 (I like them as well), they have an old style flavor... I recently discovered this album (and this group, not pretty known) and I'm in love with it.

  • @iancurtis86 I'm surprised more emcees haven't worked with Ski over the years. He produced "Luchini" for Camp Lo and "Dead Presidents" for Jay. Career-defining works...

  • @MicJones word, that's the only work I knew from him before, his beats in Reasonable Doubt, and it's memorable as well.

  • @MicJones you should check out the mixtape 24 Hour Karate School. it dropped last month. Dame Dash recruited Ski Beatz to work with Camp Lo again, Mos Def, Jay Electronica, Curren$y, Stalley and other new artists. its an amazing mixtape

  • @yaboy0327 I heard about it. I even saw the promo video on YouTube somewhere. Haven't actually picked it up yet though. Is it dope?

  • <
