My aunt had a dachshund that didn't like baths but she just LOVED water. She gave the dog a bath only to have the dog beg to be let out. Ok no problem. The dachshund then found a nice big puddle and splashed around in it to her little hearts content.

I have a mini dachshund that looks and acts just like yours. She moves her feet when she is a foot above the water. When we go to out lake house we take her out on the dock, and she will yelp when we get in and go under, she acts like she wants to save us! Then she will jump in and go under and stuff, too cute (: Dachshunds rule!

now that is soooo cute! she is very much loved! lucky girl! our doxie does the same thing, when we take her out the lake, everyone laughs at her "swimming" like crazy before i ever lower her into the water (I hold her about 6 inches above the water for a minute or so, just to give everyone a laugh). DOXIE'S RULE!!!

My Aunt and Uncle had one, (a standard long hair), which would bark when I was in the pool and then run to the side of the pool I was swimming towards. And as to baths, we had a black standard shorthair, who liked baths I'm guessing because of the warm water. It's a good thing too. He got plenty of them with all the manure and stuff he rolled around in, plus all the skunks he found!

We have two dachshunds. The one in the video doesn't mind baths too much and seems to enjoy swimming. Our other dachshund hates baths and hates swimming. We got the vest at the Petsmart store. Have fun!

I have a fat, old dachshund whom I rescued from the pound. When I let her out to play, she has a wonderful time swimming, chasing things around the creek and running as fast as she can to where she thinks there's another animal to chase. I haven't left her to it lately - it's been cold and she doesn't like to come in sometimes - but it's good for her. (A little tiring chasing this dog around at midnight in the much though trying to get her in!) Thanks. Good people.

She really doesn't need one - but this was her first time swimming and we weren't sure if she would be able to swim or not. Plus it's just safer, just in case she falls/jumps in when we're not looking.

You can make a good swim collar but cutting slices from one of those $2.00 swim tubes. Put rope or thin belt thru the sections and place it on the dog around his neck. They do well because it keeps their head up. We used it when my Aggie was down in her back legs. It worked great and it was good exercise.

Yes some dogs do drown mostly puppies so pple need to use caution and make sure their animals can swim. Dogs should not swim alone either they can get cramps or other problems and possibly drown.
