I fell in love with this movie and everything about it..the theme and what it portrayed.. ^_^ The gowns were amazing, the jewelry..so f-n beautiful..and Kirsten Dunst did an amazing job in this movie. The food was beautiful as well..I wanted to eat it all ^_^ and Count Ferson..Oh my god..I wanna taste of him too! Lucky her! I can't stop looking at those gorgeous eyes..
I appreciate the different approach to her life in this film, but I really get irritated when I hear half of the cast speak in French and British accents, while the other half speak in an American one. I tried to accept it as a way of linking her lifestyle and young age to its American youth audience, but at the same time, I think that is already achieved beautifully with an unique & modern soundtrack, colourful fashions & food. I mean, they're actors & it's the lead role!
I completely agree with Sofia about Marie Antoinette. Antoine is just 14. She's just a kid who went to a frustrating way of life that she didn't want in the first place.
everything was perfect in this film, the plot, the costumes, the set, the choice of actress,at first i was sad of the ending but i learned to love the cliff hanger, of them not showing her being killed
Sofia BRAVO you're a great cinaste. I saw the movie many times... It's delightful, beautiful and modern. I could feel closely what could be to live at that time. The costumes and colors were stunning... BRAVO BRAVO
@ContagiousRandomness i think he meant it as a compliment. like it's not the "drab boring and supposedly villianous" image you see in high school textbooks. instead the movie looks like "candy" lol :D
01:50 Oh, dear... Let them eat cake... Why did't use that scene? I think is better than the official. One of my fav movies ever... & the music... Lovely (L)
yeah it isn't an account of history..it's a piece of art inspired by a person from history. and that takes just as much guts to make as a historical documentary!
this is a great movie. my family hated it, especially my sister who has a history major in college... everything has to be historically accurate with her, which means the music in this movie didn't fit. That was my favorite part, which is just a small reason why I hate my sister... I wish I wasn't surrounded by people who are happy with cutesy movies about pets saving the day or whatever.
Marie Antoinette was not a slut, but come on, her own husband wouldnt have sex with her. Of course she had to go after other more good looking men, I would have done the same thing -.-
There is no real evidence that they slept together. Fraser said that IN HER OPINION they did but couldnt offer real evidence that they did. Coppola decided to have her have an affair because of dramatic purposes not based on real evidence. Also when she was purported to have an affair she was already having sex with her husband.
well you have ur opinion and i have mine. some people like marie antoinette and some people don't and i'm one of them that don't. and who cares if it's kirsten or kristen, it was a typo. how can u like someone u never met?
ive just watched this film, it was amazeing :))) i have studied france in history and its completely different to this film. i always thought she was a villan lol but now i kind of feel sorry for her, she was so young and all :///
I watched this film like....10 minutes ago. It was splendid. Kirsten's performance was flawless...she actually managed to go all the way from a "party" girl to a real QUEEN!
I was glad that the movie ended before the execution. I hate to see gorgeous queens dying on the end of a film like Natalie Portman in the other boleyn girl.
i tried to understand this movie. i think it hit the main ideas but i don't get the myriad of accents and the soundtrack. i just didn't think it was appropriate. but kirsten dunst was amazing as always.

I don't think you know what emoctions mean.
Go see some Woody Allen's movies, like The Another Woman and Annie Hall. Or movies like Before Sunrise & Sunset, Conversations with Other Women, Cinema Paradise, Dead Poets Society... I could be here all my life telling about movies with REAL great emoctions. Even Charlie Chaplin's movies have more feelings and emoctions than the shit that is Sofia's.
Seems you spend all your life watching shitty films and not getting any real emotion from anywhere else. But I can't say that because I don't know you. That's just how you come across. Sozzy.

The both are terrible! Kirsten's the ugliest actres in Hollywood and Sofia's close to be the worst director. You people who likes her movies are just as empty as she is. She's not talented, her father is. Just him.
I think you're empty, Sofias movies tell about great emotions, if you don't recognize them, something went wrong. She's got talent, superior skills. I personally don't like Godfathers, they're too simple and leave nothing for your own imagination. Comparing Sofia to her father is like comparing hmm.. Mozart and Salieri?
marie was a victim of propaganda. She should have killed all those conspiracy theorist before it got out of hand. Her and her lame duck husband really just created a huge mess (even historically) about her reign as queen. About time someone came up with the truth. Robespiere was a lunatic and france was doomed after the queens exit anyway.
I was actually talking about now. But, YES, in the Godfather 3 she was definitely stunning. The only thing I find with Sofia is that she has this dull look about her like sometimes she doesn't seem to really look intelligent. Kirsten wins for personality is what I'm saying.
As far as personality is concerned I'll take Claire Daines . There may be a difference, but there isn't that much of an intellectual difference between early Sofia and Kirsten. They both can come off a bit ditzy.
She doesnt look like Linsay, Paris, Angelina, Jennifer, any of the Jessicas, or Ashleys. Scarlett Johanson - ummm no. Hmmmmm??? Well I know theres a ton more and thinking of all there faces, they really dont look like Kristin. Maybe thats because shes KRISTIN DUNST she is her OWN PERSON. Jeez! ( Oh and who cares if you hate her smile thats your own opinion, oh and I dont agree.

uhhhhhhh, she is a typical white blonde person in hollywood. duh! why don't they put other ethnicities in movies like asians, especially south asians. now i know that this is a period movie and they couldn't do it for this one, but you never see many asians in american movies. and kristin does have a fugly smile.
okay, I KNOW the difference between as a fact and opinion and when I wrote it as she has a fugly smile, that was an opinion so stop trying to say that i was trying to make it as a fact.
I reckon Scarlett Johnansson has got blonde hair and blue eyes, just like Kirsten. I personally think Scarlett's a better actress. I love kirsten though, I feel as if she's a great actress and she's pretty, but so are the others you listed in their own way. Kirsten just tends to go for more obscure films as she's maturing...ei the virgin suicides, marie antoinette, eternal sunshine.
Coppola's treatment is very interesting and provocative. I like it. This film wears better with each viewing. I suspect in 20 years it will be a classic.
absolutely loved this movie. it may have not been a history book version of the life of Marie Antoinette. but it was never meant to be. It was based off of a book which was written on the realism of how Marie Antoinette would have been if she were a modern girl. I love Kirsten Dunst as well but she should have never been cast in this role. But it doesn't matter, the whole thing that sophia coppala put together is awful and she was way out of her depth. It's a great movie if you want to just look at beautiful Versailles and imagine ruling France from there in this period.
