Etho...bad news, the villager testificate, the one the wiki says is green, is not implemented. The farmer replaced it, so you'll only need 5 slots.

I've had this problem with chickens. My rule is now any chicken that gets out gets killed. It caused a mass slaughtering of chickens when I was wiring it up so eggs would go in a small collection bit with a flick of a lever.

Watching you move the villagers was like watching someone get their teeth pulled. The easiest way I found to 'catch' villagers is to take a track and lay it beside them when the stop moving and then place a cart. Instead of trying to shove them to where you want them. It's way easier.

Ethos, you should have two automatic doors, one after the other. In the same way that this allows divers to enter/exit submarines without any water seeping in, it will allow you to enter/exit without allowing any of the testificates to escape. Simply walk through the first door, wait for it to close, then walk through the second door.
