Actually no, the Kingdom of Great Britain came into existence in 1707. 1603 Was the union of the crowns under a Scottish monarch, not 1606. After 1707 it was Great Britain, England is used instead primarily out of ignorance. I've researched this since I asked.
@kurumais: Every country has its own heroes. It's just that France loses so often that there are no typical heroes, who win countless battles, etc etc.
Thanks so much for uploading!

The captain also played Cicero in "Empire", where he was considerably less emotional.

Shouldn't the description say Great Britain rather than England?
mrgeorgeallison 2 years ago
From the time of the Grand union of 1606 until after the coronation of Victoria, the two terms "Great Britain" and "England" were synonymous.

do the french have heroes like sharpe and horatio?
kurumais 2 years ago
I honestly don't know. The only French 'hero' I can think of is Jean Valjean, from Les Miserables, but he isn't military-related.

You have Edmond Dantes who was first mate on the merchant ship Le Pharaon in Alexandre Dumas Count of Monte Cristo.
Of course the most famous one from France is Victor Hugo's Quasimodo.

The musketeers! They are used as the emblem of the Gers, where D'Artagnon came from.

In the book nobody stands in for Horation he goes face to face with that guy. Unfortunate they changed it.

Yup. I rather liked the book, but it's kind of hard to make that little chapter stretch out in an hour and a half movie...XD
