I agree, Pinbacker was just weird and seemed like a last minute add-on. Overall I enjoyed this movie, another good one to see as well is Event Horizon for all you guys interested in this genre.

I can't see how they could have done without Pinbaker. Without his malevolence, the urgency of the mission would have been lost. He was the spanner in the works who was hell bent on destroying the mission; that sets up the tension to the very end. Without that, where's the drama? Who'd watch a movie like this where everything goes to plan; where nothing happens? Besides, if you dislike Pinbaker then you don't understand Danny Boyle movies at all.

I agree. This film's theme revolves around tragedy, it would be pretty stupid if any of the crew of Icharus II survived, because then the film would not "stay" with you long after it was over. Its impact would have been a lot less if ANYONE on that ship survived. I'm glad it ended the way it did, but at the same time saddened. It's a bitter sweet feeling.

Underworld (band) wrote the score.

Actually John Murphy scored it, and Underworld then worked with the score Murphy wrote and made adjustments to it, adding the electronic sounds, etc.

Sunshine was really good up until Pinbacker. I did not like how they introduced pinbacker. It may have been more believable if maybe he was found on the Icarus as the lone survivor after wiping out his crew members (unknowingly to the Icarus2 crew), then brought accross to The other ship to wreak havoc with his nutty ideas. The almost blurrydreamlike thing with him kind of went off course somewhere.

I loved it! However I think I could have done without Pinbacker. I think a member of the Icarus II could have been the one to endanger the mission. Maybe Harvey, because obviously had other priorities, or Searle who was definitely goin down the same path as Pinbacker with the whole Sun obsession
