  • i'm so sad...he's coming to my hometown and its sold out

  • Cricket venue.

  • Thanks anyway. Its a pitty. I had the whole concert recorded. It was 90 minuutes of plain delicious music. I think, this trio is the best of Abdullah´s ensembles. Well, maybe the person who had my old video tape reads this. If so, please, put it on youtube!

    Cheers

  • Could you post the whole concert?

I discover Abdullah en Gasteiz festival the same year, which I have the VHS, but I lost it and would like to have some record of that amazing tour!

  • @GRANPOLLAZO14 this is all I have. It was on a best of 1999 special along with the Mehldau concert I uploaded

  • Grande maestro Jazz dall'Africa!!!

  • grande abdullah. grande musica.

  • This is true musicianship that is absolutely otherworldly. Thanks for posting. Can't wait to repost!

  • 1 of the best musicians ever and best of all He is Capetownian!

  • Always very moving(I love Calyso Minor and the Wedding Song

  • love it, it's so laidback..

  • jazz audience is very polite. it aplauses everytimes, for everything, and everybody together!

    really good tune!

  • The first tune is "Whoza Mtwana". Lovely simple tunes. So much gorgeous, lush space.

  • wat a man

  • Starts with Maraba Blue then leads in with Cape Town

  • Nothing beats Abdullah trio or solo. Cant stand when he gets the 7piece or big band in and he just sits there.

  • feel the same. also like his duets with Shepp and Dyani and the historical record "confluence" w/Gato Barbieri. his larger bands i find annoying and the music feels watered down

  • Thanks for this wonderful music

  • I love Abdullah Ibrahim's music. My other favourite is Water from an Ancient Well.

  • GREAT SONG GREAT MAN!

  • The great perfection of spirit...ですね。

  • Uhm...I think the "Lugano Jazz festival" backdrop behind the musicians gives it away really!.....Wish I'd been there !

  • @clevermedia just caught the comment, I said I think because Estival I think is a little concert away from Lugano usually held a few days before... but yep that sure looks like Lugano

  • Can anyone locate his song called Pule

  • Thank you fir this wonderfull song

    he is a real genius

  • i know the entire audio recording by heart, a masterpiece. Huge surprise to see a footage!! Thanks a lot.

  • I have always prided myself as the biggest Abdullah fan. Unlucky me, he is only in NYC once a year on tour. Europeans have all the fan

  • Yeah but we love him too :)

  • how much do you weigh?

  • By the way the bridge between the two songs is Maraba Blue, all of 20 seconds from 2.21.

  • thanks! I guess you really love it like I do... really heart felt track..

  • The first track is "Whoza Mtwana" Abdullah, Belden Bullock, bass and George Gray, Drums.

  • Thanks for this. Is Belden son of Hiram?

  • Not sure of that connection but I do know he is a Bostonite, Berkeley grad who's been gigging around NYC for a while. He has been the bass player though only recorded on two albums with Abdullah.

Where did you get the clip?

  • off 3SAT TV channel (German/Swiss/Austrian) in Europe... recorded it to a crappy video recorder hence why all my videos from that period (late 90s) sound poor.. but better than nothing eh? ;-)

I think its the Lugano Jazz fest in 1999, I was there in 2005 so recognise the buildings...
