@Yamaha6Drums Kylar? Do you mean Kevlar? If so, then yes plastic heads get a much more traditional open sound. Kevlar heads you can get much tighter and are harder to break but have a more tabletop sound.
437826able he is using pearl cc as a mylar head and he uses. And that swiss cheese looking mesh thing on the bottom of his drum is called the Evan Staccato disk and it mutes the bottom head. His bottom heads are Evans MX5
when you do this stuff at the end are u actually articulating the double roll with ur fingers or are u just riding and controlling the bounce of the stick. i have alot of trouble differentiating. just need some tips. thx
@vinnypapa63 u are using ur arms but in moderation..k u use ur fulcrum(when your thum and forefinger come together) u apply sleight pressure to the fulcrum essentially "pushing" the diddles out
this is kinda like trying to criticize Lebron James in basketball or Peyton Manning in football..this isn't a video of some kid saying "what do you think eh?" its a video saying, if you want to be a drummer, you better do it like this..shutup about arm height or stick height or whatever, it doesn't matter, he's a world champion
i must say he is one of the only marching style drummers i can tolerate watching because his technique is excellent. I hate the sound of all marching shit. Jeff Queen is great stuff though.
he is very mediocre when coming to running down the long roll he jumps around its suposed to be much linger then like a minute but his roll at top speed is very nice
they are called mylar actually, and high schools, even some colleges use them and they work just as well, it's only depends on the kind of sound you want
i think what is meant by "long roll" is that it's done over a longer period of time. like, it's not a 9 stroke roll, or 17 stroke, or 33 stroke, etc. It's just long, and an uncounted number of times :) it is an open roll though. i'm not sure exactly why it's called open :(
yeah yeah. right. i had all those rudiments written down on a piece of paper and the "long roll" has been transcripted so weird that i didn'T know it was just this basic open roll lol. yeah i know what it is. thanks anyway! :)
open meant slow and closed meant fast, probably in reference to the strokes being larger when open and shorter when played faster.
Now, it's possible that "open" would mean double strokes and "closed" means multiple strokes as in a buzz roll or pressed roll. I've always refered to a pressed roll only being much softer than a buzz roll but both having more than 2 strokes with each downstroke.
no one cares... plus i bet u prolly cant do ANY roll THAT clean and EVEN... and one more thing do more reseach before you comment.... THANK YOU COME AGAIN!
Well, this IS an instructional video about rudiments, and not only that but he said he doesn't care how fast he does it but how CONSISTENT his sound is.
Ah, shut up you noobs. Jeff Queen is way awesome, just by his videos, I've learned a lot from him and I'm even better just by watching him. I bet none of you have close to the hands he's got, or know someone who does.
It's nice to see someone questioning Jeff Queen. I remember watching him in Mississippi in 1993. He played dirty then. He played dirty in 1994 and 1995. The guy is a fine player and was fast as hell but he should not have won individuals in 94 or 95.
I'm not a band drummer but I do want to learn how to
do double strokes and that kind of stuff I can match the sound of a double stroke but I only do singles with left hand and triples with right hand and that is not right cause I could be so much faster if my left hand was fast like my right hand
sorry if you guys took it the wrong way but i wasn't saying he's not great to watch or hear. i thought most people would not take it wrong, sorry if i made a bad impression. it's a great video and i did add it to my favorties.

hunt12887 4 years ago
Wow, look at that lean! He looks like a diciple of Thom Hannum with that lean.
I have a quick question. What's the point in all that leaning if you can either raise or tilt the drum?
I like Thom, and Queen's a good player, but that is just wasted energy and bad for your back.
