  • Perfect! Exactly what I needed, thanks!!

  • Thanks man

  • Your are the man!!!! great lesson and straight into it. Thanks

  • its a fukin octave higher

  • Thanks!!

  • I played it exactly this way for years and years, until I found out it's 3rds and should be 7th fret first string, 8th fret second string and is played as paired notes. While it sounds right to play it in 6ths, it's not technically correct, but maybe it doesn't matter all that much, but fwiw, thirds is correct.

  • Thanks,just needed this one!

  • Nice strat!

  • please teach us how to play more completely wrong versions of classic riffs !!!! i bet the cunninghams are awesome

  • send me tabs for this part... since i can play the other part

  • Dude, I seen a lot of screwed up tabs, and the live versions are seem always different than than studio so I've always struggled with the intro, but your lesson is simple sounds correct, thank you.

  • This isn't how it's played on the original recording, it's in 3rds, not 6ths. The first pair of notes are both on the 12th fret B and G strings.

  • ya lost me at "everybody wants to play"

  • Great Video !! Looking forward to the next one !!

  • I was a bit lost when at :59 seconds you say, "...you're gonna just..." but I see now that you drop your 3rd finger down on the string. Repetition at slower speeds in a video like this would be helpful, but I'm not arguing about the price of this 2 minute lesson! LOL Also, I didn't realize that when you say "framing the D" you intended 1st finger to grab the A note on the 5th fret of the first string. Thanks for posting the video Nigel!

  • Too difficult as Van Morrison's band plays it much easier... just use the bottom two strings (1st and 2nd) and start at 7th fret; Really simple riff. Start 1st finger on 7th fret 1st string, second finger on 8th fret 2nd string, play, then move 1st finger 1st string to the 8th fret, 2nd finger 2nd string to the 10th fret, play, then 1st finger 10th fret 2nd finger 12th fret, play; walk it same way back down. Now the second pattern repeats this very same pattern at the 12th fret. Enjoy.

  • @benellidown actually that is the correct way to play it, if you listen to the recording it is just the E and the B string , somebody please do a vid of this

  • @benellidown Totally agree that is how I play it too 12th 13th,13th,15th,15th, 17th and back

  • thanks! :)

  • Nice job, check out my video!

  • you said that everybodys want to play thas song? wow wow dude thats fron sophie tucker times .......keep on shape dude regards.....you play well...

  • one of the easiest songs to play just the basic lick and strumming. One of the most difficult to play on a note to note basis. It's true that the intro is played in thirds, not sixths. I use thirds for the intro when playing it on acoustic because of the neck length on the acoustic is to short. Don't sweat the small stuff though, the notes are the same, just reversed in thier pitch.

  • sure, play it at full speed ,one version at a time.

then, please, slowly, explaining what your doing.

you just sound like a smart arse

  • There are a couple of sections in this tune where the guitarist plays sixths. But not this section which is definitely played in thirds. Starts on B over G. Not over D. Listen again and if you still don't hear it, get the sheet music.

  • Thanks Cunningham, but I wish your slo motion was really slower

  • umm what does "framing the D" mean?

i have rest of the riff figured out, i just can't get that part

  • oh ya n fuck the verlew guy. it sounds fine to me

  • Comment removed

  • great video man. learned alot . thanks

  • It's properly played with major and minor 3rds...not 6ths.

For the first two-note pair, the top note is B (7th fret 1st string) and the bottom note is G (8th fret 2nd string). The next pair is C (8th fret 1st string) and A (10th fret 2nd string), followed by D (10th fret 1st string) paired with B (12th fret 2nd string).

Move the same pattern up five frets and repeat.

Also, Van wasn't the guitarist on this one...he doesn't have the chops.

  • boooooooooooooooooooo

  • at last a brill lesson,thanks dude

  • Wow! Finally someone who knows what the hell they're talking about.

Do you know how many Brown Eyed Girl covers/lessons I had to get through before I found this faithful instruction?

It's not worth doing if it's not done right (most of the time).

What makes Brown Eyed Girl such a work of art is Van Morrison's elaborate and whole-hearted composition on guitar.

    Thank you Cunningham for posting.

  • hmm, you know, at first i didn't think so but when then i played it and i think this way is actually easier to play!

playing the riff this way also helps you see the chord "outlines" i think

    thanks for posting!

  • finally someone knows his stuff,Im to lazy to figure it out myself.thanks
