but, we also have few others from a more nomadic gypsy style background and one of its greatest exponents is "Anjael-Man with the blue face from Canada...maybe you gys would check him out?
I saw it years ago in a documentary called The Django Legacy ... I had it on VHS but have since lost it, and would love to find a copy. Pretty much every other gypsy style guitarist was in it, and they filmed the Samois-sur-Seine festival. Amazing stuff!!
jazzmanouche, you should change your name to jazzdouche, its more fitting. ROFL @ hellokittys comment, that is spot on though. Bireli can do or say anything he wants, lol. He's earned that right and then some.
Stochelo let me tell something, you dont know how to play gypsy music, put down the guitar it sounds really bad. You are raping the guitar...and the songs too. By the way Stochelo raped my song bossa Dorado.... Stochelo you know what dorado and tchavolo told me about you?? That you are on social asistence, and that you had head-lice. Stochelo you are a big masturbator.....
@jazzmanouche are you really bireli in disguise? Because he is the only human on earth allowed to speak of Stochelo in such ways. :) hahah if you are bireli I say please dont slander Mr. Stochelo, but yes you are allowed to say anything you want about anyone because you are basically god in .gypsy format, like .mp3 for music, you are .gypsy for earth. But we know you are not bireli, so get out and never come back
@hellookelly ROFLLLLLLLLL it takes some serious gall to call the 2nd best guitar player in existence anything negative. Grats on having the largest set of private parts on earth, or the lack there of.
I still cannot understand how the gypsy players manage to down pick when they are going up on the strings. It's counter-intuitive. Love u Stochelo. U R da shyt.
The kid is getting an ear training, you bet by the time he gets his first guitar he'll have memorized a lot of chord progressions and from close up observation of his dad's technique he will have a leg up, so to speak.
Isn't this scene of peaceful home life more attractive than one with all the high tech entertainment gizmos or what? The atmosphere is very nice, and gosh, the man looks very good too.
no they bought the trailer, moved all his stuff in, hired a wife and baby just to shoot this clip for your enjoyment so you'd ask the question does he actually live in a trailer.
Ok, I found it. I just remembered I have a cd backup of all the content from those 5-6 groups on yahoo, back in 2005. The file is called Stochelo Solo.pdf
The name of the transcription is called,
Unknown Piece from Django Legacy Video (as recorded by Stochelo Rosenburg) It was transcripbed by Dennis at DjangoBooks.
I do am a musician and if you wanna know in that point he's playing a II V I in F major and on the F he hits C#, which is an augmented fifth, and a kind of a dissonant choice. You can hear it clearly, and also you can see it by the movement that he does with his left hand, his finger is kind of in the middle of two notes and then he adjust immediately shifting to another note, which is the natural sixth, D in this case. Take it easy mate ;)
Well, had he not shifted to another note, I would have fully agreed but he did shift. So it's debatable whether it was on purpose or not. Seen that move a million times on purpose.
Well, obviously a master like him would probably not stay on a wrong note for more than half a second, so it's really difficult to actually see him PLAY a wrong note. I don't know if I just explained myself in the right way but it's pretty clear I think ;)
Keep in mind that Stochelo has no back-round in traditional music theory. This is reflected in his use of some unconventional chording shapes that distinguish his sound from that of the other gypsy manouche titans. Compared to the others (Bireli, Jimmy, etc) his music is pure unassuming, unadulterated bliss. May his music live forever.
There's this genuineness and something special about this style of music. It hits you right in your heart and it transcends time and all cultural boundaries in my opinion...you hear jazz, a folk type of Gypsy vibe, virtuosity, and the sound that his guitar emanates is beyond words and description.
I think i found out the name of the piece. "Stephanesque". Anyone?

Does anyone know if he *still* lives a traditional gypsy lifestyle? This video was shot a long time ago.
