You should keep the bass level on the headunit to 0. Turning it up to 12 is boosting the bass, which most likely is sending a distorted signal to your amp, which can blow your sub.

im guessin that this sub is dual 4 0hm and you will have the coils wired in parralel for a net 2 ohm load meanin if you get another 1 the same it will have to be dual 4 ohm as well so to power 2 type r's you will need an amp which produces approx 1000wRMS at 1 ohm

eg shops sells as a package 2 alpine type r subs with dual 2ohm voice coils and an alpine mrd m1005 which can produce 1000wrms at 2ohms so each type r would receive 500wrms each. so i would say if the sub u have is dual 4 ohm get another 1 that is dual 4 ohm and save up for an amplifier that is 1 ohm stable i would reccomend something like the direct d2400 which can produce 1200wrms at 1 ohm this would power the type r's very well but it is about £200 so this would be your best option.

so each would get 150wrms each which is not good as alpine reccomend a minimum of 200 wrms to an alpine type r sub. where as if u had 2 dual 2ohm version u could wire them to a net 2ohm load which would give them 300wrms each. which IMO is still not enough. if u are running 2 subs to a single amplifier i would reccomend them being dual 20hm

i would highly reccomend against it. as im guessing your current sub has dual 4ohm voice coils meaning u would have to get another one with the same voice coils meaning you will have 2 dual 4 ohm voice coil subs which can be wired to a net load of either 1 ohm or 4 ohms since the amp u have is only stable to 2ohms it means u would have to wire them to net 4 0hms meaning that the amp would be produing 300wrms to 2 subs

if it is the amp that i think it is it produces 600 wrms at 2ohms and 300 wrms at 4 ohm if your sub is dual 4 ohm the coils can be wired in series for an 8 ohm load or in paralel for a 2 0hm load where as if its a dual 2 ohm it can be wired in series for a 4 ohm load or in parralel for a 1 ohm load the chances are its a dual 4 ohm sub wired in parralel for a net 2ohm load meaning its being given aprox 500wrms - 600wrms depending on voltage level etc. but im glad 2 hear that it is loud.

hi mate. yer the subs sound quality is really good. doesnt distort when played loud. and gives a real good clean punchy sound. if you want sound quality you need the Alpine RS12V box. and im running the alpine mrd 605w amp ( i think its called that) but yer im sticking with alpine for my next speakers,chow
