There are a lot of beautiful interpretations on youtube (Georges Thill and Andrea Bocelli for example) , but I really hate this version. It's supposed to be Andantino and 'dolce' and not Lento or even Grave what Robert Meadmore is doing here. I think it is terrible Kitsch and certainly NOT the tender and light version Faure ment!
@MrPietjePuck hmm. i accompanied the real version many times with singers, and i have to say this makes a nice change. i love the mellowness of the orchestra. interesting you cite Bocelli, as he is generally felt to have a nice voice but little interpretative skill. try veronique gens and see what you think. :)
I sang this for solo/ensemble contest in Texas once and I sang the "r" just like he does here and the judge told me they are supposed to be flipped like in Italian? If you sing a French song aren't ya supposed to pronounce the words like French do? I'm so confused
This evening I saw a programme about him on our Australian TV station (Ovation) and was quite impressed. Now searched for him on YouTube which confirmed my initial opinion - he sings wonderfully !!! Will now search for more !! Many thanks for the upload !
Sublime! Masterpiece!

well, it's a bit too slow. Anyway, I love his voice very much. Beautiful!

Superb version, magnificent voice!
Robert is one of the greatest baritones I've had the pleasure of... listen to! ;-)

I feel like this is a mix between pop and bel canto, lol. Nice sound, but it's not operatic.

This is one of the truest interpretations I've ever found. The song of losing a lover conveyed with brilliance. HIs voice suites this song well.

Very pretty voice....I would think the tempo would be unsingable, but Mr. Meadmore manages it very well. Bravo!
