The Hustle by Van McCoy is a song. When you see people doing a line dance to Van McCoy's song, they are doing THE BUS STOP. When you see partners dancing HOLDING HANDS to disco music, they are HUSTLING, OR DOING THE HUSTLE. Get It Straight.

@dunndebbiedo - Debbie, did you only read my first sentence? My 3rd sentence acknowledges the Hustle as a "partner dance". I was one of the best "huslters" in the tri state area in the 70's, won many, many contests, at Uncle Sams, Zacharys, Copacabana, too many clubs to name, mostly in NYC.

@avp0713 When we were in a group with 25 people or more, doing the same dance moves, at the same time..we called it the hustle, but I am in Louisiana and we were usually last in line to get the correct name of the dances , so maybe it wasn't the hustle we were doing but that's what we called it.

At the same time "The BusStop" was created, and that was a group dance like the video above. NOW: here's where it became confused: During the 80's alot of the HS Gym teachers started teaching all the new students a group dance, but they didn't call it "the Bus Stop" like they should have, they called it "the Hustle". Thereby confusing things.

Its really not a big thing but: People sometimes confuse the Hustle with the Busstop. The hustle is a partner dance, the Busstop is a line dance. In the 80's dorky gymteachers started teaching their gymclasses in Junior High School and High School how to do "The Hustle", only thing was, they were teaching them The Busstop.
