THE ANSWER God made you, but he didn't make you gay. Yes, you were born gay - it was not your choice but God didn't do it. What happened was God originally made everyone straight; then sin entered the world and corrupted creation. (called the Fall of Man). Sin causes birth defects etc. God didn't plan for anybody to have a birth defect - they just started to happen after man became more and more sinful.

Sure, society makes a big deal out of people being gay, but at the end of the day, does that make gay people, or bisexuals like me, that different from heterosexuals? Looking at a couple of your comments, I need to say something. Being gay is a manner of existing, it's the way you were born just like someone who was born with brown hair and blue eyes. Here is the latest fact sheet from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Yes male to male is more common but everyone else still has the risk. It also breaks it down by race, age, and sex.

Homosexuality was widely accepted back during Roman and Egyptian times. It wasnt until Christianity came around that it was frowned upon. Women were only for procreation at the time and so men were to sleep with other men the rest of the time in Roman society. They found a tomb in Egypt with two men inside who were loves and were also very high members to the Pharroh.

Ok. I'm not really sure what you're trying to say. I was asking if you think the measure of moral acceptability is based on acceptance in the past. I don't think that is a meaningful standard. Neither is it meaningful to say that something is morally acceptable because it is socially accepted. If you have a comment on where morality comes from I'd be interested in hearing it. A child isn't a gender, it is a look and I guess a feel, but not an actual argument against gays, simply because children, under all laws, have no legal status to make decisions like this. Adult gays have every legal right to sign contracts and enter into agreements, which is what marriage is all about. Pedophilia will never have legal standing simply because one of the partners isn't of legal consenting age yet.
I agree that pedophilic marriages are very unlikely to be sanctioned for the reasons you state. But legality and morality are two separate things. If homosexuality is considered moral, then pedophilia must also be considered moral. What is more likely is that self-proclaimed pedophiles will have the right to work in nurseries, schools, or daycare's and that anyone who attempts to bar them from these positions will be sued for "discrimination".
The "morality" issue is obviously relative to the individual. This is why morality only plays a peripheral part in the system of laws we have. But, to play your game, the reason homosexuality is morally acceptable as opposed to pedophilia, is because homosexuality is being in love with and having sex with someone who has the same mental and physical faculties you do. Pedophilia, however, prays on the most innocent and weakest among us, kids who aren't fully developed, emotionally or physically.
So homosexuality is ok based on a principle of equality of personhood and maturity. Two mature and aware adults can do whatever they want with each other. Kids aren't mature or aware, therefore they cannot make decisions about sex with an adult.
Why should anyone accept this moral rule that maturity and ability to consent must come before sex. Where does its authority come from? You said morality is relative. Joe's morality says it's ok to have sex with kids. Who are you to say otherwise?

Let me offer an answer. Without a belief in a transcendent and absolute moral authority there is no reason to consider any idea of morality meaningful. Even if society agrees murder is wrong, this is completely meaningless in terms of the inherent "rightness" or "wrongness" of murder since society's views and existence are both unstable and fleeting. You cannot argue about morality merely on feeling or precedence or consensus. There must be a higher authority upon which we judge right and wrong.
Do you think, under any circumstance, that children hold the same ability to make sexual decisions that adults have? You must, because that is the only way you can justify your argument. You claim that pedophilia and homosexuality share the same moral plane, but provide nothing to back this claim up. Children lack the physical and emotional tools necessary to start or be complicit in a sexually, emotionally mature relationship, regardless of legality or morality.
If you need a bible to tell you touching children is wrong, and that without that book, you would be touching children, then we have bigger problems than "morality."

What "transcendent and absolute moral law" are you referring to? The Holy Bible? The Qu'ran? My moral rule comes from my personal experiences, what I know would hurt me if I were a child, and applying that to my idea of pedophilia as immoral. I've wracked my brain trying to figure out why some would believe homosexuality is immoral, but I've found not one concrete reason. The bible doesn't even provide anything convincing.

Arguing about morality should concern the nature of this universal morality, with experience serving as evidence.

Why would you need an outside source to guide you on what's right or wrong? Didn't God, or whatever higher power, provide you with the necessary facilities to make those kinds of judgement calls yourself? Again, why do you need something external to provide you with the rights and wrongs in life? There are animals and humans on this planet who have no "moral compass" as you'd explain it, yet they know the difference of right and wrong. You may need to seek therapy to figure this out, no offense.
What I mean is that morality needs to exist outside of myself and that I need a means of understanding this morality in order to know right from wrong.
If we all have the necessary facilities to make moral judgments, why do we disagree on morality? It is because we are flawed. We are inherently immoral people and cannot rely on ourselves to judge right from wrong. We have some capacity to judge correctly, but unless we check ourselves against a universal law we cannot trust ourselves.
It may be nice to have a moral crutch to lean on in times of personal doubt, but basically, one only needs to look inside themselves, and see whether or not their actions are harming other individuals. My actions aren't harming you or anyone else, where pedophilia harms the weakest of us, children. You don't need a book to tell you that hurting others is wrong, and homosexuality hurts no one.

THE ANSWER God made you, but he didn't make you gay. Yes, you were born gay - it was not your choice but God didn't do it. What happened was God originally made everyone straight; then sin entered the world and corrupted creation. (called the Fall of Man). Sin causes birth defects etc. God didn't plan for anybody to have a birth defect - they just started to happen after man became more and more sinful.

Looking at a couple of your comments, I need to say something. Being gay is a manner of existing, it's the way you were born just like someone who was born with brown hair and blue eyes. Homosexuality was widely accepted back during Roman and Egyptian times. It wasnt until Christianity came around that it was frowned upon. Women were only for procreation at the time and so men were to sleep with other men the rest of the time in Roman society. They found a tomb in Egypt with two men inside who were loves and were also very high members to the Pharroh.

A child isn't a gender, it is a look and I guess a feel, but not an actual argument against gays, simply because children, under all laws, have no legal status to make decisions like this. Adult gays have every legal right to sign contracts and enter into agreements, which is what marriage is all about. Pedophilia will never have legal standing simply because one of the partners isn't of legal consenting age yet.

If homosexuality is considered moral, then pedophilia must also be considered moral. Because without those two qualities, you don't know what you're getting into, and the act could in all probability scar you for life, not to mention the fact that the child's body isn't fully developed, and there could be severe physical damage to the child. None of these are problems in a consenting adult relationship.

Is it so difficult to answer the question of why the principles of maturity and consent should be considered authoritative?

Let me offer an answer. Without a belief in a transcendent and absolute moral authority there is no reason to consider any idea of morality meaningful. Even if society agrees murder is wrong, this is completely meaningless in terms of the inherent "rightness" or "wrongness" of murder since society's views and existence are both unstable and fleeting. You cannot argue about morality merely on feeling or precedence or consensus. There must be a higher authority upon which we judge right and wrong.

Do you think, under any circumstance, that children hold the same ability to make sexual decisions that adults have? You must, because that is the only way you can justify your argument. You claim that pedophilia and homosexuality share the same moral plane, but provide nothing to back this claim up. Children lack the physical and emotional tools necessary to start or be complicit in a sexually, emotionally mature relationship, regardless of legality or morality.

I believe they share the same moral plane because I believe in a transcendent and absolute moral law which says so. I did not claim that you should believe in the same law, only that your claims about the nature of morality are insufficient to differentiate between homosexuality and pedophilia. You say they are different because of a moral rule that consent and sufficient maturity must exist in sexual relationships, but you cannot answer where that moral rule comes from. Why is it meaningful?

What "transcendent and absolute moral law" are you referring to? The Holy Bible? The Qu'ran? My moral rule comes from my personal experiences, what I know would hurt me if I were a child, and applying that to my idea of pedophilia as immoral. I've wracked my brain trying to figure out why some would believe homosexuality is immoral, but I've found not one concrete reason. The bible doesn't even provide anything convincing.

If your morals come from your own experiences how do you know that what your doing is really right or wrong? It does not hold up. At least with religion the moral code is derived from a higher power and set in stone not in personal life experiences because everybody has different life experiences and if people use their own experiences to decide right and wrong then there will be many right and wrongs its illogical sir! LOL

So I believe in the Bible as God's word, which describes a moral law that exists in the universe in a way like the law of gravity. This moral law existed before the Bible was written.
The point is, the nature of existence is such that some things are right and others are wrong. The morality of something does not depend on your ability to reason for yourself what is right or wrong. Arguing about morality should concern the nature of this universal morality, with experience serving as evidence.

Why would you need an outside source to guide you on what's right or wrong? Didn't God, or whatever higher power, provide you with the necessary facilities to make those kinds of judgement calls yourself? Again, why do you need something external to provide you with the rights and wrongs in life? There are animals and humans on this planet who have no "moral compass" as you'd explain it, yet they know the difference of right and wrong. You may need to seek therapy to figure this out, no offense.

What I mean is that morality needs to exist outside of myself and that I need a means of understanding this morality in order to know right from wrong.
If we all have the necessary facilities to make moral judgments, why do we disagree on morality? It is because we are flawed. We are inherently immoral people and cannot rely on ourselves to judge right from wrong. We have some capacity to judge correctly, but unless we check ourselves against a universal law we cannot trust ourselves.

It may be nice to have a moral crutch to lean on in times of personal doubt, but basically, one only needs to look inside themselves, and see whether or not their actions are harming other individuals. My actions aren't harming you or anyone else, where pedophilia harms the weakest of us, children. You don't need a book to tell you that hurting others is wrong, and homosexuality hurts no one.
