i saw this when it was first shown, 44 years ago. I am now 66, and I still get goosebumps when I see these videos. This was the power of his stage persona, that it reaches across 44 years and touches me even more than it did then.
And that people who werent even born then still respond.
I can now understand why he scared adults with teenaged daughters, lol.
I have the DVD box set of this TV show, and it has so much more than was shown on TV at the time, and far better performances than most people have ever seen Elvis do. It truly shows him at his best, which it is strange to say, given his continued popularity, most people have never seen him at. He was the best live performer ever, able to give a better show at 50% than most top-notch singers can at 100%.
this angers me almost to tears. If he had been left alone, without Col.Parker, this is what he would have been. He had the most amazing voice and delivery, and the fact that my god 43 years later he can still draw this kind of attention
says a lot. He was an incredible rhythm and blues singer. What he ended up was, was a package for the Col. And it killed him. Damn.
@goth1945 God created Elvis beautful; self-serving humans turned him into a freek. His agent and "mafia" were more responsible for his premature death than drugs, lack of sleep and bad choices combined. With his parents, may he now have the authentic peace that was cruely deprived to him here on earth. Elvis has given us many good lessons for our own life; we must be attentive and grateful . . . .
Lloyd Price wrote and performed this great song, but El owns it. Elvis ended up a complete mess--only his mom Gladys could have pulled him out of his tailspin. Vernon wasn't worth a damn, and the entourage was mostly a bunch of leeches.
Indeed one of his best performances, next to That's the way it is and Aloha from Hawaii. Biggest comeback ever!!!!!! And what a brilliant voice!! Not a lot of artist who can sing live this well.
