  • this is missing Best VGM 498

  • It's weird. I wanna say either Trial or Underground Sewer was my favorite piece from Chrono Trigger. However, I found this song to best represent the game as a whole. When i played in was this one and Zeal Theme that would get stuck in my head.

    Mitsuda's hella sick with it.

  • SILENCE Light.

  • Dat BASS

  • reminds me of ff2 on snes

  • Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as Chrono Trigger. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!

  • Man, I love this game. This song also reminds me of secret of evermore somehow, which also brings back more nostalgia...

  • Man, Chrono Trigger had some awesome tracks.. My favorite was the forest theme.

  • I was the guy who bought the gear on my first playthrough.

Hardcore gaming veterans for the win :D

  • this tune has a bassline dirtyer than dubstep

  • When does this theme play during the game?

  • @Koho7 In some dungeons. And a mountain near Porre. if i remember correctly.

  • @Koho7

From what I remember, it plays in the 600 A.D. Cathedral and Medina Village in 1000 A.D.

  • i need this for ds :O

  • @masterplusmargarita I think it's better. Not than all the games, for example FFIV, but I think it's better than FFIV, V and SoM. The story is way deeper, the musics are just awesome, the concept is cool, I love the characters, so many endings and possibilities, that is just awesomeness :)

  • @masterplusmargarita It was the first SNES game I played all the way through. It was on an emulator because I was never fortunate enough to get an SNES. It was my first real exposure to a JRPG. It was glorious. I recently played it again on my handheld. I went start to finish in 3 days. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the music, the characters, the environments, the storyline, the battle system didn't feel aged at all. This game is timeless. (I like Chrono Cross better though :D)

  • @masterplusmargarita

It's because it's such a memorable game, the music alone makes people cry of the nostalgia.

Same goes for the games you mentioned.

None of them are any different, just different forms of our childhood. :D

  • @masterplusmargarita It comes from people's personal experience; my friends and I played (almost) all JPRG for the SNES(FF series, Secret of mana, super mario rgp, breath of fire, etc), then one of use found out this hidden gem and it was like it just had everything we could even think of: Great music, the graphics were good for SNES, fun combat system with combinations of spells, multiple endings, artwork from our hero Akira Toriyama (lol) and that with other reasons was huge at the time. :)

  • thumbs up if you first played this on SNES!

  • @guchimon1 I was two months old when this was released on the SNES... yeah I first played this on the DS.

  • i looooove this tune!!!!

  • This song makes me cry.

  • seeing that the two highest rated comments is not even related to Chrono Trigger will awaken the real life Lavos that lies sleeping deep below.

  • It's so eerie, but yet I can't help but believe that this is what heaven sounds like.

  • and in other news, this right here is what I listen to every time I play along with the tab.

  • That desolate white mountain sitting in the grey rusted future that is 2100A.D.

    Perfect song for it.

  • @Chamillionare64

An apposite description I'd very much corroborate.

  • @Falsate

    Gentlemen....

  • @Chamillionare64 Actually that was Ruined World, not Silent Light, but they both kick ass.

  • @xzaxwarudox

This theme plays in the actual mountain though.

  • @Chamillionare64 Oh, does it? My mistake, then.

  • Diablos

  • LOL i shit my pants everytime i hear this song or the battle theme.great music and game. I can't see wich one i liek the most :P

  • I agree. So I hope that this will never become mainstream, because I like being a rebel.

  • I can't wait till this aesthetic is mainstream again

  • @TashMV Mainstream media is never a good thing, regardless of its quality.

  • I love this song so much *-* ♥

  • There is a well-concealed hint of Midna's theme from Zelda: Twilight Princess just before the track repeats itself.

  • @00roastedlampost00 Or you mean there's a well-concealed hint of Silent Light in Midna's them from Zelda: Twilight Princess.

  • @thisbarb Well......yeah. I figured this came first ;)

  • @thisbarb Now that you mention it... Damn dude! That's so true!!

  • Creepy Catholic Church monsters......

  • @TheJovanist What's so unusual about that?

  • @TheJovanist

"All we want is world peace, or a piece of the world X)"

  • This game in general had the best music... the battle theme, the forest theme, frog's theme... incredible

  • this takes me back to friday evening after school, renting this game then heading into the first dungeon while eating pizza

  • That bass!

  • @MountApple hell yeah, no one ever notices the bad ass bass lines in snes games

  • @megadeth1818

    Haha I LOVE Snes bass.

  • omg this brings me back, this was such a pain in the ass to get past in game

  • Nice Uematsu track. He definitely has his own style..

Wonder if you have any tracks from Front Mission - Gun Hazard, it is filled with great Uematsu and Mitsuda tracks

  • oh this theme brings me back... about maybe 10 years ago? I would be playing this game over the summer break.

  • @nypad5 this song... something about this song..... what is this feeling i cannot describe.

  • @Primer9 takes me back to summer of '03? playing this game in basement learning emulation for the first time. Magical memories.

  • @nypad5 yeah this song is like my city being cursed

  • I can appreciate why this song is good, but I HATED it in game. Fantastic game though, and horribly well composed. I literally cringe when I listen to the soundtrack on the DS version because it's that good.

  • Is it too late to go back to 1984 and start over the best period in gaming ah memorys of youth gone forever damn these electric bills!!!

  • Wow this game really did kick ass.

  • I didn't realize how good this song was until listening to it just now...I definitely remember this in the game though.

  • It makes me wonder, if you go to Medina Village with Magus in tow, what happens? Do the shopkeepers lower their prices?Sorry, I'm only at Magus's castle. I rehooked my SNES to play my old games again!

  • By the time you get Magus in your party the past has changed and instead of worshipping him they all hail.......

    OZZIE! :)

  • I love how u defeat ozzie bahaha funny boss fight!

  • I Love this song!, sets the mood perfectly.

    its haunting, but also beautifull!

    Congrats to Mitsuda & Uematsu

  • Reminds me when you're in a mysterious, odd place, and you're totally lost. CT music sets the mood perfectly in any situation.

  • i love this song it makes me wanna play chrono trigger all over again

  • man..those fiends @#%^ers ripped me off..

1100 gold on a POTION!?!?!?!?!?! fricken discrimination

  • humans dont get discounts ;)

  • @asands123 that was like racism in the game, but it was funny.

  • @Darkgilgameshv5 they were consider furries, thats why they were like that.....

  • Damn I basically like all the chrono trigger musics

  • reminds me a little bit of the music that plays when your in a hot spring in mother 3

  • I love this track...when I was playing through the Cathedral, this track really hooked me and that was when I started getting into the game. This is one I never get tired of, could listen to it over and over...

  • what are you? some kind of pervert?

  • is that a handbag?

  • HAHAHAH FRIED CHICKEN

  • Crono has bigger balls than (future) trunks

  • Holy shit! For a minute, I thought this was Runescape music.

  • why?

  • The beginning. I was multi-tasking.

  • I believe RuneScape used a sample from this song.

  • Because Runescape's soundtrack is stuck in the 16-bit era :p . That might be giving it too much credit though.

  • Holy $%^& Nobuo Uematsu composed this?! No wonder why it sounds like it could fit in Final Fantasy VI (to me of course, but that is not the point, anyway). Great piece.

  • No, Yasunori Misuda composed all of Chrono series OST.

  • There are a few tracks by Oematsu though, yeah? After Mitsuda fell sick.

  • @plugza

Uematsu did compose a few of the tracks in the game, this being one of them.

  • you hear the direct comparison to Blue Dragon's soundtrack =]

  • ? I dont hear a connection to Blue Dragon...

    what track?

  • ocremix did good work on remixing this game's songs.

  • crono looks like trunks in this pic

  • Indeed, his face looks like Trunks.

  • Lol yep, Trunks' face with Goku's hair. xD Akira did an awesome job!

  • no.

  • I like the bass parts in this.

  • Chrono Trigger DS....... i love it and i'm glad i purchased it.

  • im stuck LOL. im always stuck in the future -_- im at the part where you can challenge the guy to a race. i got to the other side and there seems to be some crazy scientist. ive never beaten the game, and i want to experiance the epic adventure that everyone is talking about. LOL i finally beat FF4, that was actually an amazing game, glad i beat it.

  • FF4 is hard.... maybe i should be playing that game now..... i'm trying to get all 12 or so endings on CT. I have about 3 endings so far, and i recently got caught up in playing Diablo 2 (PC)...

  • That's really creepy. I just beat CT and am going for the endings (of which I have about 4). I am also part way through FF4 and was meaning to pick it back up next, but I decided to take a break from all that and get back into Diablo 2: LoD. I've ended up mostly playing Okami lately though, so i guess the parallels end there. Still I thought it was a bit funny.

  • @jcudal32 Crazy scientist?! Oh, you mean that person. You know that you could simply walk through without racing Johnny.

  • my god...just hearing this brings back so many memories....easily the best RPG of all time

  • I believe Nobuo contributed to the music of this game......I think, if so I love his use of the bass.

  • the music and artwork was fantastic in this game. A good game because it was not over-done

  • Oh wow, I remember this.

  • has anyone remixed this yet

  • I think you would do well checking ocremix out. ^^'

  • Just hearing this song it makes me remember fighting a monster that looks like snake.. in the cathedral xD

  • gnasher

  • O.o yeah that one xDD

  • I hate this song because it's so great. I mean, it's a good song, I like it, but it always creeps me out. Whenever this song comes up, I always feel it. Eerie, creepy, unsettling. I love it! (I think?)

  • I agree...it's too mysterious for my liking.

  • I totally agree with you xD I like it. But in the same time, I hate it cuz it's kinda scary xDD right?

  • This, Undersea Palace, and Wind Scene are three beautiful parts of a game which are among the best installments of all games.

  • Also, Secret of the Forest must be included.

  • I sometimes think this music is used at wrong times, but hey, it's a good song! ;)

I'm enjoying the DS remake now, it's worth it!

  • Chrono Trigger is a pure pallete of win. Anyone who considers themselve an RPG fan should experience this absoloute master peice at least twice.

  • This tune is mysterious. This game has got to be one of the best RPG's ever. The story, characters and gameplay were brilliant and i love the music :) Sucks i dont have a DS to play the remake :(

  • Then go buy one. It's worth it.

  • Just buy it for snes

  • The Snes cartage would easily cost around 100 dollars.

  • i think its worth it

  • yea it worth it. but i dont make enough money to buy a 100 dollar game. I only work like 12 hours a week, and i lots of bills to pay. i go to school full time which costs me tons of money.

  • Try buying it for the DS. $40 most everywhere.

  • i would neeed to buy a DS

  • i would neeed to buy a DS and chrono trigger ds

  • I will agree with mel - I just played this game for the first time ever two summers ago and this game was a phenomenal amount of fun even by today's standards. I remember staying up until like 6am because I wanted to beat it so badly haha.

  • I can't wait for the DS release!

  • I'm 20 yrs old and I didn't get to play it until a couple years ago. It was good, but I wish I was able to play it when I was much younger. Things seem to be more enjoyable the younger you are.

  • I'm 18 and I played this game only a few months ago and I must say, it was one of the best RPGs I've ever played in such a long time. I don't think it would have the same effect if I had played it when I was younger.

  • Ain't that the truth...

  • The best RPG's are god as a kid, because they're fun and have good music. Whene you're older, you get to appreciate the storyline all the more, and the subtleties.

  • I'm 23 and I still find it possible to look at a game from a younger gamer's perspective. It becomes harder with the years... But not impossible ;)

  • after playing zelda oc when I was high on game juice in 98 even at 16, I always wanted to play mask of majora in the back of my mind for the last ten years. Even though I know I can't experience that purity again, I have now ordered it and a xpak off ebay for the dusty n64. I know infinitely more about the universe since OC from countless journeys through powerful telescopes, my mind and books. I will finish the mask of majora with a new brain and wonder about the past, time and something else?

  • Heh I played this for the first time when I was 6 along with FF6 and Link to the Past. That's probably why my heart will always be on the SNES.

  • i love this game!!i played 5 or 6 years ago..i was a fan!!and made a soundtrack cd...*.*

    this is my favorite music

  • they'd best put the 2 unused songs from the OST in the DS version.

ps: this song creeped me out as a kid.

  • They did. On the official site, if you look at a video from one of the new areas in the remake, you can hear the "Unused Battle Theme 2" as i like to call it in every battle there.

So, i don't know about the other one.

  • Wow, for some weird reason I remember this song more than any other.

    What place/places had this song?

  • cathedral stupid, hwa hwa hwa

  • Those toads under the sewers were so funny!

  • du bist doof! hwa hwa hwa

  • Why isn't Magus on the pic? Because he's an optional character? Man..

Song(s) own, game owns, characters own!! <3

  • Final Fantasy I-XII

    Chrono Trigger

    Rogue Galaxy

    Dark Cloud 2

All of those games kick major ass. The rest of the games are either meh, or absolute garbage.

  • I'll agree that mostly all the FF series kicked ass CT and CC kicked ass and Dark Cloud as well as Dark Cloud 2 majorly kicked ass

  • leave it to square-enix to make the best rpgs

  • Level 5 made Dark Cloud but yes lets leave it to Square Enix to make good RPGs.

  • Square Enix didn't make the Lufia series either.

  • but u can't deny that they made good rpgs though.

and im am aware of who made dark cloud 2, becuz i still play it xD

  • Sure they did, but there's terranigma, and tales of phantasia and **LUFIA II**. So I wouldn´t leave all the work to them.

  • Terranigma was actually made by Enix, who is now part of the Square-Enix mishmash :D

So teeeechnically, Square-Enix made it >.>;; Before Squaresoft changed it's name and had an affair with Enix.

  • Indeed. At least the best ones to date. Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy (VI, VII, Tactics)... and I'm still short. They even made Brave Fencer Musashi XD

  • Well...it wasn't Square-ENIX, but it was Squaresoft... I prefer what they did before the so called "fusion".

  • Yeah, me too. With the fusion, the Square's spirit is gone.

  • and Enix's. They used to make brilliant games like ActRaiser, Dragon Warrior and Illusion of Gaia

  • what about kingdom hearts? that had solid gameplay and a good story

  • the first Kingdom hearts was made by Squaresoft, not Square Enix or Enix.

  • @nintendofan133 I cant help but agree, but I try my best to ignore it and enjoy the gameplay xD

  • @Xehanor

And the last decent FF was made by Squaresoft too.. D:

    (10.)

  • @xmisogyny Indeed, X was the last to have all of the great staff members still working on the game, like Sakaguchi, Uematsu, and many who had been there since the first game.

  • @xmisogyny FFXII is way better than the X to me :P

  • agreed, you can see they keep trying to mix both parties's best things. I mean, seriously, a realtime battle system, in an rpg setting, that's like fusing illusion of time/gaia with final fantasy heh.

  • @bregowine: Yeah, Squaresoft had TALENT. Now they only have money hungry losers.

  • @VampyricalCurse Oh come on, that's not fair across the board; people can enjoy making money and doing their best work at the same time. Just look at akira toriyama xD

  • @Kelvinian Apart from they're not doing their best work. They're not even making half-arsed attempts. They know their fanbase will blindly buy bags of shit as long as it has that magical "Square____" logo on it and consider it a masterpiece, and they're abusing it. I totally agree with you on Akira's part, but as far as Square is concerned, gotta side with the other guy. x.x

  • @bregowine at least dragon quest is still just as amazing. fuck final fantasy, let it rot. give us more dragon quest and chrono!

  • @do0rkn0b meh, dragon quest seems to be growing into a wrpg very quickly so i wouldn't count on it, as for chrono, theres still hope. another game that seems to be going the right way in this generation is the last remnant, though you must remember that games will never truely be the same

  • @bregowine Squaresoft was iniciate a generation of the best´s RPG´S that nothing other company was produced

  • @bregowine In the business world, it's called a "merger", and it's not done for fans or customers, it's done for money.

  • So glad you included the best track off of the CT OST =D

  • How could you possibly say, Yasunori is better than Nobuo? They both created the songs in Chrono Oo

  • I like them both. Nobuo has created more epic pieces, though, while Mitsuda seemed to have more catchy themes. He also did music for Mario Party and Shadow Hearts, something that goes highly unnoticed and I don't understand why.

  • Yasunori Mitsuda for the win

  • Wasn't this one of the tracks composed by Nobuo Uematsu?

    Nobuo Uematsu for the win
