  • what a band, i grew up listening to these guys, on my silver sony walkman... ahh what a time to growing up... :-)

  • This is about the assassination of Colin Campbell of Glen Ure.Nobody knows who killed him to this day but James Stewart -James of the glen was blamed and hanged for his murder.James's body was placed inside a cage and left to hang near the bridge at Ballachulish. It was gaurded by soldiers to prevent anyone from cutting down his body.Colin Campbell is buried at Ardchattan Priory.

  • @RACHELTAYLOR7 I have often wondered about this song, I had imagained an assassination attempt against the fox, im one of the few scots who wanted to be a red coat lol thanks for the info on my favourite band

  • @RACHELTAYLOR7

What do you make of Anda Penman's disclosure in 2001, shortly before her death, that it was her ancestor, Donald Stewart of Appin, who had killed the red fox?

  • @IqbalHamid I didn't know that.It's very sad that a man died for something he didn't do.

  • Aye. Gods bless your soul, Stuart. There was never a band as this- probably never will be again.

  • Amazing, amazing song! We should have a Big Country convention.

  • @pjstudevent when and where???

  • @ficyn1 2013 - Glasgow!? Not kidding.

  • @pjstudevent in the USA

  • God, what a song.

  • awesome vid! thanks!

  • This is so good, I can't find the proper words to describe it...

  • COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER TWONKY!

  • The only bands i've listened to this much are Alice in chains, Blind Melon, and the lords of the new church.

  • Yes. And we did "get used to it". Quite. A natural progression, i would say. Still very good.

  • After the Crossing and Steeltown we had to get used to the new sound of The Seer. Anyway we got used to it!

  • True. Nothing by anyone can ever match The Crossing.

  • The Buffalo Skinners can but it took me a decade to discover... The Crossing was once in a lifetime.

  • @aarlevanbram Indeed. The Crossing is an amazing album.

  • Still, this is very similar to their original stuff compared to a lot of other stuff from this era of their songwriting.

  • It is but the production was different. I prefer either Steve Lillywhite or Big Country themselves.

  • Symbolic , heroic , strong , angelic , truthful , honest , educational , original , overlooked , unprecedented , loud , quality , fact , loving , but most of all spiritual ,This is Big Country fellas . . . .

  • One of the Greatest bands ever.

    Great album and great song.

I wish Stuart could have relized how much he is loved and missed by us his fans.

    RIP Stuart Adamson.

  • belive the lyrics refer to the shooting murder of murdo cambell (known as the red fox)by allen breack steuart after culloden. story made famous in robert louis stevensons kiddnapped. it is a historical fact the red fox was murdered and james steuart known as james of the glen was hanged for it by a jury of cambells. allen breack was never caught and died a pauper in france despite winng the french equivilint of the vc in the french army
