  • That gun sounds mint, pew pew pew

  • 4:47

  • When i first saw this master piece, it was going for the 150th week. the next time i checked, the sign outside the theatre, that was written with chalk, said 172end. week.

  • this movie is a true LEGEND !!!

  • I'm here because of the Keiser Report.

  • I love those westerns were there is practically no dialogue. I don't know it just makes it more realistic to me. I saw the movie Good For Nothing directed by Mike Wallis who did special effects for Lord of the Rings and he does the same thing the protagonist/antihero doesn't really say a word for like the first ten minuets. A tribute to Leone. youtube. com/watch?v=gRYZNCVeZDY

  • Hehe, looks like we... Looks like we shyeea one horse

  • how can a bombaclaat scene in old rastclaaart film be diz good?

  • It may be an understatement but this station platform is in bad need of a carpenter me thinks.

  • The passanger wagoon are RENFE (type NORTE and MZA)...

  • "YOU BROUGHT TWO TOO MANY" What an amazing statement!!!

  • Once Upon A Time in The West, showing you dont have to talk in a scene to still make it good

  • ...a Masterpiece deserves better than 240p!...

  • the guy on the right was a good shooter, that's why he killed em first, even though he did not draw.

  • The locomotives you see in this movie are Spanish locomotives. Sergio had his set people alter them to look like American locomotives.

  • Chuck Norris looked at Charles Bronson's eyes and pissed himself

  • The guy in the left of the screen over acts.

  • Holy shit I never thought about it but I guess this is a reference to High Noon...wow.

  • Leone absolutely perfected the typical "tough guy" behaviour and the "coolness" factor in his movies.

  • I just bought the movie and on the commentary track they said they put marmalade on Jack Elam's face and then released a jar of flies right next to him hoping one would land. Also a movie hand was about to oil the windmill and Sergio Leone said, If you oil that windmill I'll kill you.

  • @hunkatiel those are Christopher Frayling's words :p

  • @hunkatiel hahaha xD

  • you brought 13 horses too many

  • 5:15 Holy goodness f%¨&*ing epic creaking windmill!

  • It's nice to see the Mare's leg at 1:56....A firearm not unitized enough in westerns.....its a shame :(

  • This is one of the bad ass kick ass opening sequence of all time, coming from one of the greatest films ever. i showed this to my 13 year old brother. Liked it too.

  • Oh God shut up you WOMEN banging on about baths in a spaghetti western, go watch some Doris Day musical ffs

  • it's a shame charles bronson missed shooting 240p.

  • Too bad it was not the 3 stooges in the opening !

  • I love that you can really hear the true sounds of a real steam locomotive (up close & crystal clear). I've never heard this in any other western movie. Listen for it and try to block out all the other sounds and just focus on the sounds of the locomotive's steam. It sounds like the locomotive is alive (and breathing). Listen from 2:29 - 3:11 Thanks for posting this great clip. :-)

  • @Lapp6192 that was what they were getting at, each scene with a train has a different "heartbeat" ...calm and tense for the opening, quick with anticipation when we are introduced to Jill. One of the many subtleties of this amazing masterpiece.

  • @TheShadowcat6969 - Thanks ! I never realized that Sergio Leone made the locomotives heartbeat if you will, sound different to match what was going on in a particular scene. Very clever. Sergio was a genius....... :-)

  • SMFH

    You brought two too many....

  • just one word........ BADAZZ.....

They don't make em like this anymore and that is our lost.

  • The complete opening sequence is actually twice as long. Almost 15minutes.

  • 14 People voted on this video too many!!!!

  • Just realized he is holding the gun and the bag at the same time.

  • I'm assuming the shot at 2:18 is a homage to john ford.. One of my favorite movies ever!

  • Sergio leon should have atleast won 2 oscars for Good, bad & ugly and once upon a time in the west...great movies..a master class for all directors making junk these days.

  • @ninetykman

And a third one for Once upon a time in America

  • Steam Engine beat 2:29 - 3:10. Epic!

  • If you watch Rango, try spotting the various references to this scene in that movie. Especially in scenes in and around the town of Dirt.

  • Leone wanted the 3 guys at the station to be played by Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach - the 3 guys from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The audience would have been set up to think these were the stars of the film, only for Harmonica to arrive and gun them down.

  • It took sergio leone all day to get that water dripping right. A true man of detail.

  • amazing. the first time i saw this i wasn't bored at all. i thought it was the best opening sequence ever filmed.

  • Leone's way of showing passing time is pretty brilliant. Not only the water dripping on the hat, but that simple shot of the silo turning clockwise after the shootout. Even though this movie is way too long for it's story, it's still unbelievable.

  • Bad-ass scene. 0:18 for a moment there, i thought Jack Elam's tonghe was reaching for that damn fly like a chameleon or something

  • bronson looks like the kid from those Mad comics. with his creepy plasticy scary face

  • HBOMBforPresident. His name is Woody Strode. Also seen in "Spartacus" with Kirk Douglas and in "The Professionals" with Burt Lancaster to name just two.

  • Well...looks like....ha ha....looks like we're shy 14 horses.

  • I do not know of he did this scene with the fly coming on the actor and so on, but I am pretty sure that by today's standards, the fly would be a CGI one, and the guy would end up shooting some rocket laucher at it and get away coming towards us in slow motion while everything would explode behind him.

  • FRANK SENT US

  • Does anyone know the name of the actor who drinks the water off his hat?

  • @HBOMBforPresident Woody Strode

  • This is no ordinary movie dialogue whoever made this is a freaken Genius! This dialogue speaks of Algebraic Equations: they’re only 3 horses and 4 persons thus it shy 1 horse to accommodate the four. So it shys 1 horse’ thus shoot the 3 persons to cancel x over y equals = 1 is to 1 therefore 1 person can now ride the 1 of the 3 horses, that’s why bronson’s said ‘’you brought 2 too many.’’So far for me, no director can craft this kind at least in our contemporary times. fucking Brilliant!

  • @remedialy this movie was good, that explanation for why, was not

  • @remedialy are you taking the piss

  • @remedialy Nice basic math lol

  • @remedialy And this is by far the funniest comment I read this year.

  • @remedialy Queer boy

  • @remedialy It's Sergio Leone, have you really not heard of him? Watch his other Westerns too, they're all TOP CLASS

  • @remedialy i'm going to hope that this is sarcasm or else i'm going to guess that your mentally retarded

  • @remedialy no shit sherlock, i watched this movie 10 times over the years, and i never understood what they meant...thanx for explaining to me the very very advanced math...ur a genius with ur advanced math skills and yet u don't even know the name of the man behind this film. btw. his name is Sergio Leone /sarcasm

  • @remedialy You should change your name to remedialmath.

  • @remedialy I know you're being sarcastic...I hope you're being sarcastic.

  • @remedialy well yes it is brilliant but u forgot ...if we remake those movies one thing for sure ....my dialogue would be ....well we shy one horse hahahahaha...and actor should say ...that means the horses are gonna do double travelling......and remove his gun and shoots the guys .......then he whispers ..i was joking ...remove his hat taps it in his chest :P as if removing the dust and shows not even a sweat came out ...good kill :)

  • @MegaJimmyw

lol you guys are all mental.

  • @remedialy Well I would like to think that it is really that deep, but IMO it is much simpler. There are 3 horses, the gunman know he will kill all of the guys there, leaving only himself alive with 3 horses, so 2 too many.

  • @remedialy

    lol you are joking right?

  • "Sorry, we brought one too few"

"No, you brought two too many"

    Hell yeah!

  • why the men in western films are ALWAYS dirty and sweaty? i feel sick and my stomach comes to my mouth ıyyackk

  • @sahmaran933 Men are not supposed to be polished , today's society is making wimps of us. We should be running arround the woods, hunting a boar.

  • @Silverhazed

It was sorta evidential when cartoons were getting their violence toned down and whatnot. I'm from 1993 and it's a shame to see people getting more and more sensitive over little words.

  • @Silverhazed i dont mean men are supposed to be "polished" but isnt it disgusting to see these men dirty? yes i agree, they live in hot zone but they dont have to be 'this much' dirty. because i couldnt watch them how soever good they may be =)

  • @sahmaran933 people were dirty like this

  • @661Sunshine mm i dont think so man they couldnt be this much dirty

  • @sahmaran933 Yes they were, you would be surprised, people would die from diseases because they were very dirty

  • @661Sunshine they don't have to show us the dirtiness of these people, i mean i love western but i cant watch them without throwing up

  • @sahmaran933 it shows the reality of how life was back then

  • I love how Leone mixes arthouse style with western themes in his work - this film is probably the best example, save perhaps "Fistful of Dynamite," a highly underrated Leone film.

  • After "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" Sergio Leone didn't want to make another western. I'm really glad he changed his mind.

  • This movie gets better everytime I see it. Absolutely brilliant. This opening scene, IMO, is the best of any western. The direction and cinematography are top notch. I read somewhere that this film only had something like 30 pages of script. The story is largely told through the photography and not mindless chatter

  • The three guys are: Al Mulock, Woody Strode and Jack Elam. All are greats. And The Man is the only... Charles "El Hombre" Bronson.

  • The black guy was in Sparticus? Lawrence Olivier kills him?

  • the western lives on!!!!! watch it in the video response section and comment! thank you!!!

  • Magnificent opening. Please don't let anyone try and remake it!

  • @BassistsUtd I think someone already has.... /watch?v=yAADWxRjbH4&feature=related

  • Epic

  • @hadihadi222 Gotta be careful when you say that and think twice, cause it doesn't make you look smart. You're allowed to not like it but calling this boring is missing something on your behalf, trust me. Imagine you're having a conversation with...well, almost anyone in the world and you say: "this is boring", not smart.

  • This movie was 2000x better than High Noon... it was slower and the music added dramatic tension. That's why Sergio Leone movies are great

  • this is one of the few movies ever made where it's simply impossible to pick a single greatest scene.

  • terrific film but for me The Good The Bad and The Ugly remains the zenith of Leone's magnificent career

  • Why do the gunmen try to kill Harmonica if Frank doesn't even know who he is?

  • YOU DO NOT FUCK WITH CHARLES BRONSON!!!!!

  • Al Mulock at 2:50 . Took his own life on the set after shooting this scene.

  • 13 fellers aint from around heres, is they?

  • best part when Woody Strode loads his gun ;)

  • "You brought two too many." Right up there with the best lines ever.

  • Perhaps the greatest opening scene to any movie,

  • Do you guys know that in the opening scene Leone wanted to use Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cliff and Eli Wallach as Charles Bronson's opponents? That would have been beyond epic. Shame it did not happen.

  • @RenosG Gian Maria Volonte woulda been fucking epic also

  • @RenosG That would've probably pissed fans of the Dollars trilogy off.

  • @RenosG no he didnt ..unless you have proof, he wanted eli wallach to play frank and clint to play harmonica

  • @ThePurcy "Leone originally intended to reunite the three stars of Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo. (1966) (Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach) in cameo roles as the three gunmen waiting for Harmonica at the start of the film, but when Eastwood was unavailable the idea was scrapped." From imdb, so I'm not making things out of my a**. You are correct too but try to be more informed before commenting next time.

  • Cannot believe this was shot in 1968....

  • no question - this is the best western movie ever

  • @automatic98765 not really uses the same character archtypes present in the dollars trilogy, a good western but cant make a statement like that

  • In my opinion, the best western ever made.....a pure classic

  • @summersbr1

yes and right after this "the good the bad the ugly"

  • So, umm, what are the 3 guys doing there anyway? >_>

  • @icetyrant watch the movie?

  • @EvilKiwi436 I did. Were they there to kill Harmonica?

  • This is an almost perfect example of 'the rule of thirds' or Golden Ratio design.

  • @pimpinspartan this isnt the whole intro, the clip above is maybe the last 1/3 or 1/2 of it. So LoppIT is probably right

  • Comment removed

  • i would pay to see a movie about those three trios

  • "you brought two too many" ... and their smirks fade away ... just f*cking badass. Period.

  • He's not puffing his cheeks when hes playing the harp.

  • Jack Elam. What a face.

  • @longlivecrow

Jack Elam ? Who is he ? I mean, which one of the three ? The black dude ? The one who trap a fly in his revolver's barrel ?

  • @Briselance The guy who traps the fly. He's one of my favorite actors :)

  • Al Mullock, the blond haired bearded character who you see who is facing the camera and turning his head to look at the train approaching 1:59, committed suicide , still in his costume, by jumping from a hotel balcony.

  • @ruleofthespirit

why did he do so ? Got an idea ?

  • @Briselance Apparently he was a drug addict and couldn't get a fix where they were located (some small village in Spain) so he took a dive off the hotel roof. He didn't die of that. What killed him though was drive to hospital over the bumpy roads. He broken rib pierced his lungs. He should never have been moved. In the opening scene you will notice half way through that his face is not filmed. A stand in actor wearing the same costume took his place and you only see the figure of the character.

  • damn it, I'd like to klick my finger and find myself for one day on wild wild west:) Great scene witch fly :)

  • I s that 'SCAT MAN' Carutthers..out of the 'SHINING'...!!!!????

  • @zingoza No this is Woody Strode

  • this is pure fucking brilliant cinematography

  • @stephenlockard Actually no, it's veteran actor Woody Strode.

  • History! The best opening scene ever!

  • this story is about revange....it just took time to serve it..........

  • love his little headshake before he says "you bought 2 too many"

  • I saw the Film 1 year ago. I understood 2% of the Film, but it's EPIC and the Music is legendary

  • What this filmed in another country? the locomotives and cars look european,

  • @pennyf9

The famous opening sequence with the three gunman meeting the train was the last sequence filmed in Spain. Shooting at Cattle Corner Station, as the location was called in the story, was scheduled for four days and was filmed along the railway line near Estación de Calahorra, outside Guadix, Spain.

    From wikipedia.

  • You know you're fucked when someone says something like that "you brought two too many".

  • 11 guys cant play harmonica :P

  • Legendary

  • This is not the original cut. This version has been doctored.

The original version:shows clearly how Bronson is already holding his gun in his hand, from a back angle: not from the side shot when he draws. The basket is hiding the fact he is already holding a gun pointed straight at them.

The original version shows how he just lets the basket fall and slides the gun out from under the basket handle and shoots. That's why he got off 3 shots before they could draw their weapons and shoot.

  • Guess those 3 guys haven't yet mastered bullet time #red dead redemption

  • Those guys would have been able to see him step off the train on the other side.

  • @dancinkindofguy Wooow who cares !!

  • @tukimelibozaowo Sorry for annoying you.

  • Comment removed

  • Gentlemen, it's not that we don't have actors like Charles Bronson and the like nowadays, but it's Hollywood execs who decide to use lots of 1 dimensional actors (2 at best) to play in lots of commercial movies.

There's still movies with awesome actors out there, but they were either flops or Oscar baits, it's because the execs refuse to promote this kind of movies.

The exceptions are still available, but we need more hardboiled actors.

  • "You got two too many."

    Damn, son.

  • got 4 horses? "looks like were 1 short"

oh no, looks like your 2 too many. "what"?

    bang bang bang

  • yes west kill europe is endtime!!!

  • Al Mulock, the actor who plays the bad guy clicking his knuckles, committed suicide while filming this opening scene...he threw himself out of his hotel window in Gidaux, Spain, where they were on location...he was still wearing his western costume. Another actor who was the same height and build as Mulock had to be brought in so they could finish filming this sequence

  • x people y

  • Too much dialogue for nine illiterate.

  • 8 people didn't bring a horse.

  • why do cowboys have weird behaviors?

  • @TheOrdinary85 In this case, cause they are all badasses!

  • If you can make an opening sequence where not a single word is spoken the first 8 minutes, then sir, you are legendary.

  • @Lopplt

Its more like 4 minutes u fucking retard!

  • @davidandersson1983 coolstory broski

  • @davidandersson1983 omg stop insulting moron -.-

  • @Lopplt SO true!!!

  • @Lopplt Then Stanley Kubrick is automatically legendary.

  • @Stiny114 But of course, he's just pretentious. Leone's much better.

  • @Dodo251 Sure, he's pretentious. But Leone was too. Clint Eastwood absolutely hated the guy. They were both perfectionists also. In The Good, the Bad, and the ugly, even though Eli Wallach died twice. They still made him redo both scenes. That's perfectionism.

  • @Lopplt Indeed!! Gr8 & for effect you have a fly buzzing!!!
