the 2 stroke detroit diesels are the most versital motors ever built, you can turn the engine completley around to reverse the revs, you can hook the side by side through a gearbox, bolt them end to end, and in fact, the old city buses had a detroit sitting on the side with a 90 degree oil pan, the only engine ever made to run with an absess of air.You can actually put a brick on the gas pedal and let it rev full throttle with out hurting the engine.
unless your governor is set wrong, then it will overspeed and fly apart pretty quick... but normally that's right. They're tough engines! The military ran 3-53's in the gama goat 6x6, with an aluminum block and a turned up governor that let them rev out something like 3200 rpm.

In fact, this Detroit Diesel 3-53 is a 6V53 cut in half.

This Detroit Diesel 3-53 may also power an old Oliver tractor, eh?

I looked around the 'net, looks like they were used by Oliver also. They also used 4-53's.
