Complaining about it looking cheesy is like complaining about a music video from the eighties having too much synthesizer - it is an aspect of the time, not the product itself. The fact is that this was all hand drawn. In the eighties and nineties anime was done by hand, giving it that darker, more defined look unlike all that overly colorful computerized garbage they shove down our throats these days.

I agree. Ninja Scroll was the best ninja anime in my opinion. Crying Freeman looked ok. not great. Wicked City I heard was graphic. But I wouldn't mind checking it out. Golgo 13 and Genocyber I havent seen yet. But of course I have seen Street Fighter 2 and Vampire Hunter D. Those were not bad. But yes anime is not what it used to be:(

Really because the companies feel Americans have expanded their sense of entertainment-when they translated them they felt American audiences would only watch if it had loads of profanity. In the original language of some of these animes there is little to no cursing at all. Remember Akira-the original English translation where Tetsuo says "Bitching!..I feel like I can take on the world today!" In the original he dosen't at all.

One thing I learned when I bought this on DVD was how unbelievably polite the Japanese script was for being such a violent title. As a subtitle snob, I have to say I actually preferred the attitude that the dub had. Except for the little girl. Whoever did her voice was just really bad at child-like voices.

Also, I like how just about the only bit of dialogue that's exactly the same in the sub and the dub is the bit about the toxic waste. lol
