Americans have been lied to. I compiled a blog titled "Corporate Executives Deny 57 Million Americans Healthcare - by Bill Woollam" Just Google that.
The US health care system is one of the worst in the world and has been compromised by the US Administration, the Health Insurance and Management Offices, and American Medical Assoc.
Can., Britain, France,Cuba, Austalia have hassle free, debt-free, comprehensive, universal health plans where every citizen receives health care with no added costs

After living with the NHS in the UK for many years all I can say is you do not know what you're talking about if you think national health is the answer THERE ARE DEATH PANELS, PEOPLE ARE REFUSED MEDICATION AND SERVICES!! AND IT IS DOWN TO THE MISUSE OF MONIES PAID IN BY ALL TAX PAYERS (NIC).
Health care must be tackled by common sense, true compassion and
NO GOVERNMENTAL INTRUSION.
The Royal Mail is a bottomless pit, NHS is a bottomless pit. Big companies use private insurance in the UK.

what is soooooo wrong with a national health care system, free health care for evreyone, whats worng with that, sure your taxes will get raised a LITTLE,but what would you rather tax increases or a loved one with a chronic ilness dying because they dont have insurence or having to sell your home to pay for your healthcare?
I'm a Scot living in Canada! High-fives for free health care! Though we have incremental income taxe, if you earn $80,000+, the income tax you pay is enormous. But fuck, I'm having an operation in March and not having to pay a single cent for it is amazing.
I am amongst the 85% of Americans who is verrrry happy with their healthcare insurance. None of the 15% without insurance gets turned away from emergency rooms and clinics... if they were themedia would be all over it.
Why does the government want to dismantle our current system for the 15%? Why not develop a program for the 15%? it's clear in that the government wants to control us you idiots.
i duno if 85 percent are really happy with not being able to truly depend on coverage from a company but if 15 of people are rushed into hospitals and are treated for something, that is billlions of money out of taxpayers wallets to pay for that treatment. and then if you try to charge them, they go bankrupt and cant pay for it anyways. 15% of people would go bankrupt, awesome system, good job democracy, looking out for the little guy
@mauimahina I've just been diagnosed with Parkinson's and I'm already getting letters from the insurance company saying I haven't paid for my coverage, when my insurance is paid through my job. Every time I get a letter (3 so far) I have to go to HR and get proof that they paid and send it to them. How is that for satisfied customer. Don't be selfish, there are plenty of people who get screwed on a daily basis by insurance companies.
I'll tell you a secret......(they don't care about you; they just want your money.) I read their intranet "news" where they boasted of their soaring stock price and profits, then filed letters of denials to paying customers.
I worked in the "Medical Review Dept" for Kaiser, which reviews insurance apps and rejects all the "high-risk ones", and reviews the applications of expensive patients to see how to drop them.
That is a shame... Health care ought to be a right in the United States, it is in Canada anyways (in our constitution). Denials, and high risk status does not determine the eligibility of a Canadian (citizen) to receive treatment. Ultimately, I strongly agree with you.
Europe loves Europeans more than America loves Americans. Your governments let you live and not die from curable illnesses. Maybe our government will do what we elected them to do: give every single American the ability to receive timely healthcare. We know that you have this in Europe. We want to live, too.
I live in europe, and I always was looking up to America thinking what a wonderful country this must be where everything was great. But afther watching all the news over here about the American healthcare, I am starting to of think Amerika is a third world country, where people are dying of curable illness becourse they dont get good medical treatment
We have the greatest healthcare... ask any Canadian who comes here for treatment... our system isn't perfect but at least 85% of our people are happy with their coverage... the other 15% most of whom are illegal aliens are the ones who a plan should be devised for.... don't take away my good healthcare to fix the 15% asswipe!
mauimahina So your telling me you have got the greatest healthcare? The American healthcare is still the healthcare of a thirthworld country, witch is a BIG shame! Its selfish people like you (don't take away my good healthcare) who could not care less if people are dying, they are human beings, and the way you are calling them "asswipe" tells us a LOT about your character. Its only ME,ME, you care about.
Ive found that there are a lot of people that feel intitled to every thing in life always feel cheated!! They need to get cut off not given more! Many people look to the government to provide for them.
Oh ya we can always have national health care. Just like in the Netherlands where they dont even provide senior's with critical care. they just send them home with good cocaine and say good bye.
I dont want my government to control health care!!! I want to control my own!
A....people in the Netherlands live longer than we here in the States do....that's probably why they don't provide critical health care. Go ahead and control your health care! Nobody's gonna force you to do anything. Don't do anything...Isn't that a republican mindset?
Quality of health care is not solely based on life expectancy! In Norway there is an average three year wiat before hip replacement is provided. In Canada half of all hospitals sent expectant mothers home for at least one full day because they where FULL.
All of htese proport an average life expectancy a hlf to full year longer but this may be due to other reasons like race.
There are simply some disease''s that certain sectors of our society seem to get.
And where did you get that information, some replublican advertisement claiming that socialized medicine is not as good as ours? Wake up amigo! You're being lied to! How do I know? I have a brother living in Canada, and a brother and sister living in Australia. Both countries have a Nationalized healthcare system. You should talk to people who actually enjoy that kind of system instead of listening to politically-motivated information that's keeping us Americans misinformed.
You are being fed specious facts. How do you know what the hip replacement wait time is in Norway? What is in in the US? In the US we had to specifically pass a law to prevent insurance companies from kicking out mothers after one day. I still remember the debate. The repubs were against interfering with insurance companies rights to kick out new moms the same day.
Information came from family in Norway. His father was put on list after surgery was recomended. That was average wait. My wife just back from Norway. Regarding canada was gotten during an interviewwith a member of the canadian government. In this he defended the 2 month wait for MRI saying "Emergencies get moved ahead line" People dont know injuries (diagnosed properly) can be repaired however if there is a wait before surgery say, more than 4 weeks then repair may not be done.
So your information is hear-say and anecdotal, not actually statistical and verfiable. You really that that is not valid in law, science, policy or even a high-school report. Basically you are saying that somebody told you this therefore it must be trust.
I can tell you stories too. I have freinds that are canadioan and bristih that absolutely love those systems. In fact everyone I know who is british and canadian loves those systems. I know americans who wait months for surgery and hate it.
Did my hearsay anecdotal evidence convince you? It shouldn't because it is as worthless as yours. If your boss asks you for a report on trends in the economy and you tell him that your freind is doing well in real-estate and thinks everyone is, you'll get fired for incompetence. If you assert "facts" be prepared to back them up with something more than rumors. Also you never had a baseline comparison. What is the wait time in the US for hip replacement?
Michalchik...Well the inforamtion I said was from MY FAMILY! And also from the Government of Canada! So you are WRONG WRONG WRONG! I have twenty years in working on Finanacing health care and am VERY succsesfull at it!! Corperations, Healthcare providers as well as Health insurance companies have underwritten many millions in risk based on my work. Maybe, just maybe, you should be a little more humble in your approach!! My experience though is that you probably wont be.
You want a base line on the waiting period for a hip surgery in the US? If you have a diagnosis and have established medical nescesity (doc recomends it) You can have a pre-op physical generaly within a week and the surgery one -three wks after. Maybe month total. At least in Fl., IL, Mi. and Wi. I could provide evidence of just that time line being done! The only time people generaly wait is if they CAN and SHOULD try physical therepy first. OR
If soneone has other health conditions that they must get over first.. Like some infection or something. Frequently there is other illness or conditions affecting the patient. There are a few well known facilities and Doctors that have people lining up to have them do the surgery. This is because of their personal reputation. SO people may WANT to wait for those surgeons. But that is their CHOICE!!!
Hey Michalchic Obama Sited two individuals in his speech last night! One woman that died of breast cancer and one man that man that had gall stones. If you are correct about valdity of personal experiences then maybe you should fire him!!
I was entirely unimpressed by his inclusion of anecdotes in his speech. but because there are lots of stupid people that are impressed by such things it was politically expedient if manipulative. One that sadly has been repeatedly used by every president since Reagan because it is such a good propaganda techniques.
I am not interested in what you imagine the time-line might be.You can tell me as many stories as you like and I can make up stories about any other medical system and clain I have insight. I can imagine that insurance companies delay proceedures for years in the hope that patients will die or give up. You need to deliver some facts that can be independently verified. Haven't you ever written a report for school? Do you know what a citation is? Is backing up your assertions too hard for you?
Apparently you don't know what hearsay and anecdotal evidence is. Look it up I don't have time or space to educate you.
Thanks for inadvertently admitting that you have a conflict of interest. In an effort to establish your Bona Fides you have admitted you are one of the parasites sucking American health-care dry, driving up costs for your own enrichment and perfectly happy to let people go without as long as your bottom line is fine. Anything you say now is suspect.
I was not inadvertant in my statement of experience. You sound as one that is focussed on having me provide for you!! You are now only engaged in trying to impeach my statements. why dont you offer any facts rather than stories?? Just call your local hospital and ask how far they have thier surgical center schedule filled. You will probably find I am correct. You seem like a brat that cannot do this though!
michalchik Your slander makes me sad for you. I will also say I believe that personaly and profesionaly those I have touched would probably line up and spit on you for slandering me. I wonder if you could say the same about your work and life??
Illegal Aliens do not deserve healthcare; , the ones who are doing all the dirty work for you. You focus too much on them but totally miss the fact that there are legal citizens who are abusing you and treating you, the average Joe, like a total ignorant, for their own gain. Everyone deserves to be healthy, brother. Even the most useless person because they're human. It's the humane thing to do. Ted Kennedy was right. Healthcare is a right (a human right), not a privilege.
Hey ngern. Why do I need to provide for you like that. I totaly disagree with you !!
Do you help people in your community or are you just another user?? Get out and help your neihbor by doing something like volunteer fire and rescue or first responder medical. Then come back and tell me how much medical care I owe you. Owe... by the way I DO those things and I dont feel I am Owed anything!! I also dont want to pay your way!!
As an American I think we should really be like the Canadians and they're health care. I work at a hospital and I've seen people pretend they're ok to go home to they don't have to pay for another night in the hospital. It's truly pathetic. Our government is corrupt. Our insurance companies should burn in hell. I don't have health insurance. I cash out every time. I like being in charge of my money. Not these greedy heath care CEO's which by the way are responsible for 12 million deaths a year.
Other countries before they went with a universal health care system were skeptical too, but now that they have seen the light at the end of the tunnel, they would never ever dare go back to a privatized system. Your US senators enjoy free public health care, why shouldn't you too America? You got another chance for real change, don't blow it like in 93.
this is democracy "free country" i mean freedom of corporate greedy people to do what they want sky is the limit profit. AKA Deregulated market fuck!
This is what the legacy of the americans to our country fucked up health care unreachable prices of medical services and medicines and college tuition. 5 times the original price.
Three years ago when I was laid off, to continue with COBRA coverage for a family of three (husband/wife/child), it cost me $1100 per month--just for medical coverage, that is, no dental and vision. I wanted just to cover my son and wife, but the insurance company would still charge me $1100 for two people. You have no choice but to stay with that, because we were afraid of possible deny with new insurer due to pre-existing conditions, even though we understand the HIPPA certificate.
Some people deserve to get help with their health care, but not illiegal aliens or dead beats who can afford health care and choose not to have it. I am not going to pay for those people. I have experienced government run healthcare, and it ain't pretty. I would rather pay more taxes to get rid of illegal aliens.
If there is an enforced National Health ID Card, with heavy security, ID chip, photo etc, it would eliminate illegals from leaching the system and only American citizens would benefit from it.
Let me tell u something:THERE'S NOTHING SOCIALIST ABOUT PUBLIC MEDICAL HEALTH CARE!And what's up with the doctors over there?(I'm a medical student n i know that u must have greed in order to succeed, but there's a line here! actually, more like o big hole, that even though you see it you're willing to cross it over! don't u remember when u got in college, and u used to say u wanted to help ill people?does it help them, to deny them an assistance when they need in order to get a reward? SHAMEFUL
i live in brazil and we truly have problems here when it comes to treating the ill, but america's situation is way worse. i know this is not my place to be, but how did you let your health system turn into something like that? it's all ruled over by the greed from those medical care owners who won't help when really need. When hillary clinton wanted to change this situation,u all let urself get manipulated by them thru media,n all they had to do was use the 'socialist threat' as an excuse.
Public health care that is run by the government is the best way to go. We have it Canada. I live in Alberta and health care is free. You don't need pay premium.
It is free for everyone. Why are Americans so afraid of public health care?
Most of Americans WANT government health care, like 72%! but you wouldn't know that by our fascist television news programs, which only reports the news of one side. This is not the America I want!
It's time to get the post office out of the private delivery business and save our UPS and Fedex!! I want to be able to choose who sends my packages!! Government is controlling my shipping weight!
mdrayton100 -right on, the US spends 16% of our GDP on healthcare, by far the most in the world, the average household spends $8k a year yet we rank #36 on overall healthcare- insurance co's average 30%+ of our premiums for administration costs (including CEO bonuses), social security & medicare run on a 3-4% administration costs, paying the same amount we pay now but by triming the administration costs to even a 10% level we could cover all the uninsured and possible still save money-
you can call me a socialist...i except, if my taxed money is to help those who cant afford health care....but to issue at hand...i make 50k a year...i have been at my job for 7yrs and have had the same insurance..when i started my employer was paying 6k a yr and i was paying $65mthly..now they pay 9k a yr and i pay $110 mthly..the cost has almost doubled..my employer payed ovr 52k and you know.. my total medical bills for those 7yrs totaled 13k..wheres the money.. we need a public plan..now
Leaving999,chew on this: In 2007,1% of the population of this country "earned" 33% of the income. Taking into account that social security withholding stops after $108,600,that means that the concentration of income among a small number of individuals results in less money for social security, hence the fear of of SSI running out of money. You can be a part of society as someone who believes in working together when appropriate or you can go for all you can for yourself.Sociopath vrs. socialist.
Leaving999.....I meant to say Italy also...... The saddest part about our medical empire is they wont tell you about the natural cures for ailments u may have they push the dope....fact,cancer cannot exist in the human body if you keep it in an alkaline state.......why dont they want you to know this Mr. LEAVING999......hmmm, oh yeah! i forgot cancer treatment is a multi billion dollar business in our great country.........
If you let that type of thinking prevail on the part of a minority in this country, you certainly do not deserve a humane society. Let the Globalization sham continue to offshore your jobs. Join the race to the bottom, there's plenty of company, billions of others. I was once proud of this country but there are now so many lazy, ignorant 'sheeple' who just let life wash over them. They just live here, this is not 'their' country. 'Taxpayers', 'consumers', that is what they are called now.
You sound awful socialistic, may I remind you what happened to the last major socialistic country in the world(other than China). It collapsed economically because there was no incentive to make money because everything belonged ot the government already.
Then why do we have the most expensive healthcare in the world and yet we rank 39th......and yes most people enter the healthcare world as doctors because yes they do like the field, but the money you can make is also an attractive factor.....never met a middle class doctor......
Leaving999, there is no way to avoid using the 'commons' of today's society. Water, food safety, education, defense, tgransportation networks and facilities, police, fire protection. No doubt you have benefited by these all. Where there is a necessity for something and savings by pooling resources to provide them, it is rational to 'socialize' them. Health care is an area where it makes sense as well. It makes no sense to allow a small number of people to become enriched off of health care.
Hmmm, about half the budget is spent on the Pentagon, not much protest over that. There is an occupation in 2 distant lands with U.S. military deaths over 4,000, where's the protests? Oh, that's right, they voluteered. So, many people don't think that the top 2% should'nt have to contribute more, that would be unfair. "Why should I have to pay for someone else?" Why indeed? Why should you think about anyone but yourself and to try and get as much as you can for your self?
I think there have to be better ways to do it than unfairly taxing a minority. Offering larger tax breaks for more substantial charitable giving is a good way to do it, for example. The problem is in putting a system in place which punishes people who work hard or have ambition and a drive to succeed. I don't oppose taxing the rich, but taxing them more and punishing them for being successful through their own merit sounds unfair to me and I am lower middle class.
Unfairly taxing a minority? You must be kidding. Passive income, dividends, is taxed at a rate of 15%, regular income is commonly at least 30%. Last year the top 1% took in 33% of income. The unfair part is that the top 1/2 of 1% have a lot more to say about our financial, trade, mfg., and political systems. Perhaps you have resigned yourself to being a wage slave in this society. I am not too hot on the idea and neither should you. I have an upper middle class background. So what!
We all need to relize that healthcare in america is a privilege not a right. Nomatter how you look at it if you cant afford it you dont get it. What we need to ask ourselfs is should we all be coverd or not? Should we all have the right to go to school or not? Should we all have a law enforcment patrolling our streets or not? There is no right or wrong answer, after all its about what you think not what is moral or just.
I don't think socializing healthcare will solve anything. All it will end up doing is killing old people and people the goverment deems not worth the money. Every doctor I talk to has hated the idea. The system needs reform, specifically the disaster that is Medicaid, which drives up the price of everything from what I have read of it. Why would you trust something as evil, greedy, and inefficient as the federal goverment with your life? You think you will fare better with them? Really?
the doctors dont want it because they r making money right now!!!! This isnt about the population and whats good for them!!! its about back room meetings of the powerful who have a great game going on and now it will be transformed....
How does you reasoning put the blame on the Doctors? There is a severe shortage of Doctors - and will be for years to come. Reduce the Drs. pay - they move on to something else (remember - Drs are smart people) then you have no healthcare!
Ranet, look deeper into this problem and the biggest culprit is the big pharmas.....and i'll say it again, we r raised to believe that doctors should be wealthy, lawyers also, why??? because both occupations r necerssary.....there is no reason why anyone should have to lose their house because they needed surgery.....its a big sham!!!!! but your thinking is not on the same page as mine......
Because doctors and lawyers go to school for much longer than anyone else. Why should anyone go to school for eight to twelve years and rack up huge debt in student bills when they don't get paid more? They earn that money. Nothing except lazyness or lack of ambition is stopping you or anyone else from going to school and becoming a doctor or lawyer.
If you work hard at something you should be rewarded more than the lazy people who didn't. What is the problem with this paradigm?
You know, not all doctors and lawyers make exorbitant amounts of money, and the average pay for each of the professions is below Mr. Obamas "250,000 a year limit". And the average for lawyers isn't even in six figures(i'm not sure about doctors). We don't need to Spend a trillion dollars to remedy the situation, that'll only make things worse, and most doctors are in their professions because they love the medical field, not because they want to make money.
The doctors have to charge as much as they do because of all the litigation they need to avoid. This idea that doctors are meeting in secret to screw people out of their money is absurd. There needs to be change but the goverment is the problem here, not the doctors. Goverment is the reason things are so broken and we are gonna give them total control now and expect things to be different.
Emotions are toxic to rational thinking. Don't let all this Good vs Evil propoganda sway your feelings.
got a bill from hospital after i cut my arm.......stitches= 482 dollars, administrative fees= 212 dollars, the bandage and wound treatment= 185dollars
So really, when we view Insurance within another context, like roads (if they were privatized), or the postal system (which is socialized), or private/public school systems (mixed) we can better understand the debate of health care and remove some of the rheotoric and fear.
the insurance company for years didn care that me and my family had a trampoline and about two weeks ago forced us to tae it down!!!!!!!! i post a video response to this vid of a vid i made as a tribute to my trampoline! check it out some time!
This is so funny and so true. They do play it their way and if they don't like the rules they lobby Congress pay lots of cash and get the rules changed in their favor. We need to take a stand.
I was just run over by the current system. I got caught without a job or insurance when the illness hit. The current system has screwed me good. I need help but I'm just outside the qualifications for assistance. I now owe over 20K and have no income.
Heres a rundown of money that the people who are blocking real reform in health care have received from the health care industry: Specter ($4,02m) Baucus ($2,8m) McConnell ($2.7m) When you take a look at Big Insurance, the non-presidential candidates who got biggest legalized bribes were the 7 senators tasked with the job of killing single-payer: Nelson ($1.1m) Baucus ($1.1m) Lieberman ($1.03m) Specter ($1.03m) Schumer ( $0.98m) McConnell ($0.93m) Grassley ($0.88m)
I have worked in this industry for many years. I have been to New Orleans. I was part of the Hurricane relief Team in 05 & 06 and you can not tell me this video is 100% true! Look up the AAJ top 10 worst insurance companies. It speaks for its self.
I don't understand the logic of "insurance companies aren't held accountable for their initial agreements" therefore, we should have government run insurance. Reform the laws to hold the companies accountable - don't just give it away to government. You want accountability? Go to the DMV or go through the court system to see how accountable the government is.
Actually, Obama's plan gives you a choice. You can choose a public health insurance plan like Medicare, or you can choose a private insurer's plan. And they ALL have to play by the SAME rulesnot cherrypick who they'll cover or exclude by pre-existing conditions or changing your coverage out of the blue. If the private insurers truly are competitive & interested in providing health coveragerather than reaping windfall profitsthey shouldn't have any problem. Right?
It is similiar to choosing public or private schools for your kids. Personally, I think by putting kids in private schools, you take money out of the public system which could make better schools for all, including the world in which your own kids will have to play and work in. However, this is America and money talks. At least those who put their kids in private schools still have to pay taxes which go towards schools for all.
That is debatable. I feel that no matter how much money we flush into that toilet we call our public school system it won't get better because the system is broken and run by corrupt officials and the teachers union. I don't support public healthcare at the cost of private healthcare for that very reason. It will undoubtably be as broken and shitty as our public schools are. You are just replacing the greedy insurance company with the greedy federal goverment.
Imgine if a corporation owned all the roads. Imagine if you had to buy your driver's license. Basically imagine that roads were run the way airports are.
The lines at the DMV may suck but if a corporation ran it then they would charge you whatever you could afford to pay because they know you have to drive. So I can easily imagine it costing $100 a month for a license to drive.
And then there would be tons of restrictions and fees for things like "left turns".
Jesus Fuckin Christ! We need to incarcerate the CEO's of these Goddam Private Health Insurance Companies such as Aetna, etc. What these guys get away is absolutely criminal. I don't know what it's going to take for America to realize that we essentially need a single payer healthcare system in this country.
The last time I had insurance the claims adjusers had Sarah Palin accents and nothing was payable. It was a PPO with $5,000 deductable. You had to use a network doctor. None of the doctors took new patients. The CEO of the company is one of the highest paid in the country. My friends in France go the doctor when they want for a tiny co-pay. The care is excellent.
Are people in your area required to use health insurance companies? I live in Ohio and it's my choice to buy into a health plan. I have one from my employer that covers most things, I pay for the rest. It costs me a couple hundred buck a pay period. I'm not forced into the plan and I know it's a for profit entity like any other corporation...so what's the big deal?
The problem is with long term disabilities. Insurance companies hate paying these and will do whatever it takes to not pay, i.e. deny the claim outright, call it a pre-existing condition, cancel it on a technicality, force you to get evaluated by their own bought-and-paid for doctor. Whatever. It is contract fraud and all insurance companies have whole departments to work toward upwards of 45% claim denial. Most claimants give up eventually. It is fraud.
Hilarious video and oh so true, to quote an earlier commenter. Here's the final verse of my Raging Grannies comment on American medical care [sung to the tune of 16 Tons]:
I know. Insurance companies focus on people that try to defraud them. It happens. But insurance companies label them and then sub-consciously apply the label to many claimants and especially long term disability claimants. Insurance co's look at long term disability as fraud in 45% of the cases. They work to deny 45% of claims. It starts with that attitude and allows them to guiltlessly defraud many of their clients.
The President and congress have great healthcare. I don't hear any complaints from them and yet I see tons of insurance company assholes telling us we would not like it. Keep it as is. Take your nickel a post crap back to the insurance companies. Change is coming for the better. I would rather stand in line and get healthcare than get none.
The problem is the third party. Whether it is an insurance company or the government, he who pays controls the transaction.
Right now, the insurance company controls a lot of transactions, but not under threat of criminal sanctions. If the government controls health care transactions, your care and choice will suck, and it can put you in jail.
Don't get why people support a government which screws up pretty much anything it touches in charge of health care.
The system needs a lot of work, but universal is not the answer, I spend time abroad and those sytems are generally counter innovative. One thing is for certain your taxes will go way up.. Get rid of the curruption and kick-backs would be a starting point.
breaking away from the free market is a bad idea for anyone with any ambition...why go to college and grad school and residency for an average salary...
I think you're mistaken. The only docs with those are doctors who do not take insurance and only take cash. Don't confuse physicians with hospital administrators, insurance companies, and sleazy lawyers who will sue any doc for anything. These are the people who are hurting both doctors and patients.
I love people who blame trial lawyers for problems in the medical field. Have you ever done any research into how few med mal cases are successful these days? Very, very few of these cases are even filed anymore, and even fewer are successful. Why? Because state laws make them almost impossible to win. If you want to find someone to blame, blame the malpractice insurance carriers who are charging premiums and deductibles so high doctors can't afford them. It's the insurers who are getting rich.
all evil will be gone by 2012 so let them enjoy few more years;modern medicine is clueless about diseaes anyway so I dont really understand people going to MDs
This may be the best video on Youtube right now. 5*.
It's true though, why play fair when the American people already bend over for you? To do list for America: New President (!!!), new health care system, new foreign policy (!)... in fact, why don't we just replace all of 'em? Last I checked, the "Democratic" Congress hasn't done jack either. A few extra pennies for minimum wage? Wow, great.
If Congress had any kind of power and/or decency, they'd have already passed universal healthcare.
Total crap. Insurance is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the country. Socialized medicine? Try suing the government when THEY screw you.
Just imagine how much more money doctors could make if we cut out the middle man. We have united health care, premium keeps going up while benefits are decreasing. Take some of our tax money and fund universal healthcare or don't charge us tax so we can afford health insurance. We don't need to spend $300Billion on defense. What are you wanting to do start a war or something, oh wait a minute...
that's what I meant... you don't have to live there! when has socialism EVER worked? why do we think this will work? this is not the answer, and the problem isn't even right... the problem is we want it free and it doesn't work that way.
I'm willing to pay for GOOD medical care. The deal is here in the U.S., we're paying plenty & getting garbage. 30% of what you pay is wasted on middlemen. The rest goes into a CEO's pocket. Doctors aren't making as much as they used to, and hospitals are going bankrupt. Profits & health care do not match.
I have been to the U.K. 7 times. I have used the medical system there five times. Each time I offered to pay, but they declined my offer.
got2, people who "think" like you are preventing us from making any progress in reforming our failing health care system. We aren't talking about socialism. We ARE talking about how to get better health care to more Americans. I have dozens of Canadian relatives, and not one of them would trade their system for ours. I don't blame them. I wouldn't either.
Are you F'ing retarded? Stupid american. Socialism is working RIGHT NOW in Germany and other European countries. Poor america, falling down just like the Roman Empire. How does it feel to be a washed up has-been?
uhmmm.... Google german retirement or french, both systems are failing. if America's falling now, Europe fell a long time ago.
my point isn't that the system we have is great, it's very much broken. The way to fix it though is not socialism, that would be MUCH more expensive and isn't allowed by our constitution. We need DEREGULATION and government to stay out of health care, that is what started this mess in the first place, but we only remember our experiences. Canadian's healthcare sucks
Like any form of gambling, insurance companies need to be regulated. Their bookies (umm...sorry, I guess they call them actuaries) set the odds, the government is supposed to regulate the house cut...supposed to. Kinda hard when the house is called upon to adjudicate the very thing gambled upon. "Oh, sorry, your boat hasn't sunk, it's just sitting lower in the water." Yeah, lower in the water...by 100 fathoms.
Deregulation means more control of our lives by wealthy corporations. Mass accumulation of wealth is enforced by the state through the police and military. democratically voted upon regulation is good for not only the masses of people, but good for business.
There's enough jobs in health care if we start funding it like Defense to provide for and treat everyone. (Forget this neoclassical economics, and let's take a fresh look at potential growth in our economy. Services are going to be at the top of the list, along with online business.)
Funny and Creative Video! The voting public seems to finally get it - The insurance companies have no interest in providing health care, just making a quick buck.
That said, I would not be opposed to a system where each of us has to pay a fair premium and co-pays, but with oversight and regulation of the industry to a) create pools so that no one can be denied coverage, cancelled or charged exorbitant rates and b) there are no caps on how much treatment one can receive and c) providers cannot charge exorbitant prices for services.
Capitalists love to say that socialized medicine in other countries is horrible, bla bla bla. I have yet to hear anyone from those countries complain about it except possibly that they had to wait a while for a non-urgent procedure. People in France, the UK and Canada don't die needlessly or lose everything they have because they got sick. They get the care they need.
It's a sad comment when we believe we can't have a government that can work. A few examples of how government can work- in the 1990's FEMA, the VA and Medicare became the and most effective governmment programs. At 1/5 the overhead of insurers, medicare offers better coverage at lower costs than insurers, to the sick and healthy. The private insurance system is a failure, because of adverse selection. Why are we 38th in world for health outcomes despite spending far more than anyone else?
The health care system (or lack thereof) in the US is absolutely ridiculous, and it's fucked me over more than a few times. Insurance is for things like cars and boats. Your health isn't just some commodity that you can do without, it's life or death.
In case you're not aware, every single nation that has universal healthcare has lower costs than the United States -- and in many of those nations (e.g. France, Switzerland, Austria, ...) they have equal access to the latest medical technology, fewer waiting lists than in American health care, and NOBODY DYING BECAUSE HEALTH INSURERS REFUSE TO PAY THE BENEFITS THEY WERE CONTRACTED TO PAY. Sad to say, American health care is not #1 anymore, and hasn't been since the mid 1980's.
Let me know when you wake up from your dream world. None of the latest technology was developed in your universal system, but here under our system. Without our system, your system fails. People die under socialized medicine just like our system. They have to go on waiting lists, unless of course they are rich and come to the US or go to a private clinic.
Those countries with successful nationalized health care are probably also countries with intelligent and trustworthy people running the governments. The latter is a situation we don't have in the USA, and so consequently, the former would never succeed here.
American Government got BILLIONs or Could be trillions for WAR but unfortunately no money for health Care system...ahahahahahaha...funny how democracy works in that shitty country....
In case you hadn't noticed, the United States is a Repbulic, not a democracy. Further, there is nothing in the Constitution of the United States that gives the government the authority to provide health care. There is an authority to raise a military and wage war.
Just because it's not in the Constitution doesn't mean the government, or people, can't do something. It doesn't say women have the right to have abortions either does it? Libertarianism, which it seems like you subscribe too, is a valid political theory but don't bring up the weak old argument of "it's not in the Constitution so we can't do it."
soooo.... what do you propose? That we have some sort of SOCIALIZED medicine like they do in Europe with their...their....6 weeks guaranteed vacation and....er....higher standard of living and valuable currency?
My father payed less money for his high blood pressure meds before he got insurance.. in what world does that make sense?

Such sheeple you lemmings are.
mauimahina 2 years ago
i duno if 85 percent are really happy with not being able to truly depend on coverage from a company but if 15 of people are rushed into hospitals and are treated for something, that is billlions of money out of taxpayers wallets to pay for that treatment. and then if you try to charge them, they go bankrupt and cant pay for it anyways. 15% of people would go bankrupt, awesome system, good job democracy, looking out for the little guy
alevex 2 years ago
@mauimahina I've just been diagnosed with Parkinson's and I'm already getting letters from the insurance company saying I haven't paid for my coverage, when my insurance is paid through my job. Every time I get a letter (3 so far) I have to go to HR and get proof that they paid and send it to them. How is that for satisfied customer. Don't be selfish, there are plenty of people who get screwed on a daily basis by insurance companies.

I worked for WellPoint, Blue Cross, and Kaiser.
They're not your friend.

Amen brothers & sisters! They're definately not on your side!
MPIPP1 2 years ago 2
That is a shame... Health care ought to be a right in the United States, it is in Canada anyways (in our constitution). Denials, and high risk status does not determine the eligibility of a Canadian (citizen) to receive treatment. Ultimately, I strongly agree with you.
kdubLLM 2 years ago
Europe loves Europeans more than America loves Americans. Your governments let you live and not die from curable illnesses. Maybe our government will do what we elected them to do: give every single American the ability to receive timely healthcare. We know that you have this in Europe. We want to live, too.
aldenbuzz 2 years ago
I live in europe, and I always was looking up to America thinking what a wonderful country this must be where everything was great. But afther watching all the news over here about the American healthcare, I am starting to of think Amerika is a third world country, where people are dying of curable illness becourse they dont get good medical treatment
ancabamo 2 years ago 4
We have the greatest healthcare... ask any Canadian who comes here for treatment... our system isn't perfect but at least 85% of our people are happy with their coverage... the other 15% most of whom are illegal aliens are the ones who a plan should be devised for.... don't take away my good healthcare to fix the 15% asswipe!

mauimahina So your telling me you have got the greatest healthcare? The American healthcare is still the healthcare of a thirthworld country, witch is a BIG shame!
I want to control my own!
akijujutsu 2 years ago
A....people in the Netherlands live longer than we here in the States do....that's probably why they don't provide critical health care. Go ahead and control your health care! Nobody's gonna force you to do anything. Don't do anything...Isn't that a republican mindset?
ngern 2 years ago
Quality of health care is not solely based on life expectancy! In Norway there is an average three year wiat before hip replacement is provided. In Canada half of all hospitals sent expectant mothers home for at least one full day because they where FULL.
All of htese proport an average life expectancy a hlf to full year longer but this may be due to other reasons like race.
There are simply some disease''s that certain sectors of our society seem to get.
akijujutsu 2 years ago
And where did you get that information, some replublican advertisement claiming that socialized medicine is not as good as ours? Wake up amigo! You're being lied to! How do I know? I have a brother living in Canada, and a brother and sister living in Australia. Both countries have a Nationalized healthcare system. You should talk to people who actually enjoy that kind of system instead of listening to politically-motivated information that's keeping us Americans misinformed.
ngern 2 years ago
You are being fed specious facts. How do you know what the hip replacement wait time is in Norway? What is in in the US? In the US we had to specifically pass a law to prevent insurance companies from kicking out mothers after one day. I still remember the debate. The repubs were against interfering with insurance companies rights to kick out new moms the same day.
michalchik 2 years ago
Information came from family in Norway. His father was put on list after surgery was recomended. That was average wait. My wife just back from Norway. Regarding canada was gotten during an interviewwith a member of the canadian government. In this he defended the 2 month wait for MRI saying "Emergencies get moved ahead line" People dont know injuries (diagnosed properly) can be repaired however if there is a wait before surgery say, more than 4 weeks then repair may not be done.
akijujutsu 2 years ago
So your information is hear-say and anecdotal, not actually statistical and verfiable. You really that that is not valid in law, science, policy or even a high-school report. Basically you are saying that somebody told you this therefore it must be trust.
I can tell you stories too. I have freinds that are canadioan and bristih that absolutely love those systems. In fact everyone I know who is british and canadian loves those systems. I know americans who wait months for surgery and hate it.
michalchik 2 years ago
Did my hearsay anecdotal evidence convince you? It shouldn't because it is as worthless as yours. If your boss asks you for a report on trends in the economy and you tell him that your freind is doing well in real-estate and thinks everyone is, you'll get fired for incompetence. If you assert "facts" be prepared to back them up with something more than rumors. Also you never had a baseline comparison. What is the wait time in the US for hip replacement?
michalchik 2 years ago
Michalchik...Well the inforamtion I said was from MY FAMILY! And also from the Government of Canada! So you are WRONG WRONG WRONG! I have twenty years in working on Finanacing health care and am VERY succsesfull at it!! Corperations, Healthcare providers as well as Health insurance companies have underwritten many millions in risk based on my work. Maybe, just maybe, you should be a little more humble in your approach!! My experience though is that you probably wont be.
akijujutsu 2 years ago
You want a base line on the waiting period for a hip surgery in the US? If you have a diagnosis and have established medical nescesity (doc recomends it) You can have a pre-op physical generaly within a week and the surgery one -three wks after. Maybe month total. At least in Fl., IL, Mi. and Wi. I could provide evidence of just that time line being done! The only time people generaly wait is if they CAN and SHOULD try physical therepy first. OR
akijujutsu 2 years ago
If soneone has other health conditions that they must get over first.. Like some infection or something. Frequently there is other illness or conditions affecting the patient. There are a few well known facilities and Doctors that have people lining up to have them do the surgery. This is because of their personal reputation. SO people may WANT to wait for those surgeons. But that is their CHOICE!!!
akijujutsu 2 years ago
Hey Michalchic Obama Sited two individuals in his speech last night! One woman that died of breast cancer and one man that man that had gall stones. If you are correct about valdity of personal experiences then maybe you should fire him!!
akijujutsu 2 years ago
I was entirely unimpressed by his inclusion of anecdotes in his speech. but because there are lots of stupid people that are impressed by such things it was politically expedient if manipulative. One that sadly has been repeatedly used by every president since Reagan because it is such a good propaganda techniques.
michalchik 2 years ago
I am not interested in what you imagine the time-line might be.You can tell me as many stories as you like and I can make up stories about any other medical system and clain I have insight. I can imagine that insurance companies delay proceedures for years in the hope that patients will die or give up. You need to deliver some facts that can be independently verified. Haven't you ever written a report for school? Do you know what a citation is? Is backing up your assertions too hard for you?
michalchik 2 years ago
Apparently you don't know what hearsay and anecdotal evidence is. Look it up I don't have time or space to educate you.
Thanks for inadvertently admitting that you have a conflict of interest. In an effort to establish your Bona Fides you have admitted you are one of the parasites sucking American health-care dry, driving up costs for your own enrichment and perfectly happy to let people go without as long as your bottom line is fine. Anything you say now is suspect.
michalchik 2 years ago 2
I was not inadvertant in my statement of experience. You sound as one that is focussed on having me provide for you!! You are now only engaged in trying to impeach my statements. why dont you offer any facts rather than stories?? Just call your local hospital and ask how far they have thier surgical center schedule filled. You will probably find I am correct. You seem like a brat that cannot do this though!

Leaving999,chew on this: In 2007,1% of the population of this country "earned" 33% of the income. Taking into account that social security withholding stops after $108,600,that means that the concentration of income among a small number of individuals results in less money for social security, hence the fear of of SSI running out of money. You can be a part of society as someone who believes in working together when appropriate or you can go for all you can for yourself.Sociopath vrs. socialist.

If you let that type of thinking prevail on the part of a minority in this country, you certainly do not deserve a humane society. Let the Globalization sham continue to offshore your jobs. Then why do we have the most expensive healthcare in the world and yet we rank 39th......and yes most people enter the healthcare world as doctors because yes they do like the field, but the money you can make is also an attractive factor.....never met a middle class doctor......
migo53333 2 years ago

Why should you think about anyone but yourself and to try and get as much as you can for your self?
robost 2 years ago 2
I think there have to be better ways to do it than unfairly taxing a minority. Offering larger tax breaks for more substantial charitable giving is a good way to do it, for example. The problem is in putting a system in place which punishes people who work hard or have ambition and a drive to succeed. I don't oppose taxing the rich, but taxing them more and punishing them for being successful through their own merit sounds unfair to me and I am lower middle class.
Cajaquarius 2 years ago

There is no right or wrong answer, after all its about what you think not what is moral or just.
ori020219852 2 years ago
I don't think socializing healthcare will solve anything. All it will end up doing is killing old people and people the goverment deems not worth the money. Every doctor I talk to has hated the idea. The system needs reform, specifically the disaster that is Medicaid, which drives up the price of everything from what I have read of it. Why would you trust something as evil, greedy, and inefficient as the federal goverment with your life? You think you will fare better with them? Really?

How does you reasoning put the blame on the Doctors? There is a severe shortage of Doctors - and will be for years to come. Reduce the Drs. pay - they move on to something else (remember - Drs are smart people) then you have no healthcare!
ranet1234 2 years ago
Ranet, look deeper into this problem and the biggest culprit is the big pharmas.....and i'll say it again, we r raised to believe that doctors should be wealthy, lawyers also, why??? because both occupations r necerssary.....there is no reason why anyone should have to lose their house because they needed surgery.....its a big sham!!!!! but your thinking is not on the same page as mine......
migo53333 2 years ago
Because doctors and lawyers go to school for much longer than anyone else. Why should anyone go to school for eight to twelve years and rack up huge debt in student bills when they don't get paid more? They earn that money. Nothing except lazyness or lack of ambition is stopping you or anyone else from going to school and becoming a doctor or lawyer.
If you work hard at something you should be rewarded more than the lazy people who didn't. What is the problem with this paradigm?
Cajaquarius 2 years ago
You know, not all doctors and lawyers make exorbitant amounts of money, and the average pay for each of the professions is below Mr. Obamas "250,000 a year limit". And the average for lawyers isn't even in six figures(i'm not sure about doctors). We don't need to Spend a trillion dollars to remedy the situation, that'll only make things worse, and most doctors are in their professions because they love the medical field, not because they want to make money.
Leaving999 2 years ago
doctors in france average 65000 ayear, the same goes for france...
migo53333 2 years ago
The doctors have to charge as much as they do because of all the litigation they need to avoid. This idea that doctors are meeting in secret to screw people out of their money is absurd. There needs to be change but the goverment is the problem here, not the doctors. Goverment is the reason things are so broken and we are gonna give them total control now and expect things to be different.
Emotions are toxic to rational thinking. Don't let all this Good vs Evil propoganda sway your feelings.

So really, when we view Insurance within another context, like roads (if they were privatized), or the postal system (which is socialized), or private/public school systems (mixed) we can better understand the debate of health care and remove some of the rheotoric and fear.

I don't understand the logic of "insurance companies aren't held accountable for their initial agreements" therefore, we should have government run insurance. Reform the laws to hold the companies accountable - don't just give it away to government. You want accountability? Go to the DMV or go through the court system to see how accountable the government is.
Logan5nx 3 years ago
Actually, Obama's plan gives you a choice. You can choose a public health insurance plan like Medicare, or you can choose a private insurer's plan. And they ALL have to play by the SAME rulesnot cherrypick who they'll cover or exclude by pre-existing conditions or changing your coverage out of the blue. If the private insurers truly are competitive & interested in providing health coveragerather than reaping windfall profitsthey shouldn't have any problem. Right?
ADollarSaved 2 years ago 3
It is similiar to choosing public or private schools for your kids. Personally, I think by putting kids in private schools, you take money out of the public system which could make better schools for all, including the world in which your own kids will have to play and work in. However, this is America and money talks. At least those who put their kids in private schools still have to pay taxes which go towards schools for all.
PaisleyBisiani 2 years ago

Think people.

Gloriapower 3 years ago
Are people in your area required to use health insurance companies? I live in Ohio and it's my choice to buy into a health plan. I have one from my employer that covers most things, I pay for the rest. It costs me a couple hundred buck a pay period. I'm not forced into the plan and I know it's a for profit entity like any other corporation...so what's the big deal?
billdoss2 3 years ago
The problem is with long term disabilities. Insurance companies hate paying these and will do whatever it takes to not pay, i.e. deny the claim outright, call it a pre-existing condition, cancel it on a technicality, force you to get evaluated by their own bought-and-paid for doctor. Whatever. It is contract fraud and all insurance companies have whole departments to work toward upwards of 45% claim denial. Most claimants give up eventually. It is fraud.

I know. Insurance companies focus on people that try to defraud them. It happens. But insurance companies label them and then sub-consciously apply the label to many claimants and especially long term disability claimants. Insurance co's look at long term disability as fraud in 45% of the cases. They work to deny 45% of claims. It starts with that attitude and allows them to guiltlessly defraud many of their clients.

puu1111 3 years ago 2
The problem is the third party. Whether it is an insurance company or the government, he who pays controls the transaction.
Right now, the insurance company controls a lot of transactions, but not under threat of criminal sanctions. If the government controls health care transactions, your care and choice will suck, and it can put you in jail.
Don't get why people support a government which screws up pretty much anything it touches in charge of health care.

I think you're mistaken. The only docs with those are doctors who do not take insurance and only take cash.

It's true though, why play fair when the American people already bend over for you? While in the UK, I used 'socialized medicine' several times. It works very well.
I never had to wait. I got excellent care.
I've used inhalers for years here at home, and the one I got in the UK treated my asthma better than anything I've had here.
We're being lied to every day about the true nature of universal health care.
4951 - your drug research argument doesn't hold water. We've already seen that the profit motive doesn't provide the best care, or the best meds.

Otherwise, I might believe all the B.S. the insurance companies keep pumping out about how awful it is.
dogbongo 3 years ago
that's what I meant... you don't have to live there! when has socialism EVER worked? why do we think this will work? this is not the answer, and the problem isn't even right... the problem is we want it free and it doesn't work that way.
got2liv4him 3 years ago
Got2, When did I say I wanted free medical care?
I'm willing to pay for GOOD medical care. The deal is here in the U.S., we're paying plenty & getting garbage. 30% of what you pay is wasted on middlemen. The rest goes into a CEO's pocket. Doctors aren't making as much as they used to, and hospitals are going bankrupt. Profits & health care do not match.
I have been to the U.K. 7 times. I have used the medical system there five times. Each time I offered to pay, but they declined my offer.
dogbongo 3 years ago
got2, people who "think" like you are preventing us from making any progress in reforming our failing health care system.

Maxam0t0 3 years ago
Canadian's healthcare sucks
got2liv4him 3 years ago
America's Social Security system is projected to be solvent for another 46 years. How is that failing?
Further, we have socialism already in this country:
There's no fire company that won't put out your house fire unless your bill is paid - our fire departments are socialist.
There's no school that won't accept your kid because you haven't paid your bill - our schools are socialist.
The same goes with the roads, bridges, the police, national defense, etc.
Thank god for socialism!
XopherMV 3 years ago
Like any form of gambling, insurance companies need to be regulated. Their bookies (umm...sorry, I guess they call them actuaries) set the odds, the government is supposed to regulate the house cut...supposed to. Kinda hard when the house is called upon to adjudicate the very thing gambled upon. "Oh, sorry, your boat hasn't sunk, it's just sitting lower in the water." Yeah, lower in the water...by 100 fathoms.
bryan314 3 years ago
socialism isn't banned by the constitution.
Deregulation means more control of our lives by wealthy corporations. Mass accumulation of wealth is enforced by the state through the police and military. democratically voted upon regulation is good for not only the masses of people, but good for business.
