Dailor makes this bad who they are, in my opinion, and in that of many many others, Dailor is the best drummer of all-time, Portnoy is the only other drummer in the same league as Dailor. If Mastadon did not have Dailor, they would not have made it this far. I like the music, but not love... I am stunningly amazed at the talent this man has on the sticks, un-fuk-n believable!! Love the all around effort of Oblivion tho. Great song.
@Baalzz302 check out a drummer called Morgan Agren and you will rethink that statement. Particularly a medley done with the Fredrik guy from Meshuggah. Also Gary Novak. Not the same style at all, but he rips up the jazz/fusion like a beast.

Since Brann's band formed in '99 and were making a record and touring in 2004 and Blake was still in school, I think it might be the other way around. It's kinda obvious, just my opinion though. My friend tried to me the same thing, I didn't buy it. I've been a Mastodon fan since the very begining so I might be kinda partial.

Had a visual cortex overload when I saw TOOL; it was great ... and was thoroughly entertained by Tinariwen.

Agree to disagree. Considering how every member pretty much has some vocal role, one song can be vastly different from another. I think Troy honestly kicks ass, but he's also said in interviews (jokingly or not) he doesn't really like growling, but that's what the music demanded of him. I still think (like the rest of their albums) that Leviathan was a massive opus, and given the concept, this is an appropriate performance. I honestly couldn't see this muddied sound with clean vox.

Huh... in MY opinion, I don't like the singer much! I don't know why I don't... I find his voice is just a little weird sounding to me :P. But the band itself is amazing. The guitar in "Colony Of Birchmen" in the beginning is MIND BLOWING. Highly recommend people who haven't heard that song to listen to it :).
Anyone agree about my thoughts on the singer? o: He's great don't get me wrong, just doesn't suit MY taste ^.^

Agree to disagree. Considering how every member pretty much has some vocal role, one song can be vastly different from another. I think Troy honestly kicks ass, but he's also said in interviews (jokingly or not) he doesn't really like growling, but that's what the music demanded of him. I still think (like the rest of their albums) that Leviathan was a massive opus, and given the concept, this is an appropriate performance. I honestly couldn't see this muddied sound with clean vox.

I'm not one for labeling bands, since in some cases, you really can't classify a band under one genre, like Mastodon, but if I were to label them, I'd put them under Sludge/Progressive Metal.
