So awesome. Variations of all those instruments are used throughout Asia in folk and traditional music, including in South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan) and Central Asia and Iran. Love seeing the pan-Asian similarities. I'm South Asian.
These guys are awesome, we had a throat-singing group visit my high school years back and I bought some of Huun Huur Tu's music right after that. The group had a woman in it, and the tone was the exact same as the men.
this is so rad! at first, i thought he said the name was "ONE or TWO", and then when the vocals started i had a flashback from the burping contest in the movie "Revenge Of The Nerds", and then i started getting dizzy.
as a musician, and a fan of metaphysics, as well as art, i give this video THUMBS UP!
am i the only one whose teeth went numb listening to the vocals?
i saw them twice, the first time i was we had some mushrooms. it was truely spiritial, somthing i will never forget. the second time, a couple of years later we saw them totally sober and it was a different experience, but fantastic. definitly worth seeing !
Please check our youtube clip "Huun Huur Tu in Children of the Otter by Vladimir Martynov". It's a promo clip of 77-minute composition for Huun Huur Tu, chamber orchestra, and choir. We just premiered with it last September in Russia
The difference is that this music has a spiritual resonance with people who are sober whereas gazing into the folds of their pants will not. I have had my days of drugs and alcohol and can honestly say this idea of expanding consciousness and delving into the secrets of the universe via the consumption of drugs is 20th century hokum, coming mostly from people living profoundly aspiritual, pretentious lives, posing as depth and profundity. Sprituality is more than perception and its manipulation
Humans have, since the dawn of time, sought ways to alter their perspective on the world around them. be it through dance, songs, drugs, or even self denial (sleep, food, sex, etc.)
it's only natural, to get stoned and listen to music on youtube. as unnatural as that may sound.
it's not about "Enjoying life." it's about understanding life, and searching for the answer to the question that drives us all, and yet shall never be answered.
Ongawesgone; I suggest you eat a pound of mushrooms.
I judged no one. It was merely a suggestion to "try" enjoying music/life, without having to get stoned. And since I can honestly say that I've never, in 43 years, been either drunk or stoned, I have a right to my opinion.
I am only referring to you not getting drunk or stoned ever. Your opinion is a little limited in those areas.
btw I love this music and singing sober as I am now but I bet it would amaze me further if I was high. Please don't take offense I am only adding my opinion.
Sorry, but this is not ancestor. Ancestor is very diferent from this piece. The first vocal song is "Prayer", yes, but the second one looks like (I´m not really shure) "Eki Attar", but a slower version than the studio one.
@tantsev you guys rock and I respect all your decisions. I especially love Children of the Otter but I must respectfully say that new age stuff doesn't hold the respect it once did in the 80s in Western society and many people simply write it off. I'd love to see you guys collaborate with some avant garde electronica, or some experimental rock or something though, keep going on with the fusion! just be careful who you give your sound to you guys have lightning in a bottle!
@tantsev Ohh nooo no no no noo. Children of the Otter is an example of the right kind of decisions. If I had to classify I'd say classical orchestral fusion. Maybe I didn't word myself properly. Anyone who reads this check out Children of the Otter cause it rocks!

The first one I think is simply a demonstration of the different throat singing styles. The second song I know as "Oske Cherde". I think its from their album 60 Horses in My Herd.
Mongol comes from Temuchin's tribe's name Mon Kau, a Turkic people. If you meet a French person in lets say China and the French guy greets us and says hello fellow European, then you say to him No I'm English, isn't that awkward? OK enough of retardedness lets enjoy the music.

Your point is well taken. However, to use your analogy, while I might have a lot in common with a French person in China, as an American, I wouldn't have much in common with them in France, or Europe for that matter.
I feel you are over simplifying the idea of "culture" and are arguing a different scale of relatedness than most would.
This is a really good YouTube video of throat singing, and I am adding it to the favorites on my channel.
I am selecting and compiling a collection of very good throat singing videos on my channel's Favorites, so anyone interested in seeing throat singing videos but not wanting to sort through the good and bad, please visit my Channel Favorites and feel free to subscribe to them to get updates when I add more.
Hello Throatsinger, I am also mesmerised by this style of singing, and am absolutely amazed in discovering (just today!!!) that a very very similar thing exists in my country, Italy: look for sardinian "canto a tenores".
I can mention the groups Tenores di Bitti or Tenores de Orosei.
You may tell me if the technique is really the same (to my ear it is). Cheers
ChiudiLaPorta, thanks for sharing that information. I will search for those groups and find out more about this singing in Italy. It is a deep personal fascination of mine to find unique singing styles from around the world which are not widely known.
I think you might have a look at this video first: Tenores di Bitti a Belluno 2
In this clip the singers explain their technique. To my ear the second and third singers actually do throat singing. Tenores de Orosei are perhaps even better than the Tenores di Bitti, because they reach very low tones, just like the HHT.
Let these people make up their own minds on their identity.
You should concentrate on your country.
Also Tannu Tuva used to be part of Mongolia called Uriankha pronvince or aimag as we call it.
Thousands of Tuva's have married with Mongols and they migrated into Mongolia every year as there is no border problems. Let them live their own lifes man
I have seen them a couple of years ago in a very small concert in germany and it was simply mindblowing. Seriously if you ever get the chance to see them live, don´t miss it. It´s so inspiring and full of some hard to describe ancient power. Lots of respect....
Groups like the Tuvans and Yakuts do also speak Turkic languages, but culturally they are far from modern Turks; they were more influenced by Mongolian and other cultures. But even in modern Turkey, there are groups that preserve many elements of their pre-Islamic culture. Tuvans, Kazakhs, Uzbeks etc. mostly don't call themselves "Turks" and don't like being called that, but certainly recognize their common roots. Still no average Turk could understand Tuvan without lots of study.
Just to add a bit of clarity...? There is a difference between "Turkish" and "Turkic" and the question is as much political as ancestral. The people mostly known as Turks today came in several migrations from Central Asia but there was also a lot of Turkification, which is the reason most Turkish-speaking people don't look Asian. Some do. The Soviets certainly did divide people like Uzbeks, Uighurs, Karakalpaks etc. who were united by a single written language, Chagatay.
This is almost too good to be believed! And a great introduction to the music of Southeastern Russia (and Mongolia?). The diversity of music in the world stuns me; thanks for posting.
The song beginning at about 2:30 is called Öske Cherde, and can be found on their album 60 Horses in My Herd.

Hello :-)
I think you might have a look at this video first: Tenores di Bitti a Belluno 2
In this clip the singers explain their technique. To my ear the second and third singers actually do throat singing. Tenores de Orosei are perhaps even better than the Tenores di Bitti, because they reach very low tones, just like the HHT.
I am very curious to have your opinion!

You Turkis from Tueky are dissultioned,
Let these people make up their own minds on their identity.

Rather than offering to rip them off with your illegal downloads why not encourage people to buy their CD. If you like their music buy it!
