  • This is the coolest tank I've seen so far. We're jealous.

  • Nice

  • how do you handle your algey problem. i cant put stuff like fake plants in mine because if algey grows on it it is to much of a pain to clean every week. please any advice would help.

  • good video

  • can you make a tutorial on how to make that filter?

  • what sort of fish do you have in there

  • Any one want some great red ears that breed I'm moving and can't take them the only pet store that will take them is scummy and I don't want to do that to them I'm trying to find them a good home lost my job and need a angle to take them I have 4 nice adults 1 teenager if your in the Cleveland area I will even give you a terrarium

  • @HookinBassOH28 I'm in Cincinnati....How large are the adults and setup?

  • Great tank. Your turtles are lucky to have you as a keeper. :)

  • I really like this, I have nothing on the bottom of my tank, is yours hard to clean inbetween the rocks? Are your plants real or fake, mine try to eat anything I put in the tank, really, anything! They are pigs with shells. How often and how much do you feed yours and how often? Mine are female and 8" from head to tail.

  • are they aggressive towards eachother in any way?

  • looks great, check mine out let me know what you think :)

  • looks nice

  • I wish I could hide things with plants! My 10 inch res just eats them! Even plastic plants! Sometimes I wonder what's going on in his little turtle brain.

  • That is a nice setup I wish I can get that big of a tank for my res turtle

  • did you get that from glass cages?

  • Beautiful setup. You are right about the water level in relation to size cuz even though ur tank looks beautiful it's not really ideal in regards to proper swimming room..I currently have a 55 gallon long i bought off craigslist for practically nothing with a wood stand and I'm in the process of building an above tank basking area, filling up the tank a little more than 3/4's of the way for maximum swimming room.

  • @gearbox3838 nope, pretty much i just wave my hand across bottom of tank once a week to kick up junk and filter sweeps it away.

  • @cman3600 yeah that was my earlier tank. You shoudl check out my latest tank, i dont use fake stuff anymore.

  • how much does that cost?

  • @tony3611liao see latest setup, under $500 USD.

  • how much dose that cost?

  • Wow, this turtle tank is absolutely gorgeous. I'm in the process of transferring my two RES from their R-Zilla starter kit to a 120 gallon 48x24x24 tank w/a 3D background from Aquaterra. Your setup has brought me a lot of inspiration. I have a hard time acquiring a stable basking platform for two young adult RES's, do you have any suggestions?

  • @grifloki nice i also have a red ear slider he is 19 and a yellow belly she is 12 how old are yours they look 3 to 4 yr

  • Nice

  • i hav three res one is big one is medium and one is small whats funny is that every time the smallest one gets scared it goes under the big one which is so cut :)

  • I have the same size tank (check out my vids) and i want to stack rocks like this for a basking area..will this not put pressure on the glass and create a leak?

  • @britandrob Yes it would but if you put florestent lighting grate on bottom it will spread the weight out and not allow any direct contact with glass on bottom.

  • @grifloki K thanks i'm going to try that.. They have shot up in size since I bought this tank and no store bought or diy dock is holding them so I have to go to rocks..Can you buy grate at Lowes in the lighting section? thanks!

  • @britandrob yes, its white and is a grid, literally grate of little white squares. You can cut with tin snips to get exact width and lengh you want. Place over entire bottom of tank and then place your rocks. Once in you can fill in rest of area with river bed rocks.

  • omfg i would kill for that tank!!!!!

  • That thiiiiiiiing isssss baaaadddd!

  • thanxs i might get on later for my three turtles. thanxs again. are u planning on getting more turtles?

  • where did u get a tank set up like that with the cabinet?

  • where did u get a tank set up like that with the cabinet?

  • @beaner1196 I got from craigs list the tank and stand, i redesigned the base and added supports for extra weight and i built the canopy from scratch out of 3/4 inch plywood and added electronics etc.

  • I have to say that in contrast to the uneducated masses of youtube I find your setup exceptional (and that is fact not opinion). I currently have a ~5" RES that I am temporarily moving into a 55 until I can get a bigger tank in the 150 range for permanent housing. Side note, do your turtles pick at the plastic plants? Mine destroys EVERYTHING

  • @BlackandChrome yeah, they pulled them all up so i built new setup with refugium and plants are in there now. I harvest weekly and throw in main tank for them to eat. see the new video if interested.

  • Can you make turtle decorations with that foam stuff?(can't remember what its called) If you make sure its water proof

  • I NEED SOME ROCKS LICK THAT

  • You should replace that plexiglas under the daytime lights. The plexiglas filters out all the important light rays for you turtles rendering that light practically useless

  • @Tittzy Why is it no one really watches the videos, they just pretent to. If you rewatch it you will notice the plexi was never over the lights that matter for the turtles, it was ONLY over the full spectrum lights. I am no idiot when it comes to turtles and that would be pretty dumb thing to do. Also, if you watch all the videos i posted per this tank you will notice the tank was overhauled again and plexi was removed so i can grow plants. Please take care before posting comments in future.

  • would an adult bamboo shark fit in the tank b its self

  • its soo pretttttyyy :O lol

  • Wow, that is an amazing setup!

  • is beauttiful!

  • great tankset up!! wonder how big they r now!!! :)

  • Beautiful job on the setup. I have a soft shell in a 60 gallon which originally had two magnum 350s, but one died on me so I've got on working filter with an extension intake and the tank is 9/10 full with a floating island. I used to do rocks, and found they are too heavy and cumbersome. They look great, but for me it was too much work and weight. I'd like to figure out a way to keep my hard water lines away. Any suggestions?

  • actully res turtles are better than red eard slider and they don't carry diseas and sorry if diseas is not ritten right

  • What a pulchritudinous tank! I can almost say it's the best one I've ever seen. Pet stores could learn a thing or two from you.

  • why did you name your turtles sarah and cindarella???????????

  • @reptilelover9 my kids did. :)

  • @grifloki How much did this cost plz reply

  • Do you know roughly how much slate i would need for a setup like this? I found a place with small and large mixed pieces and i have to buy by the lb.

I have to say i have looked at at least 100 setups and this is by far my favorite. Planning on doing a setup much like this when i upgrade from my 75gal to my 125gal in 2 weeks. ill do a before and after video n see how close i can get to this kind of look.

  • @rkphatteam i would guess around 200 - 300 lbs. Just make sure you put lighting grate down to even out the weight of the rock, see my latest video as i changed it around a bit. This ensures all the weight is not on one spot this cracking your tank.

  • @grifloki with a 150gallong tank, do i need to setup a sump setup? Would 2 Magnum 350s be ok on this size tank? also not sure if u know but could i add 1-2 small baby turtles with my 2 (4-5" each)? they are Red Ear Sliders

  • @rkphatteam 150 gallon tank will support two 8 inch turtles or one 15 inch turtle if tank is full. If you keep 3/4 full then i would say one turtle to full size is max you can go with. its 10 gallons of water for every inch of turtle so you can quickly figure it out. My tank needs to go to a 300 gallon tank in next 3 - 5 years to support their adult life. If turtles have right setup they can live in captivity for 30+ years so getting it right is key.

  • What a set-up! I work at a Petco, started there about 8 months ago and I've been doing my own research. It's sad that almost everything they teach us about the animals we sell there is ABSOLUTELY WRONG! Now when customers come in, I am going to refer them to your videos. I'm sure most of it will go over their heads not to mention they won't want to spend the $ to do it right. Hell, when they ask me 1,000 ?s I tell them to buy a book, they're about $10 and they bitch about that.

  • @daveassanowicz if you liked this video checkout my latest, i added a refugium and changed the setup around a bit. Thanks for looking

  • Cool bout to set a tank up will a store bought filter be sufficant

  • @larful123 to start sure, but as they get older you have more water and need a better filter.

  • this tank is awesome

  • You put my Tank To shame....

  • I just got my turtles today! This tank looks amazing and your turtles are so lucky. I know the species of my turtles but do you know how to tell the gender?

  • itss funny how people could criticize this set-up. its one of the best ive seen. i mean jeez what do people expect..that you have a lake in your garden for them lol. i think its a great setup and has everything a res needs. nice work.

  • You, are soo lucky! I have two red eared sliders and they are still very small. I dont even think they are allowed to be sold that small, but I am taking very good care of them! I wish I could afford a tnk like that.. it's beautiful! Must have taken ALOT of time!

  • This is sooo awesome! Are you an Engineer? My sone has a Red Eared slider and she is growing fast. This is a perfect environment for her..I'm gonna get my husband to try to pull it off! :o) Thanks for this!

  • Dude that is an AWESOME setup. I just rescued a couple myself, I plan on getting them a better setup as time goes on. your video was a big help!

  • You have one of the coolest, well thought-out custom tank setups Ive ever seen. Great job man

  • my turtle suffered from an accident and only has one webbed hand while his other linbs are stumps, im afraid if i buy a lrge tank it will struggle to swim and possibly drown, as ridiculous as it sounds, i just dont want that risk

  • how do you keep your water so clean.

  • hey i subscirbed bro awesome tank best tank on youtube ive ever seen! i have 2 pink belly sideneck turtles check out my video and subscribe! also what would you recommend for my 55 gal tank. a rena xp4 witch is 450gph or a fluval 405 witch is 340 gph. like overall witch do u think would be worth it.?

  • nice I LOVE IT...They look so Happy!

I cant wait to get my Turtle :-)

    Thx for Sharing...

  • Hey, I just posted a video of my slider that I just got and I would like some help on what I can do to make his terrarium better. Would you (or any owners reading this) check out the video and give me feedback on how I can make his set up better?? I'm desperate!

  • Fantastic! I just love it. Do you have a write up on this so that we can see it in more detail. Defintely going to copy if you don't mind!

  • Such a nice tank with beatiful turtles. Also you have nice clear water quality. Nice!

  • I'm jealous. If I was strong and smart enough to find where you live and steal your 125 gal. setup, I would. Haha, Just kidding, Great job.

  • WOW. That is an absolutely amazing setup and those turtles are lucky to have such a smart, talented, and devoted owner such as yourself! Just ignore these rude people correcting you and saying rude things...they obviously have too much time on their hands....and are jealous of you. You seem to know JUST what you are going, man. Great job.

  • @yakuzagang5 thank you im getting a cat fish instead thats 5 inches

  • ATTENTION TURTLE OWNERS, I NEED HELP! what kind of algae eater do i need that my 2 year old red eared slider wont eat. i also want to get a decent size cat fish, golden dojo, and a small school of comet gold fish or other medium sized schooling fish. Plz help. What fish should i get? Are these fish i listed ok to put in with my turtle and if so wat size take wuld i need, thx. btw great vid

  • @CrushTurtles I wouldn't throw too many fish in there unless you have a huge tank. But with an algae eater, I would make sure hes not too much smaller lengthwise than the turtle, otherwise he might get attacked. I have one and hes about 5 inches long, doesn't get bothered by my turtles :)

  • A tank for a red eared slider must be open on the top because the circulation of the air in the room. I hope you have now a new tank, because red eared sliders need a very big tank and a lot of water and a big dock too!

  • @ButterflysPoison I have gotten enough comments to date that I just have to be rude on this one. You clearly didnt think this comment out well and are uneducated when it comes to turtles. With that said you will notice if you watch the video again that it has fans going 24/7 to recirculate the air, there is no need for an ugly open air setup. And duh turtles need lots of water. 1"of turtle=10 gal water and I have. Dock I have is perfect size for their size now, in time will grow as will tank gal

  • What filteration brand? I have a Red Eared Slider, I want to build something like this for her.

  • @PrettyMuchRonnie its all home made. I get my filter media off line and its the same blue air filter media that you would use in your homes furnace for filtration. I use 3 layers and change ever 3 - 5 weeks.

  • @grifloki GREAT JOB ON THE TANK! SPACIOUS

  • why do you have goldfish and minnows in there? Aren't you afraid the turtles will eat them? Do you not worry about thiaminase?

Nice setup btw. how often do you do water changes on that? How much as well? Turtles are pretty messy :)

  • @rpgfan182 I no longer have goldfish in the tank, i learned a lot since the day i got it up and running and goldfish can cause health issues for the turtles as you pointed out. I also raise my own guppies and mollies now so they are healthy and cheap. Per minnows and guppies and mollies yeah they could get eaten and used to when the turtles were younger. THey now eat more veggies but still love crickets and shrimp and when they can catch a fish that too.

  • @rpgfan182 per water changes i actually never really change it. Usually if I do its in the spring and i take the tank down about 25% less and fill her back up. Check out my latest videos, i now have a refugium setup with lots of plants etc. I balance the tank every other month and its always perfect, i never have to do anything.

  • @grifloki

Excellent to hear about the goldfish. The only reason I ask is I did not know about it awhile ago, so i bug people about it to make sure they know about it. Pet Stores don't seem to state that goldfish can harm your turtle, you should not buy them. Grow livebearers or convicts for them instead haha.

As for the water change thing, how do you supplement the trace minerals found in water that your turtle will lack from food like potassium for example. Nitrates are easy to get rid of :)

  • @rpgfan182 Welper water changes to rid the water of chlorine and other junk i have a few 5 gallon buckets always full with lids that have holes sitting near sump. I dump one 5 gallon bucket into the sump a week and fill it back up then rotate the buckets so next in line is used at end of week. It takes a month to get back to the first bucket. Per potassium i feed my turtles carrots every few days. They LOVE them as well as lots of other veggies.

  • @rpgfan182 I also feed them the water sprite and anacharis that grows in refugium. I try to vary their diet by feeding things like: crickets, aquatic snails, blood worms, shrimp, mealworms. dandelion greens, romaine lettuce, ebay items i order (water hyacinth, water lettuce, duckweed, frog-bit), squash and green beans. All these things give them a fairly balanced diet as well as I feed them pellets twice a week and i throw a cuttle bone in there once a month.

  • I'm geting a tank like that for my red-eared slider.

  • do u use a special filter for ur turtle or can it be a regular filter

  • good job on the extended canopy. lots of people I see dont put adequate lighting for their turtles. great setup and nice solution for the massive turtle poops.

  • Thats a very nice tank dude, one of the very best i seen

  • very impressive. will have to take lessons from you!

  • how long is that tank? also what plants are best for yellow bellied sliders i have 3 of them but i have no plants for them

  • That is sooo handy awesome! Your turtles look amazing and absolutely happy!

  • I recall reading somewhere on the comments that you used Minwax Polyshades. If you did, how many coats of stain did it take you to achieve your finished color? I built my stand out of oak and I really want to stain it black. I feel like staining it black will take away from the nice wood and the trim. Are you happy with the way your's turned out? Thanks.

  • Hey can u tell me how to do this I have a turtle to I'm trying to find out what I can do ao I don't have. To clean my tank like ever week

  • i need this.

  • Nice tank! makes both of my tanks look bad lol.. how big are your turtles now?

  • This is by far the best setup on youtube! Thumbs up if you are addicted to watching turtle setup vids!

  • where did you get the rocks for the basking area from?

  • best setup i have ever seen.great job.

  • 4 people are jealous

  • how long does it take you to clean it out?

  • @thedragonman1997 i dont have to, it cleans itself. I have good filtration and also alge eaters and bamboo shrimp that eat whats not picked up. Its self sustaining.

  • @grifloki where did you get the bamboo shrimp? and do the turtles eat them?

  • @grifloki Hey what filter brand are u using?

  • Where'd you get the fans?

  • this is amazing! you take great care of your animals... i subbed

  • Hi there! I'm starting to build a turtle aquarium, and your design is very inspiring. :) My question is, how thick is the glass of your aquarium? I'm worried about the rocks being too heavy for mine, which is 120Gallon 3/8" thick glass.

    Thanks!

  • OMG I TOTALY LOVE UR TANK AND UR SET UP. IT IS TOTALY AWSOME =)

  • what I do to keep the tank clean is to feed the turtle outside the tank. I have a feeding container that I use to feed them in. Pretty soon I am hoping to make a pond in my back yard and leave them outside.

  • great set up!

  • how did you cut your 5 gallon bucket? / what did you use to cut it?

do you think 3/4" over flow to 1" pvc to sump with 1/2" return is enough with a 1000GPH pump for a sump?

    thx u

  • Wow, that is BEAUTIFUL! Nice job, dude!! =)

  • Your dog is very interested with the tank set-up!

  • hey u should change ur filtration you know that insulation has little bits of glass in it and all sorts of chemicals its not good for your turtle

  • @bp120596x Actually that's incorrect, its still pink but non glass insulation, they change the formula years ago. I found a cheaper method anyways about a year ago, checkout my latest videos.

  • Nice Set Up Broheem

  • can someone help me out, i recently just got a red eared slider hatchling and its in a 20 gallon long tank (for now) it has a proper basking spot with a uv lighting and its tank temps. are good i always see it basking but it just wont eat ive had it for about a week and it hasent eaten ne of the food i give it. what cud be wrong?

  • what is the dimension for ur tank?

  • about how mutch was the setup

  • @AyahtheActress check out my other vids, all under $500 US for latest setup. Original setup (this one) was around $350..

  • Beautiful tank- best I've seen. I hope your turtles know how lucky they are. Well done.

  • i just got a red ear slider, it is very small. how long do you think have before i need to get a bigger tank for it?

  • Wow! Awesome turtle tank. Mine is so boring compared to yours

  • Looks amazing, and you say you only spent around 400 or so? Thats nuts lol. I have a 50 gallon tank and I've spent over 500 on my turtles and it looks no where near as nice as yours. Btw how do you keep your water so clear? I have a 30 gallon canister filter and a 75 gallon biowheel filter and my water is still foggy, the water is clean but its rather foggy.

  • @taijiangah Check out my latest videos, its actually cleaner now. :) but anyways, it stays soo clean because I am filtering all the water in the tank atleast 8 times and hour if not more. This keeps the tank very clean and my filter very dirty. My latest setup i have a 20 gal refugium with a 30 gal sump and about 95 gal of water in my tank, so about 145 gallons of water constantly being filtered. I have a bag of carbon in sump and the rest if the plants and wet/dry filter doing the work.

  • @taijiangah i vacume the tank with a syth i think its called 1 a week 50 percent water

  • How can I keep my aquarium clean?

  • Wow, you have a great set up! I am just learning. I have a 32 gallon tank and a baby red eared slider. I have a few decorations, a plastic log that he crawls in and a bunch of shells that are fake that click together, a basking rock, a basking light, a filter and a heater.

I also have gravel. I feed him by putting him in a different bucket with a few hiding places.

  • question: your overflow.. is that PVC pipe a syphon system as well? So does it syphon into the over flow box?

  • @MsMollyLolliPop Yes exactly. So water over flows into internal box then syphons into external. If power goes out the internal and external overflow boxes equalize per water level and water pressure inside the syphon pipe and it stops flowing. When power goes back on the water flows into internal overflow which pressure becomes greater than external overflow and thus the flow starts up again.

  • @grifloki thank you for replying! I've been trying to think of an over flow system for my turtle tank but since turtle tanks has lower water level, its hard to find an over flow box accompanying the tank. So I tried to create one like yours. So far, so good. I just need a pump to push the clean water into my tank. Any recommendation on pumps? I bought and its not strong enough to push the water through the tubes. to the other side of the tank :(

  • @MsMollyLolliPop These are some great pumps at great prices, i have been using these for years without issue.

Go to ebay and search on "Catalina Aquarium Pump", the 3000 and 6000 are great pumps.

  • @grifloki aah another question. I bought a pump today and now my filteration is working. I set it up just like urs. the over flow box is made into the tank (like urs) but why is your water lvl in the over flow so low? mine is so high?! almost equal to the top of the over flow.. :( how do I make it go down? bigger tubes for the syphoning?? idk :(

  • @MsMollyLolliPop YOu need to have a dam built into your externl overflow, so only one chamber will be able to fill ut ensure the damn is only half the height of your external overflow box. Also ensure the bottom of external overflow box is the same as internal overflow so pressures on pipes is the same. So the water will overflow the external overflow dam wall and then flow into the hole going to your filter system. This keeps the water in the chamber before the dam high enough to keep the charge

  • @MsMollyLolliPop If you dont do this, when the flow stops in main tank the external overflow box will fully empty out causing the water in pipe to discharge and thus kill your spyhon. Then youll have to recharge it by sucking air out again,so ensure your damn in external overflow box is high enough so that a few inches of water can stay in there when syphon is off and this will also ensure a few inches stays in your internal overflow box preserving the system charge. It will start auto next time

  • @MsMollyLolliPop lastly, just to double check, you want to ensure your external over flow pipe to filter is larger than your syphon pipe and then the syphon pipe should be larger than your return to main tank from sump. THis ensures the syphon always is ahead of return. Mine is 1 1/2 return and 1 3/4 syphon and 2 inch on exsternal overflow to filter. Hope that helps.

  • @MsMollyLolliPop well, what I did was.. from my over flow box to my sump is largest. then I have a smaller tube that takes water from my sump to my tank. then the syphon tube is 2 small tubes. that wasnt working out so I put another. Its lower.. but not as low as yours. I wanted it pretty low.

  • very creative you inspire me

  • Wow, you are a great turtle Daddy. Absolutely breathtaking.

  • I have a problem... I fed my red eared sliders some fresh fish as a treat, but now they won't eat their pellets. Any suggestions as to what I could do to get them eating their pellets again?

  • @Wolfhound1995 Well that is just like me giving you a race car to drive around for a week and then saying ok here is your chevy back, your gonna throw a fit. In the end they will adjust again and start eating when they get hungry. I keep fish in the tank and feed veggies, pelettes, crickets etc so they have variety. In the end they want lots of different things, not just fish and pelettes.

  • damn...makes my turtle habitat looks like stone age.

  • dude u need to build me a tank for my turtles Johny and Shy jeese good job

  • how much it cost to buy glass for tank and just paste them togheter for a 100 gallons tank?

  • nice tank!mine is messed up becuase of my fish so i put my res somewhere else until i can get a new tank

  • doesn't the plexiglass prevent uvb lights from going through?

  • @PhilthyMcNasteeyyy there is no plexi over the UVb lights, it was over the full spectrum lights only, but since this vid (check out new vids) i have change lighting system and dont have plexi as no moisture builds up etc.

  • this is one nice tank buddy!!!!!

  • Hi,do you know anything about tis filter that have tis 'sucking thing' that sucks in water and goes up above to the tank and get filtered and go back down into the tank and its a top filter the 'sucking thing' is in the tank...

  • best turtle tank setup i've seen so far!

  • Hey,

I built a canopy for my tank and it's working out quite well. My question for you is did you do anything to prevent light from shinning through the gaps of the doors? I've tried a few things such as a plastic border on the inside but I haven't found anything that works.

    Any thoughts?

  • @ganstagansta888 Yeah, when you cut your doors cut them on angle so when they shut the edges close tight, and it keeps doors from sagging inwards.

  • @grifloki Unfortunetaly I have already cut my doors and built the canopy.

  • bro....u didn't bought those rocks at pet stores, did u?

cuz I didn't found real rocks at the store xD

  • @MrDevil2000 landscape company, river bed rocks and the platforms are of slate rock, you can get anywhere

  • best turtle tank setup ive seen

  • My baby is in the same setup...I get so much grief for the 125 gallon tank.. but honestly... he needs the room..

  • wow... i love your tank!!1 my turtles are already 11 years old and i just keep changing their basin.. it's a huge basin now..but i really wish i could get an aquarium like yours.. :)
